    He was embarrassed, of course, but I don't think his lack of detailed knowledge on the Bond films is something to hold against him. It's not something that is necessarily required, or even desirable, to be able to play Bond. In fact, I suspect it's not uncommon that audiences have more adoration or interest in a piece of popular art than those who participated in making it. I wouldn't go in expecting of the Bond actors to be more than casually acquainted with the films, novels, etc.

    I remember Pierce speaking highly of Tim's Bond saying Dalton made some brave character choices by following Fleming. He also mentioned those films had become somewhat wobbly, referring to the style and tone -not Tim.

    The interview starts more than half way in. If you go back a bit in that clip there's more, including a bit of a testy exchange at 4:50 or so between the Brozz and the interviewer, who asks him to say the "B, JB" line and Pierce refuses. There's more of Famke and a bit of Izabella too.

    Would have been great fun to see Pierce as an older Bond, just like Connery in NSNA.

    Very true. Brosnan always looked better in a suit than Craig.

    Great read. Thanks for this. They were up against it with that film, and they pulled it off. Stylish to a fault, even if on an obviously meagre budget.

    I'm happy that Martin Campbell did his two movies, and called it quits. It would have made us think less of him. He's a rare person in the world of James Bond (movies, books, video games), that actually left on higher note then he started.

    Damn, Seraphim Falls was pretty great. Even the slightly controversial ending I enjoyed. Must watch it again.

    Great read. Thanks for that. Amazing really, with a comparatively small budget, what EON achieved. Goldeneye is a class film, from start to finish.

    I am an old time Bond fan, and had seen every entry at least 5 times when I went to the cinema to see GE. I was blown away. Such a shame Pierce's films suffered from diminishing returns, creatively at least.

    One thing that spoiled Goldeneye at the pictures, for me, was the lack of Dalton after two films. I loved Dalton and at the time, this fresh-faced chap felt like an imposter. Now I view it different and for the most part I really like the Brozza run (and actually prefer him as Bond to Craig). But back then, there was a feeling that EON had 'gone safe' and opted for a generic Moore/Connery vanilla Bond, over the edgier Dalton.

    That is very refreshing to hear @Roadphill especially around here. And i agree, Brosnans films suffered in parts from diminishing returns, even though there is still much to enjoy in them, like his performance in DAD (arguably his best).
    In any case GE remains a bona fide classic to me.
