Not letting him direct and write Bond 26 is such an insane notion that this option is not even worth considering. I am often trolling in this forum, but this time I'm 100% serious.

I'd suspect that if B25 goes well and if it proves to be Craig's last, the first choice to direct B26 will be...Cary Fukunaga.

Cary may well want to only do one Bond film. I'm open for him doing more than one, of course, if Bond 25 is great. Certainly it is not a given that he would even want to.

That's what I think, too. It's not whether B25 is good or not, but whether he gave it his all and don't feel like bringing anything new to the table after it. Perhaps, like Mendes, he'll be giving his all in one film, as he doesn't seem like a journeyman director.

Understanding Christopher Nolan's thinking is the key to figuring out who will play Bond next.

It’ll be someone who is between 25-30 right now. The media is rolling with people who are 35-50 which is stupid considering Craig’s last film comes out in 2020. Next film after that will most likely be 3-5 years after. So anyone the media picks will be 40-57 lmao.

They are so dumb they don’t realize that they don’t cast guys who are already in the last Bond film age. They cast guys who are in their mid to late 30s and they do 3+ films typically..
The media aren´t dumb to use stuff they know will be read. The Readers are possibly in another category...

Right - so Bond 26 will just be another Michael Mann rip off. Easy.

I have never seen any of Cary’s films/tv shows, does he have a certain style? I am kinda worried considering they didn’t go with a director who has a ton of films under his belt. Honestly it sounds like Boyle just wanted an anti Trump/Russia film. It sounded so lame and anti climatic. Like WTF Boyle!!

I expected so much more. We need a Bond film not an action cash grab come on. I could be wrong but I feel like Craig’s last film will feel like another Quantum movie. He will try and bring in another mysterious organization, it’ll be fast paced, lots of action, not enough plot development.

I actually really like Quantum but I felt like after Casino Royale it was so small of a movie. Same with SF and SP. I don’t know how they spent the money they did. Every Bond film has a good flow to it and the stories are amazing but Craig’s films have all felt lackluster to me. Minus CR.. My actual Craig ranking is

    1) Casino Royale
    2) Spectre
    3) Quantum
    4) Skyfall

Skyfall didn’t feel like a Bond film to me. The ending, playing home alone on the abandoned pinewood set wasn’t climatic enough for me. I do love the courtroom shootout, the opening is great, the flow is something rare with Craig’s films it almost felt like casino royale to me. I just didn’t like the whole bond being washed up story line. James Bond doesn’t get washed up.

He’s supposed to handle his own against John Wick, Bourne and Ethan Hunt. He’s supposed to be the best.

James Bond doesn’t get washed up.

He’s supposed to handle his own against John Wick, Bourne and Ethan Hunt. He’s supposed to be the best.

But that's the whole point of SF, isn't it? A "what if" 007's age and place in a world that's largely left him behind were addressed directly, both as the driving theme of the film and in the literal narrative. And while Bond "loses" in the sense that M dies, he "wins" in that by the end, he's reinvented, reinvigorated, and ready to press on in an emotionally adapted way. A hopeful message -- maybe the the most hopeful you can have.

Not to make this a Skyfall thread, but knowing they're willing to take a run at that kind of bold choice gives me high hopes for Bond 25. I doubt we'd see that exact angle repeated again, but something similarly disrupting and thought-provoking powering B25 thematically would be welcome.

Just brainstorming, based on rumors/speculation we've already heard:

-Bond pulled out of retirement, a meditation on whether you can ever truly go back to your glory days...

-Bond working with a 'protege'-type figure, looking at the dynamic of passing a torch between eras and whether a man like Bond even can leave a legacy...

-Bond caught in a FRWL-inspired spy web, forcing us to ask if the enemies we think we've killed are ever really dead...

-2 hours of James Bond literally just trying to get through one normal Christmas dinner with Madeleine's extended family in their Jamaican home, examining whether or not domestic existence is even conceivable for someone who's lived on the leading edge of espionage (and presumably a torture far worse than anything Ernst Blofeld could conjure...)

I love Skyfall, always have. It was a lovely film, with the right Bond actor for that story. But Bond 25 will be unlike the previous films. I doubt it will be full of angst or tie in closely (or major screen time devoted) to previous Bond films. It will connect, but I don't think the story will be so locked into the past films. I do think it will have quite serious moments because this Bond actor can carry that more than any other and this director can do drama and suspense very well indeed.

The thing I trust most about it is the director and that he will have a sure hand on the script. Cary is a good storyteller and really has a great eye for putting things across visually. I think he respects the Bond franchise, the foundation of Bond, but naturally wants to put his own stamp on this, to do his own storytelling of this character James Bond. But I also feel he can keep things reined in - not go overboard in any direction.

So where we find Bond in this film, and whatever arc he goes through in this particular story, is intriguing. I'm quite optimistic about Bond 25. I don't even care to speculate too far on what the story may be. It's nice for me, for once, not to be worried.

Agree. I'm feeling confident, with CJF at the helm, that we're in for a memorable and impactful Bond experience.

    You heard it here first..

Mind control.. I think we all remember the plot of 007 being mind controlled to kill M. That would be interesting and right up CJF’s alley.

That would be TMWTGG book opening finally used which would have been grand in Skyfall after being killed.

Secretly directed by Danny Boyle, secretly written by John Logan.

if the next one is in the vein of QOS, then they should have just rebooted. After a 5 year gap they need to bring something akin to CR or at the least GE. anything less will be deemed disappointing, This is probably what Boyles film was turning out to be,

Could work now as well. Even more so. Better than that is M assigning Bond with an impossible solo suicide mission, say in Japan, in order to prove himself valid again. Get him swimming with barracudas, crossing the garden of death and all. What a film that would be, eh?

I want a beautifully filmed slow start that builds atmosphere and tension. Perhaps half an hour at least without a shot fired.

The "prove himself valid again" part makes me want to throw up, but the rest sounds great. Everybody and their mother wants to see James Bond. He doesn´t f***ng Need to prove himself valid. A Bond film shouldn´t make me think on sins, but on golden days.

Valid in the sense that he isn't brainwashed anymore, not like SF valid. I too don't like the "Bond having to prove himself" angle that's been (ab)used in the last films.

In fact, M sends him to that suicide mission because he knows he's actually the only one who can do it.

There, fix it for ya. Cheers.
