I don’t think Boyle was a great loss.

I mean, do we really need more “edgy”?

A template Bond like the Glen films would be great.

EON shouldn’t fall into the trap of trying to hard to carve out new territory. At this point, a comfortable pair of socks will do. A film that doesn’t need to focus on Bond’s vulnerabilities or emotions.

    Seconded.

A comfortable pair of socks is indeed what Spectre was missing.

Far too low :( I think we all know we probably won't get a very "classic" Craig Bond film, so to speak - which isn't a totally bad thing, but I'd really enjoy a more no-nonsense, straightforward Bond film for Craig. Closest he got was QoS. I like how CR and SF handled the more emotional aspects, but SP was definitely a bit of a mess. Honestly, with the way most action movies are these days, it's hard to expect anything too much like a classic, straightforward Bond film again. There's always some sort of emotional hook or twist to them now.

Boyle could have delivered a masterpiece. Now it looks like we'll have to settle for whatever they can cobble together in 2020.

The important part is that Craig and Babs get enough "rest".

The advantage EON has over its AAA action adventure competitors is Fleming.

The producers don’t need to try too hard to replicate the emotional resonance of The Bourne Supremacy and technical excellence of Mission Impossible: Fallout.

All we need, and all we’ve ever needed, is Fleming’s character and the world he inhabits.
  • While I was looking forward to whatever the fresh idea Boyle was bringing to Bond and I lament his departure, I admit I would be very pleased with a more back-to-formula Bond film to close out the Craig era if they choose not to go with the Boyle/Hodge idea. They can still give Craig something meaty to chew on even if the film is mission-driven. I personally would be satisfied with a fresh villain, not a return of the Brofeld, but that's just IMO.

@peter, reality has it that some people act very much according to the clinical description of a narcissist, on these boards as well as outside the internet. It´s a pain in the bottom, but it would be wrong to let oneself be intimidated by such individuals. Although I admit sometimes it´s hard to ignore them completely ;-).

Really? I don't remember ever reading that anywhere.

I thought Mendes's main Bond reference was watching Live and Let Die as a kid.
  • The tweets are unverifiable nonsense.

MI6 have zero connection to Eon. It's a James Bond fan site. In fact, Eon/MGM didn't even allow MI6 to use pictures from the films for years. They did have a few scoops during the build up to Casino Royale. Though, so did CommanderBond.net back in those days.

However, since QOS through to Bond 25 they have very much had their fingers off the pulse.

I mean look at their frontpage:

    - Miss September feature (a tired feature they've been running for a decade)
    - A Young Bond short story from a few years ago is available in e-book
    - Dave Bautista would like to return

It doesn't exactly scream dynamic movie news trade.

    Thanks for that. Very reassuring.

At no point have we ever claimed to be in the know, or have any kind of association to Eon.
They (Eon) are fully aware of the work the guys here do, and how important it is to the Bond world, including the magazine, but no they don't share information with us about the scripts or the ongoing pre-production. And even if they did we wouldn't be able to publish them for everyone to see.

I'm trying to stay out of the rumour whirlwind as its all guess work and babble. BUT I think it's very fair to assume that the original Hodge script contained something more than the standard Bond template. It had (past tense?) something different and something that got EON excited.

I just hope at some point, this "big idea" will be shared with us fans so we can come to our own conclusions.

Boyle’s abrupt exit from Bond 25 gave Johnson and Bergman an opening to pursue Craig, if he was up for squeezing in a movie before returning to his 007 franchise. When Craig sparked to the script and signed on, a hot package came together, just in time for the Toronto market. Besides the Bond films, both Johnson and Bergman followed Craig’s career closely since his strong turns that included Road to Perdition, Munich, Layer Cake, Defiance and Logan Lucky. They’ve seen his stage turns, and Johnson has met Craig socially several times. It made for a quick and easy alliance on Knives Out.

“I have been a huge fan and always wanted to work with him and as I worked on the script, trying to get it right, Ram and I were wringing our hands over who could be the detective,” Johnson said. “Then, serendipitously, we heard Daniel might have a small window, and it worked out. He’s an actor of extraordinary range, and we are looking forward to the fun of finding that modern detective, and collaborating with Daniel on creating a new Poirot.”

Trying to read between the lines, perhaps B Broccoli has told Craig there will be a delay so you're free to take on this film? If Bond 25 is to start shooting in December, this means a four weeks or so shooting schedule for Knives Out? Seems short.
    Sharkbait wrote:

But there's a small chance he could be 'tired' after filming this movie.

Yeah, it does seem a bit odd why he'd want to make another movie so close to Bond 25. Based on prior history and his prior comments he likes to have time to prepare for the role. Perhaps Knives Out won't have any large action scenes but this 'window' doesn't sound like ideal preparation for Bond. Some action movies require weeks or even months of rehearsal for fight scenes. It's not uncommon for actors to say they had to prepare for an action role. I think Dalton went from shooting Brenda Starr to shooting The Living Daylights. He didn't have any time to prepare for the role of Bond.

I wouldn’t doubt that. But I used to be in contact a fair bit with James Page during the CR process and he was the first to admit that they didn’t have a huge amount of insight.

In fact, I recall him telling me that MI6 would have the scoop the day before the press release of Bond #6, however that news eventually leaked through the British tabloids and Variety.

Also, I think @NicNac has confirmed the tweets are false as he states that MI6 wouldn’t reveal unverified info from sources (if it had any). However, these tweets are exactly that.

I think MI6 is a terrific site and you won’t find a more comprehensive insight into each Bond production from DAD onwards. But it isn’t a trade publication. It’s essentially a very good library and archive of Bond news. I don’t expect it to be anything else.

    Still don't buy it.

Anyone can send a DM. Cashley had people running rings for months with anonymous tweets. These tweets are in the same vein.

If MI6 had sources and could stand by them, why not publish an article? They did so with the Russian casting call? This is unsubstantiated nonsense. Why are they using Twitter? This is fake.

If they had enough faith in their sources, they should run an article. Heck, they should explain why exactly Boyle left and who will replace him. Opposed to run meek tweets about Boyle's "idea". There is zero journalistic integrity to these tweets, especially at a time where the fanbase is so volatile.

Telling people you have "sources" and a "20 year record" doesn't lend weight to every claim you make.

Are we to assume from this last tweet that the element which caused Boyle/Hodge to exit is the one which the site thinks is impressive and game changing? That's how I read this anyway. They seem to be suggesting that this element is no longer in.
