I too am on the fence about Mendes. Although I liked both Skyfall & SPECTRE, I am ready for a new director. Craig stays, however.

    Back to on topic.

Here's a question. Would you rather Bond 25 come out in 2018 but with Mendes directing again or Bond 25 in 2019 with any director?

I am a no patients kind of guy so I say the former
    2018.

As long as Mendes doesn't return, then they can cast whoever as Bond and I'll be a happy man.

How many people here are actually in favor of Craig returning for Bond 25? I sometimes feel like I'm the only one, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not. SPECTRE brings closure to his era, let's move on
  • I'm not really against Craig returning, but I wouldn't mind someone new either. A change could be nice. I am vehemently against Mendes returning though. His pet composer alone is enough for me to say he shouldn't come back.
    +1

    + 1 more.

I have mixed feelings about Craig returning. He's been fantastic (for the most part) but I have absolutely no desire to see the stupid Blofeld/Madeleine story continue on into Bond 25, and I can't believe that they would just ignore it completely.

However, if Dan were to leave there's no telling how much I would like the next guy. Be careful what you wish for!

Besides, I believe the franchise is better off in the long run with the least amount of actors to have played Bond. It's an elite club as it stands now. When we start switching Bonds too often then perhaps the mystique starts to wear off a bit.

It is exciting to think that Dan could go on a long run to possibly match Roger. Until I think of Mendes and "Brofeld" returning.
  • Yes, the fewer Bonds the better. It has to happen over time—the changing of the guard—but once every 15 years or so sounds good to me. 35ish-50ish for the actor's age.

I'm split and see the pros and cons of both sides. An football (American) coach once said,' it's better to have a player leave a little too soon than a little too late. I don't know if that applies here but it's food for thought.
For me if Craig returning means Mendes and Newman then I'd rather not see him return. If it's a new team around him then maybe so, depending on the team. If they put the Casino Royale band back together, Craig+ Campbell+ Arnold in order to bookend his era, then I'm all for his return.

he should go till he's 57.
Or 58- one year older than Roger. Beat his age record and have stayed in the role 20 years.
    I doubt that will happen.

Craig has been bloody good, but no to Craig and Mendes.

He's done. His directors / writers have squeezed all they can from his interpretation.

The only way he can go is a bored 'middle finger' to everyone like Connery delivered for DAF and Pierce for DAD.

As things stand, Craig has a mixed bag of product. You don't wanna be remembered for a bad run. Just ask PB.

We'll get two films in that timeframe.

Or a spectacular one that will never be equaled in 2052 for the 90th anniversary.

Craig is the best thing to happen to the series since 1962. He must return.

I don't need or want Mendes, but he needs to deliver a film under 2:10. Contractually.

I definitely want Craig to return - the best Bond.
  • He's been a great Bond. I'd love another performance the quality of his first two films.

Well, chaps, now we've drifted in March, I think it's inevitable in two weeks time we'll get a definite answer. I just hope it won't be another bore of a word it would be when Barber or any of the responsible people behind the production drop an excuse and delay the film further.

What's the inevitability of mid March?

An MGM settlement. Gary Barber most likely to comment on Bond.

As much as I'd like to see Craig return, seeing Tom Hiddleston promoting Kong Skull Island you see very much THE perfect Bond in waiting. He is sooo right for the role, so I would actually prefer to see Hiddleston take over the role now. Also, he's so good at the promotional side of the job, whereas Craig always looks glum and bored in interviews he gives. If Craig is announced is back as Bond I'll be happy, mainly because we'll be getting another Bond movie (hurrah!) but if Hiddleston is announced as his replacement...I'll be ecstatic.

There is still no distributor for Bond 25

  • re: MGM....The company is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter and full-year financial results this month. Gary Barber usually conducts a conference call. It will probably be more like the third week of the month but I don't have the exact date.

It was during the conference call almost a year ago (fourth-quarter and full-year 2015 results) that Barber said Bond movies would come out on a 3- to 4-year cycle and that he was in "no hurry" to negotiate a Bond 25 distribution deal.

I feel the same, except about Turner instead of Hiddleston.

Hiddles would be okay but didn't blow me away on the nigh manager. Obvious solid choice tho.

Hiddles remains my #1 choice. Perfection imho. Sadly, I don't think it will happen. He will be asked about it a lot over the next little while as he promotes Kong, and probably needs to have his canned answers ready.

He just said he hasn't been approached for it.

So don't expect much in the way of news in March - you're not going to get any.
