Wasn't much for the first one so not sure I'll bother with the sequel.

What was your issues with it?

I thought the acting and directing were good, and I liked the darkness of it, but I didn't like the story and I thought the film overall was boring.

Fincher made it more about Lisbeth and Mikael than the mystery unfortunately. And some big things were changed about it from the text. If you want the full story, read the book.

I never expected it to be in theaters in 13 anyway and very glad, they seem to really move ahead with it, but not happy with Finchers attitude. He is dealing with this like a child, that is not sure, whether or not it wants to play with a toy again. He has had enought ime to make up his mind and should just pass now and giuve another director, who will hopefully be excited about the prospect of bringing the next two on the big screen, a chance. He just delays the whole thing. Noit a professional attitude at all.

I don't feel that way about Fincher at all, and never have. We don't know the story, so speculating about what is going on and what the main players are doing isn't a wise move. David has his own projects going on, and I wouldn't just sit around waiting on the screenplay to finish. He is doing the smart thing, and probably setting up some new deals to be director with coming films, so that if this one falls through or delayed further he isn't caught with his pants down.

Can't aggree - some sommittment is just necessary at some point. He is playing hard to get and obviously doesn'*t have the love for the project anymore. So - why not leave?

Release it in the 2th week Of January 2015 in a wide release.

In The Netherlands (3th week of January 2012) the movie did much better then i expect for this Art House movie. 2,5 million that's a lot. It is more then X-first Class in 2011 and almoost double what Hugo deliever this year. I think one week earlier is the best thing to do. The movie deliever 726.000 in the first week, then it deliever 712.000), Then 500.000 after that one and after 4 weeks (24 days to be exact) it have 2 million. After that it go fast to 200.000 100.000 or less. This mean that after 5 weeks (1 month to be exact) the movie have his time. The movie be verywell promoted but because there delay the movie for a week it lost some money it can have delieverd between 12 January and 18 January.

Part 3 should be released in January 2016. At the same time there should do a pres conferance of Bond 25 for second week of December 2016 release.

Mabey there should ask David Cronenberg, Bennett Miller or Douglas McGrath. Douglas McGrath work earlier with Daniel Craig on Infamous.

For whatever reason, I would like danny Boyle or Kathryn Bigelow...would be interesting to see a womans take on Lisbeth..

For the thelivingroyale and others who didn't care much for the plot or movie in general: the next 2 books are better and offer a lot more ciinematically. Should be great! Get the right director and onward.

I guess this might mean he's considering TGWPWF. Like I said before I loved TGWTDT so, although Fincher's way of working (i.e. the expensive way) has it's problems but I think he really understood the characters and that is priceless! This means I would be glad if he came back to direct at least one of the sequels but I would prefer that he would somewhat "contain" himself like not filming for almost one whole year, paint all the buildings in a swedish town, film, and then revert them to the original colours to film again, etc.

Seriously I really hope Fincher does direct the next 2, sorry won't hear a bad word said against him he's easily one of the best directors alive, I don't think he's made a bad film yet, some better than others, Benji Button and Panic Room are his low points for me.

I though his TGWDT was the better film, Rapace was marginally a better performance as LS but Mara nailed the character in the book and Craig gave one of his strongest performances of his career.

Fincher elevated the pulpy source material to higher level, if he didn't follow the text to the letter then it is to the strength of the film. I've read all three books and I think he cut out all the right things and his condensing of characters and the ending made more sense.

The directing, the acting the cinematography, the script and the score are top notch and Bigelow & Boyle aren't masters of this kind of thing he is, seriously everyone's still playing catch up since Se7en when it comes to serial killer films, one of the reason that he stepped back from that element of TGWDT and concentrated on the relationship with Salander & Blomvist and to me that was far more compelling a prospect than the usual thriller ten plate.

Thanks for the shout out, @Samuel001. I'd love to join this topic, but sadly, I still haven't finished this novel. I'm getting close, though!

From an interview with David Fincher:

What are you working on now?

Well, trying to figure out a sequel to Dragon Tattoo. We’ve got to be able to make it our own thing.

I'm convinced TGWDT is the best movie since Casino Royale so I'm crossing my fingers for a sequel directed by Fincher.

Just having watched TGWTDT for the 3rd time, I can't but wait for the sequels directed preferably by Fincher.

Even more beautiful news; this is icing on the cake. So we had Craig and Mara confirmed from the start, rumors that the film wasn't going to happen, the news I posted a few days ago confirming the script is still in the works, and now Fincher seems almost confirmed to do this.

Yes, sounds slightly better then anything we have read so far. Thanks for posting.

Fincher's take on TGWTDT was so entertaining and unique, the next two films just wouldn't be the same if someone else took over as director. Bring back the dark edginess for TGWPWF, Fincher, and then we'll start hoping for TGWKTHN, even though I've been led to believe that both of those should be shot back-to-back. Either way, they could end 'Fire' with a cliffhanger and start 'Hornet's Nest' later on, but it would save more money if they went with the former approach.

I think, it was planned from the beginning to shoot them back to back, which makes sense. Also then they could be released within two years. Put them into the fall season instead of X-mas, which was a really bad idea and happened only IMO, because Fincher wasn't ready earlier and they wanted to be ready early enough to be in the Oscar race.

What solidifies this news is that Fincher has recently left the Cleopatra remake. :)
I can't imagine Fincher doing Cleo - it was take ages ;) and the buudget would rocket skyhigh.

Brings me to a question - who of you finds Angeina Jolie still attractive? There are many women, I really find beautiful, but she has become so surreal...and dunno - not really nice to look at anymore. Almost unhuman.

Having only watched Tomb Raider a few days ago, I find her better looking in those days personally.

I have never really found Jolie attractive. In the Tourist, I thought that she didn't even look real. Same for her acting, i've never thought much of it.

She never did it for me, I was always more taken by Uma Thurman, although I can't explain why.

Recently though I have thought Jolie quite beautiful. I don't know where or when my opinion changed.

Yes, this is my impression exactly. Just didn't find the right words. Unhuman sounds stupid and is probably not even a word.

Inhuman was probably the word you were looking for.

I'm happy Fincher appears to be working on the sequels :-bd He understood the characters, that is something very important.
I do hope the films are not released around Christmas. I know many people who didn't watch such a film in this season. The fact that some people kept saying it was a remake and not an adaptation of the book didn't help either. The film was one of the best (if not the best) I saw last year. I followed the whole production, with that amazing blog and the treasure hunt, and I'm looking forward to see the wheels turning again.

He was campaigning and supporting Mara from the start. It would be a shame to leave it all now. I hope Fincher sticks with it and does the next two. I would be incredibly ecstatic.
