I hope it's Soderbergh because it means we don't have a 3rd Mendes movie.

Since Spectre, my anticipation for Bond 25 has dropped considerably. P&W returning doesn't really concern me but it doesn't really inspire hope either. What would really put me into a deep depression though is if Mendes returned.

Soderbergh wrote a few paragraphs where he said he liked OHMSS. I respect the guy, but let's not crown him king of the fandom just yet.

He also has an autographed picture of Lazenby as Bond in his house. Does he need any more credentials? ;)

No one's crowning Soderbergh king of anything, but this is an excerpt from the beginning of his discourse:

For me there’s no question that cinematically ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE is the best Bond film and the only one worth watching repeatedly for reasons other than pure entertainment (certainly it’s the only Bond film I look at and think: I’m stealing that shit).

I wouldn't mind seeing that mentality in a future Bond director. But again, I don't know that Soderbergh really is the man for the job.

I don't think his style really fits Bond, and I have no interest in seeing it. He's a bit too much Casino Royale '67 and a lot less From Russia with Love.

If I had a gun to my head, and was told the next Bond director could be Mendes or Soderbergh, I'd go with Steven.

An interesting choice. The more theatrical amongst us would simply say, "Shoot."

I find Craig is aging quite well. He looks incredibly handsome in this picture.

I'm watching the wrong Soderbergh films I guess, haha. He did the Oceans, right? I think I've seen parts of the first two a long time ago. I think I'm more familiar with his guérilla documentary-style films, which feel like an odd fit for Bond for me.

He's a good director, he's just a very specific one and I don't know how his style would translate. People see the Oceans films and think, "He shot that casino well, he'd be perfect for Bond." His tendency for including quirky, wacky characters in his films is what would worry me, and his visual style is pretty removed from the eloquent and glamorous kind I'd like to see used for Bond.

And amazingly enough, he still manages to dodge the question.

What do we make of this bit:

That success story is surely among the reasons Omega would love for Craig to continue as Ian Fleming’s iconic secret agent. At the dinner that followed the Q&A session, Aeschlimann hinted at the idea when he raised his wineglass to toast his special guest. “You’ve been a wonderful ambassador,” he told Craig. “I know I’m not alone in saying that we are hoping it’s you.”

I'm trying to figure out why he said, "we are hoping it's you." If he meant, we hope it's you in the next film, it's a strange way to phrase it.

    Dan looks great though, tip-top.

Yeah but he's got that skyfall style stubble which makes him look terrible, facial hair looks good with certain people but not always with everybody

He wouldn't be wearing it in the movie, it'd be fine.

It does, in general, but Bond is supposed to be clean shaven.

Your right though he does look good- could see him doing 2 more films if they could actually release them and not wait 4 years for one

Granted. But he's still a talented director who doesn't need a bloated budget to tell the stories he wants to tell.

You mean from the same Eon that denied John Logan had been hired to write Bond 24? Just days before MGM announced it?

The same Eon that denied that Ben Whishaw was playing Q?

  • Just to be clear, there is no rumor that Soderbergh is even in the picture to direct Bond 25. It's banter on this thread.

Craig looks way better in the Omaze video from last week with the puppies. He looks mid 50s in the Omega photocall.

I love Danny Craig, unabashedly so. My comments on this thread prove this point time and again, but... and, please, GL, don't kick my ass for this, he looks awful in the pic. Like our young friend @JamesBondKenya, the facial stubble is awful.

He appears about fifteen to twenty pounds above his 007 weight, and looks as if he's suffering jet-lag, a hangover, or both.

If DC comes back, and I want him to, he can't do the SC thing and be bloated and unrealistic. Even as an aging secret agent, he must come back taut and hard-wired. If he's not prepared to put that time in to the character this time, the blunt instrument, even aged, then forget it....

On a side note: very interesting that this special meal was held. Although DC (being DC) seemingly gave nothing away, I would say he has one foot clearly in 007's door... Realistically, DC the actor has nothing to offer these people (investors, designers and so on), but DC as 007 is priceless...

Weird, I thought the opposite. The angles of the camera in the Omaze video weren't befitting.

Regarding the Omega CEO's statement, I just believe he means I hope it's you 'who will be our Bond brand ambassador for the next fiscal year' (meaning 2018). As I've mentioned before, Craig gets to be brand ambassador while he's Bond. He will have to drop it automatically once he's no longer 007, because the film and personal promotion deals are linked.

Companies do planning months in advance, and if Craig decides to pack it in, that announcement will be made at least one year in advance of the next film being released, as has been the practice in the past. Conversely the same if he stays. So the CEO is waiting to hear like the rest of us in order to understand the impact on his company's marketing plan.

@)Brady, i think it was mainly the bright lighting rather than angles... he was "illuminating" and his ears were really protruding more than I have ever seen!
