@Mendes, are we betraying what Fleming wrote by not having Bond smoke 70 cigs a day? No, 'cause times change. A thirty year old in the 1950s was far more aged than today's thirty year old.

And as far as your slight ageism, I know men in the military, men in charge of the military police here in Canada, who did four tours in Afghanistan, who just retired from action. He is in his late 50s.

Proper training (something I'm, well versed in), actually works chronologically, as I'm sure Talos can also explain to you. The more years spent in the gym, that is your gym age. So, I am 43 years old in real life, but I have been training for 25 years; I am a 25 year old man in gym terms and still in my prime-- not a 43 year old creaky fart!

This is why many of the competing strong men are well within their 40s, like my friend Stephen MacKenzie (who is mid 40s).

If Bond existed in today's world he'd be serviceable into his mid-50s.

And yes, I would welcome Craig showing us a spy in the twilight of his career. Cynical. Jaded, but god damn it all, he will still push his body another time for Queen and Country. Why? Because he's "motivated by (his) duty"; his hard wiring is one where he, like the aging athlete, just wants more go around since he knows nothing else.

DC can deliver on this characterization.

Some waif little man, or a poseur like Turner? No thanks. If you go young, give us a man, a masculine man with presence.

But I'm still in DC's corner where he can wrap up his era with something truly great (a la Hugh Jackman (48) in LOGAN (after 16 years of playing the role, no less than nine times)).
    Well said, sir.

Idris won't ever be Bond. I would say it was a very distant possibility some years back, but it's absolutely dead now. If you're going to talk Elba you might as well talk Tim Allen or John Goodman as it's about as likely.

I'd take Warwick Davis over Idris Elba as Bond. At least he's the correct race for Fleming's creation.

Having been watching SS-GB on the TV (written by Purvis and Wade no less), I can kinda buy into the idea of Sam Riley being Bond, gritty gravelly voice and all.

Scott Adkins is a bit too much of a meat head in my book. I'm not convinced with regards to his acting chops either.....we want an actor who is as talented as Craig, if he has to be replaced.

    I like Hiddleston.

Ian Fleming, himself an OE, tells us that Bond was at Eton for only a year before he was expelled for ‘trouble with a housemaid’ and transferred to Fettes. Bond’s Scottish schooling is not mentioned until the last completed novel, You Only Live Twice, published in 1964, by which time Fleming wanted to capitalise on the success of Sean Connery in the role.

Whether ordering a Martini or skiing off a cliff, Bond never loses the insouciant self-confidence of ‘school’, as OEs refer to their alma mater. It’s almost impossible to fake. He knows how to deploy good manners as a weapon. And he is a snob — a ‘tremendous snob’, in fact, to quote Sean Connery’s description of Ian Fleming, who was initially horrified that his hero was being played by a former Edinburgh milkman.

Hiddleston is the perfect acting combination of toff/ snob/ posh and hard edged military man. See The Night Manager.

Adkins may not have the popularity of Craig, but neither did Craig back then. I personally don't get all the love and admiration for him people call as talent when he was cast, which is not but exaggeration over admiration. Craig was pretty wooden in Layer Cake and his first two Bonds. More so in Royale than Solace (where improvement was being put on his part).

Adkins doesn't come off as snobbish nor as overtly posh like Hiddleston does. But, he can be tough and can offer depth at the same time. This comes from someone who has been following his work.

I agree, Hiddleston, although not my first choice, would do a great job. He has the 'chops' and the physicality to reinterpret the role. Don't get me wrong I don't feel that the current interpretation is wrong I just feel a new actor should bring a new feel.
My first choice BTW is a fantasy one - Fassbender - won't happen I know.

I think Hiddles probably suffers from Connery's initial portrayal, which set a tougher initial standard than perhaps Fleming originally envisaged (he was leaning more towards Cary Grant as I understand, and even felt Moore could pull it off).

If Daniel Craig isn't coming back, I'll take Tom Hiddleston 36 as my first choice. Back up would be Matthew Goode 38.
Hiddleston would make a great Bond imo. Very good actor.

    Agreed Benster.

And Matthew Goode is a 'goode' choice as well he he ;)

    I concur on both fronts.

Cue the now almost obligatory 'spread' to establish bona fides, in this case with patriotic flag and Craig-like Heineken in hand. For England Matthew?

Someone else had the same idea...

He has the physicality for the role more than anyone else suggested in this thread, in the media, and all of the actors to play Bond, save for Lazenby. Not since Lazenby, would there be so much potenital for the fight scenes.
