The Skyfall DVD/Blu Ray-Out now!

edited February 2013 in Skyfall Posts: 1,407
I know that Skyfall is still a long way from release, but I am still starting to think of the eventual DVD/Blu Ray of the film. One thing I hated about Sony's part in the last two films were the two mediocre DVD releases of the films. CR eventually did get a really cool 3 disc DVD but the original 2 disc release and the 2 disc QoS DVD was pretty lacking in terms of features. Also given that this is Bond's 50th, what do you think should be included on this DVD when it is released?

I would like

-A great in depth documentery with lots of good interviews
-The return of the MI6 triva from the DAD dvd
-Deleted Scenes
-Commentary from Mendes/Craig/Wilson&Babs
-And some sort of great "50 years of Bond" feature

No that will be on blue-ray. DVD will have commentary, trailer and a music video.

    - Making Of Documentary... anyone who has seen Rob Zombie's documentary during the production of Halloween knows what I am talking about - it's almost better than the film itself lol... it's over 5 hrs long, and went through almost every phase of film production.. from casting, to premiere... i would love the same thing for Skyfall.

    - MI6 Trivia - would be fun to have, considering that this is now 50 years, Golden Anniversary..

    - Deleted Scenes - obviously

    - Gag Reel - i would love to see a moment where Craig is trying to capture an intense moment, and loses it... gag reels are a lot of fun.

    - Commentary ... 2 separate ones... one featuring Craig, and 2 other actresses or actors... and then with Mendes and the producers.

    - Music video

    - Trailer / TV Spots

    - Scoring The Film (behind the scenes) - whether it be Arnold, Newman, or whoever else.. i would like to see a behind the scenes section of scoring the film.. doesn't need to be long or crazy..

    - The Golden Franchise - a segment celebrating 50 years of Bond on film.. would like to see interviews with all previous Bond actors, some of the actors and actresses, and/or directors that are still with us... kind of like the James Bond Story documentary.

Wow, we are taking an impressive peek into the future here. ;;)

Not sure I will have made the shift to BR by then so I kinda hope the features will be on the DVD as well.
  • Not to mention DTS Surround Sound. Both Sony DVD releases of 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum Of Solace' did not have DTS Surround Sound.

-Pop up facts on screen about the making of Skyfall.
-Interviewers with past Bonds, Bond girls, and those apart of the films interviewed and asked about what the future holds for Bond.
-Info on what the script would have been like before the MGM debacle and rewrites.
-A nice montage celebrating Bond with really moving music playing.
-Interactive trivia game spanning 50 years of James Bond.

That's all I can think of for now.

Sony will give us yet another lame release no doubt. I really hope for once, they don't, and give us one worthy of the 50th.

Indeed. Macnee's narration in the older documentaries is splendid. The best narrator in Bond documentaries ever.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that, as @Samuel001 said, Sony will give us a terrible first release. I hope I'm wrong.

    Isolated score.

More Bond Blu-rays/DVDs should have that.

    ---

The Iron Man 2 - 3 disc BD/DVD is close what i like to see and be on my wishlist, but that 3 disc is 2 disc SE BD + dvd what made it impossible to watch the bonus material without a BD player. If you make 2 disc dvd SE + BD everbody be happy. Another example is LOTR, Newline and Warner have the movies on BD and the Bonus material be DVD's. You can play Dvd's on a BD player but not the other way around. On this way everbody can watch the movie, bonus material. It be cheaper to release the bonus material on a dvd.

Those days start prices for populair 2 disc SE be € 15,99-17,99 (If you are lucky € 12,99-14,99), i think there can ask that money in 2013 if it been atleast 3 disc. It be 10 years later then the Die Another Day SE who begins with start prices of € 19,99 or € 24,99 but in 2003 this be mabey normal prices but not in those days. For Die Another Day i pay € 14,99.

How longer it take from the release of the movie how less i whant to pay. Also it should not be limited avaible. I don't have the 3 disc CE of CR yet because it be a difcult one to find from the start and after a whyle this going worse. First i found mabey 2 copy's in bad shape for to much money (19,99). At the moment i expect a price fall (€ 8,33/€ 9,99) with more copy's and where i have waited one there be gone. Then i found once a better one but those ask € 19,99.

In the mean time there stunt so much with the first release ( The gap between the 3 disc be to high) who i don't whant and the movie already been give 3 times on tv. If i found one now i don't whant pay more then € 8,00 for a seald version because the 2 disc CE is not more worth then € 2,99. In other words i don't whant pay more then € 5,00 for disc 3, the booklet and the package. From the start i always thaught this should have been the first release. If iam intrest enough. Also i keep in mind there mess with the movie audiotrack on the new release (There changed it from 448 to 384) and i have heard disc 3 not have a Dutch subtitle option. Almost 5 years have past since the first release in March 2007 and Bond 23 wil release next year. Then we also have troubles around the release of QOS who stil must get a better release then the 1 disc release in 2009. QOS have been twice on tv in the mean time. First in March 2010 and this January. Both CR/QOS i have seen 3 times, i not watch the third view of CR. I expect another view of both movies wil be in 2012.

    ^THIS.

But it will never happen. Unless its a direct follow up. And I mean like DIRECT, as in months away. Which it wont be.

I know that's pushing it, but we all have our dreams... plus they don't have to know the plot of Bond 24 to give their thoughts on the future of the franchise.

I also find it intriguing that the BBCs Top Gear Bond Special is not on Iplayer which suggests that either the beeb are planning to release it on DVD or hope, hope maybe EON have it for the SF extras.

I'd really like some effort to be made with extras on SF as regards the 50th but given the shoddiness of the bluray box set I'm fairly confident it will be initially a rush job like QOS but then down the line because its a much bigger success we will be allowed to pay again for a collectors edition like for CR. After all why give the fans a good release from the start when you can cynically double dip them?

Yeah that's extremely likely when they could release it separately and get those who haven't illegally downloaded it in protest at how it was handled to pay twice.

Most programmes are only available on iplayer for one week after the last broadcast, so I suspect that's the reason it's no longer on there.

However, I reckon the BBC will eventually release it on DVD - maybe just before Christmas - given the massive amount of publicity all things Bondian have received this year.

I'd say with about 99% certainty that you are right about this. They know people would buy both already. And there will be feature differences between regular DVD and Blu-Ray releases, and of course they'll hold back things for future re-releases. My only hope is that they will do something extra nice for the 50th, but business is business and I am not holding my breath. What will piss me off royal though is if future deleted scenes are limited to Blu-Ray.

It's just a guess. Going by the last two DVD releases, we should be happy enough just getting the film. :(

Indeed. When compared to the 19 first "Ultimate Editions" (the special edition of DAD featured more things than the Ultimate Edition, curiously), the last two releases have been very lacking in the bonus department.
