Without permission, I am going to speak for @Shardlake (and if I crossed a line, he can spank me for it (another, adult-thread, will open at that point. Pics included)).
Reading the McQuarrie interview, he does contradict himself just a little. He talks about the change of tone, or actor, and transitional period where we assume he would bring something new that fits inside the character we know and love.
But, in contradiction, almost, he talks about Connery being the gold-standard ("but of course" he is), and how he did like Brozzer.
Why mention an era he will never be able emulate (Connery), or another era that no one is asking to go back to (Brosnan (apart from his solid fan-base on site))? You want to be a part of a transitional period for something different just to try and bring us back to... Connery?... Brosnan?...
Someone like me, and possibly Shardlake, can't speak of Connery and Brosnan in the same sentence. So, admittedly, the backs may be against the wall here. In one actor, we had the cool, natural suave of the 60s-- the Golden Era-- and the other, well... not the Golden Era... and one where the actor was more avatar than character...
In one interview this guy, McQuarrie, takes two steps forward (wanting to be involved in a 007 transitional period), but citing the past (two steps back, 'cause really, he will never be able to re-create the Connery era), and the recent past, that could, COULD influence his vision (Brosnan-Bond; to people like me, this was not fun at all; we've taken four steps back).
The elements of the interview could, COULD, be a warning to some that this guy is wishy-washy in the world of Bond.
As I said to one of our great members earlier this evening: if Craig's last film was between McQuarrie and Fukunaga? Hands down I go with Fukunaga.
If that’s the case then Connery’s Bond is vastly superior to the source material.
Same. Collectively though I believe Craig’s films are a lot stronger. But I think both are great Bonds.
One of the things that I like about fukunaga is that he didn't choose a favorite bond or
or film which makes him a better contender for bond 26. I highly doubt that EON Would choose him because he has already made a spy film he wanted to make.
I think by conceding he likes Craig as Bond, he is also taking a dig at him and his "slashing wrists" comments. At least, I saw that as the underlying message. DC seems miserable playing Bond and thus we have a miserable Bond.
I don't think either are true.
There are plenty of instances in which the DC Bond is very much indeed enjoying himself (in that perfect sort of arrogant way)...

With all due respect, I cannot fathom how you came to this conclusion; he is clearly about the character of Bond and the tone of the Craig era films , not how Daniel feels about playing the role.
There are no digs at Craig, not even implied.
Agreed. He’s talking about how each actor plays the character. You can see this when he talks about the way Brosnan played Bond: “He had these little moments, these little grace notes where he was really having fun with the character, that were quite surprising, I really enjoyed that.” Clearly he’s speaking only about each actor’s on-screen performance; not any off-the-cuff remarks they may have made outside of their films.
Unfortunately she's too young for Craig.
Heaven forbid someone gives some constructive criticism to the way things are handled... or mishandled.
Regardless, he's off the mark even in his interpretation. That's not exactly the Bond we have, as I've pointed out.
This isn’t a shot at Craig, even as his Bond has been written, he’s one of the best. There’s just a desire to , even if somewhat, return to the old ways.
Agree entirely. Anyone who says they like the Brosnan era sets alarm bells ringing for me. Having said that, he is never going to direct a Brosnan Bond film and he is a better director arguably (certainly of action) than any of the Brosnan era directors. So he would not be the worst choice. I don't see EON wanting MI's sloppy seconds though.
Precisely.
I'd argue Craig has 3/4 - I've always been a fan of QOS, and SP, for all its faults is still, for me, way better than TWINE or DAD. I think Brosnan is the man with 2/4 percentage - GE and TND being his best Bond films. If Bond 25 hits a bullseye, Craig will be 4/5 percentage - now that is good.
Agreed, with all due respect qos is one of the most underrated bond film to date in my opinion, so it's 4/5. A little off topic but I would also like to point out that mi films is 3/6 for me if people are comparing bond with mi
Awesome examples!
