I was really hoping there was some weight to the rumours of Pierce Brosnan as Alfred.

Joker now stands at $984 million world wide. It should become the 44th film to cross the $1 billion milestone by this coming Friday.
  • Wow! I've been busy so I haven't actually had the chance to see Joker yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. I might just buy it on blu ray straight away. I'm glad a movie like this is doing so well at the box office!

And I told you all that Joker is no blockbuster. What a loser I am.

You should hide in shame and never leave the house again. Also, change your name, get an extreme makeover and--look, just basically change your entire identity. Because wherever you are, @boldfinger, people will know that you were the one who said this wasn't a blockbuster.

Looks like the comic book film genre isn't showing any signs of ending soon.

I think we should move these to the Batman thread now, but he's some news regardless.

I think if Batgirl appeared it would be worth it. It's time to see the character on screen again.

I already see the busdriver closing the door in front of me, because I was the one who said Joker is not a blockbuster. And everybody inside the bus staring at me with eyes as big as saucers, pointing at me and talking about me, because I was the .... I think it´s time Doctor Sleep came to my town already.

Fantastic news :) Love these confirmation tweets that Reeves gives us. Great way to get people hyped. I think we're definitely in for something special. A Batman script that's managed to get this caliber of actor/actress, can this fail at this point? Haha :D
  • Reeves is certainly assembling a great cast!

When I went to that link, I found another link on collider´s page where Pattinson speaks about his Batman voice. He does so with an intriguingly high and soft voice, that makes me really curious how he´s going to sound as Batman. I´m sure he will pull something off, but I wonder what.

I'm truly pleased for Joker. It shows that > 1 billion dollars isn't just for CGI heavy actioners, happy-family-feel-good superhero films or Disney animated stuff. A quiet, delicate, offensive (to some) experiment like this can have the desired effect too. Plus, it may encourage DC/WB to try more of these "elseworlds" things, besides their JLA output.

Do we have any information on the budget of Joker? I would assume it was way below films like Batman or Justice League, so they must make a fortune with this.

With a budget of $55 million, it is the lowest-budget film to be in the $1 billion club, a record previously held by Minions ($74 million budget), or Jurassic Park when unadjusted ($63 million budget in 1993).

1 Billion, on a 55 million budget, an R Rating and not being screened in China.
    That's insane lol
Prepare for a ton of copycats.

In a perfect world, the film would also clean up at the Oscars (it has that potential imho) but i guess after this wave of success and the controversy, they will give it some token oscar for makeup at best.

In all seriousness, I would like to see a similar R rated character study on Lex Luthor. A rich billionaire megalomaniac's plan to become president of the United States. Make it in a style similar to 'House of Cards', and get Bryan Cranston as Luthor.

Not sure if they get Cranston, but the rest sounds entirely feasible after Joker´s success.
