What wouldn't be encouraging to me is how the era ended. Honestly, I like SP's game changer ending, but it's not something you go out on. But I've said my piece on this before, so no need to go there.

It'll be interesting when Bond #7 is cast, because EON might not have Campbell on board to do his magic for the third time.

I criticised Mendes a lot for SF.
After SP I know it wasn't his fault. Even the greatest director can't save a movie like SF with such a script.

I was wrong about Mendes and why not have him return to direct the first of a new Bond actor.
I think that would work marvelously.

Listening to the interviews around the time of SP's release, I sort of got the impression that Mendes could be persuaded to return if Craig came back. They didn't say that explicitly, but that's how I interpreted some of the vague comments they both made.

Perhaps it is an all or nothing proposition with these two going forward, and that would be fitting, because outside of Kinnear, the entire crew is now a Mendes invention. So if Craig's back, it would make sense for Mendes to come back, rather than a new director.

    They should keep Mendes indefinitely.
    And why not.

    Just imagine this:
Martin Campbell had directed GE, TND, TWINE and DAD before directing CR and then QOS as his last.

Pierce Brosnan would undoubtably rank No 2 after Connery together with Craig.

TND and TWINE would be in anybody's Top 10. Even DAD would probably be in the upper half of the rankings.
QOS would undoubtably be more popular than SF and SP together.

    Oh sweet imagination ;;)

I've heard from a friend that Martin Campbell has a liking to introduce a new Bond, and would only do a film introducing a new actor in the role. Perhaps when Craig steps down, we could have Campbell on board. Both GoldenEye and Casino Royale are successful films in every way regarding critically and commercially. Another Campbell Bond boat would definitely be a satisfactory, I say.

    not necessarily...

Casino Royale and Quantum were brilliant yet sadly I feel the last two films the Craig era lost it's way kind of My hope is with a new director if Craig returns Bond 25 will have him finding his way and having a high note film again.

    Why was she livid?

Can't remember the exact reason as the emails were brief and not detailed about the issues, but she was clearly angry with both Logan and Mendes. I'd have to go back and do a search to isolate those emails on Wikileaks to get more detail, but there was a lot of Sony back and forth in the emails in the time segment I read that related to unhappiness with the script's third act. The reason for her anger, and I'm guessing here based on context, appears to be that she felt they were badly dragging their heals on getting the script fixed. The text in the emails did not imply she was slightly upset etc., the text noted clearly that she was angry. Pulling in P & W was obviously related to that. Another poster may be able to add to this.

The best thing for a fifth Bond movie with Craig would be down-to-earth, gritty action movie with hard and brutal fights (à la John Wick), but with all the beloved Bond traits, that QOS so lacked.

Maybe a mix between FYEO and QOS, directed and edited by capable artists.

No!!!! I've got an even better PTS we have a faceless character breaking into Belmarsh to get Blofeld out. After a life or death escape from the guard and a jaw dropping stunt or two. Blofeld who has been manhandled and had a black sack over his head is thrown into the back of a van and his saviour is none other than Bond!

Blofeld is lost for words and Bond says something witty and cryptic. Cue title sequence!

If Mendes is back, you can imagine something not cryptic at all, like, well, "Where is my son ?" :)

Irma Bunt might as well be Blofeld's daughter, who wants to "punish" her uncle-figure (Bond) for trying to dethrone her father, and how the story was influenced by the Shakespearean play, Hamlet.

    :))

Watching the first two episodes of The Night Manager convinces me that Bier would be an excellent choice. Of course she sympathises with her female characters, and makes them three dimensional, but she also makes Tom Hiddleston far more attractive than he really is, and more crucially she makes Hugh Laurie one of the most evil and dangerous villains I can remember seeing on TV, even though it struck me that in 2 hours he didn't actually commit one violent act. It was all in his eyes.

A female director would also bring out Bond's sex appeal, because she would be seeing it from a woman's point of view.

    Makes sense to me.

Naomie Harris: 'Daniel Craig deserves more respect as James Bond'

Actress Naomie Harris wishes critics would give Daniel Craig more credit for "reinventing" the role of James Bond.

The British beauty has starred alongside the 47-year-old in two 007 movies, including last year's (15) smash hit Spectre, and while it's believed the movie will be Daniel's last outing as the superspy, Naomie thinks it's disrespectful to be discussing his successor before a final decision has been made.

"I feel it's premature, because I feel as though Daniel doesn't get the sort of respect and admiration he deserves," she told Elle.com. "He completely reinvented that role of Bond, and he has made it the most successful Bond of all time. People are turning out in droves to see him as Bond.

"So I think we should celebrate the fact that we have an amazing Bond and no one knows whether Daniel's going to come back or not."

i kind of agree with Naomi on this...

but i feel like that is the sign of the times - we live our daily lives at such break speed nowadays, that we really never take time to stop and smell the roses - we are always looking 10 steps ahead in a lot of cases, instead focusing (and enjoying) the hear and now.... undoubtedly it will happen to Bond #7 when he cast... the collective mass will more or less go "oh he's James Bond now?... ok... now lets talk about who will be Bond #8."

Episode 1 of The Night Manager I really enjoyed. Tom Hiddleston showed he could do sauve and smooth so I thought his Bond would be closer to Roger Moore, but last night Episode 2 kicked into another gear and showed Hiddleston could do dark and violent too. Very interesting. I could actually see the director of Night Manager, Suzanne Bier, and most of its wonderful cast migrating to Bond. Hugh Laurie and Tom Hollander would both be amazing Bond villains. I hope EON are watching this show.

I think Tom Hiddleston, with his hair line, looks very close to the famous
cartoon drawing of how Fleming imagined Bond.

like I said when talking about a new bond I was a Hardy fan for years but I am slowly moving to Hiddleston side of things.

Hiddle is my guy for the role. Which means it probably won't happen sadly. Unlike some, I would prefer a suave pick for the next 007, to mix it up a bit.

I think he's my first choice as well. But I don't want to think about Dan's successor until we're sure he is done with the role.

Loved Dan, but damn, Hiddles is so so freakin' perfect it would be a travesty if he was not picked. Sigh. Think I've got a serious man crush.

Uncanny. Just compared Hiddles to that sketch. He IS Bond.

If they wait for another Craig then the very earliest they'll get a debut film out is around five years from now, being generous. Honestly, and as much as it pains me to say it, I'd switch up. I'd sort the distribution going forward and lock in Hiddleston for an intial three picture deal. They could get two out before he hits forty, on a two-three year cycle. I feel like SP does work as the conclusion of an arc, although I know others dont, and to me this feels like the next logical step given the circumstances.

Imo, he lacks warmth. He has a bit of that cold Fish feeling for me.

But yeah, since I want Daniel to quit, why not?

Looks like many are on board the Hiddle train, if reluctantly.

Let's see what this month brings. I'm hoping for an announcement one way or another.

Much as I would like this too, I think this is the most unlikely scenario. They have gone in one direction with the character, and if Craig is back, that is the direction they will continue with imho. A directional change is only likely (again imho) with a new actor.
