Well, it's hard to spin this as good news so close to the start of filming...

...but I guess, if there's a silver lining, we may end up getting a faithful YOLT adaptation after all.

I think Ridley Scott is an excellent suggestion. Does he really need to direct another Alien sequel/prequel/quel?

Sources tell Variety that Eon and Boyle were in the early stages of casting the new Bond girl and villain prior to the December production start. Producers will now act quickly to find Boyle’s replacement.

    https://variety.com/2018/film/news/bond-25-danny-boyle-exits-1202911993/

So if that tidbit is true, then they are still moving ahead with current story?

Who knows why this happened. Since they were in early stages of casting, this entire thing could have been a blow up ABOUT the casting (Boyle wanted persons X,Y, and Z, but Craig and the producers wanted ABC (from the DAF novel, of course!)) .

My gut still tells me they go with the Hodge script...

But is it normal to be in early stages of casting just 3 months before filming is supposed to start?

Martin McDonaugh would be a fantastic choice! I actually hope they do get him now..can't believe I never thought of him..
Martin McDonaugh just directed a movie that won 2 acting Oscars and got nominated for Best Picture. He is at the top of the world. Why on Earth would he agree to direct Bond 25 now when the production is in a deep mess?

That's the worst thing about this development: unless the movie is delayed or they get someone they already have a relationship with (Campbell or Mendes), they will have to pick a C- or D-list director. Even Demange would be a dream scenario for them now.

    Cause...why not? :D Maybe he's a Bond fan?

Being part of a franchise like this is huge.

Maybe he wants to try directing something blockbusterish. Idk.. :D

Also...a little bit of a wild throw but..what about Ridley Scott? He's not a director who's known for a certain style so he won't overshadow Bond, he has mad experience, he can definitely direct a movie with issues so.....if he wants...he can be the guy.
Also he's pretty mainstream and popular so it can fix some of the PR problems..idk, I think it may work..

    Another choice....Gareth Edwards.

He was praised for his work on Godzilla and ROgue One.

    He has nothing in production.

He worked with big studios before.

    He has the chops.

Theer are some great choices right now, I just dont' hope they rush the whole thing.

I am 99% sure if they approach this coldheaded they can create a great movie just in time for the release. Hell, even with a new script they'll be able to do that...

Eva Green was cast after filming started, IIRC. And the rest is history...

Very surprising at this stage indeed. And I'm sorry - I was excited for a Danny Boyle Bond film. I think they probably keep the Hodge script since they were quite excited about it ... at lease decisive. They went with it quickly. Interesting times ahead ...

This is what you get when you try to align a fairly rigid thematic template with an auteur.

Boyle was never a good fit for Bond. If only the producers had set a stronger course after the SP debacle.

DC’s influence needed to be curtailed years ago. He’s been a fine Bond, but what the franchise needs now is clean air. The Craig narrative feels leaden.

An anassuming director with action chops, a thrilling spy mission, a young actor free of Craig’s jaded weariness. Is that too much to ask?

I will always contend that the best Bonds were crafted by no-nonsense action guys with strong editing backgrounds.

Boyle is a Bond fan. I do think it could have worked well. Don't know how soon we will find out WHY this happened. Interesting director search now.

Yes... casting goes on throughout filming as well, and not just for filler roles; Eva Greene was cast AFTER shooting had started.

I seriously hope JBR are not right and Mendes doesn't get within a hundred miles of Bond 25.

If he comes back my expectation will be seriously downgraded. I think Dan is unlikely to work with him again on a Bond film at least, so hoping that he doesn't get the call.

They seem pretty sure it's the idea that has caused the exit, although for site many of you seem to like it seems very unlikely that a script that was signed off by BB, MGW & DC is all of sudden the reason Boyle has parted and these 2 are about as clueless as others on the internet.

I highly doubt the problem is the script. They signed onto it - changing course at that time - right away. Seemingly right away. Should not be the script issues, I think, that caused Boyle to leave.

But we won't know, probably for awhile yet.

What exactly happened between Craig and Mendes during SP? The JBR guys allude to this but I'd love to know more.

I've sent my showreel to EON...

I think losing Boyle is a real blow though. He's a likeable director, passionate in his projects and good in interviews. He always seems to deliver decent films (Trainspotting 2 is better than it has any right to be). And Boyle is a Bond fan - so walking away from this opportunity of a life time that he'll never get again seems something he wouldn't take lightly.

Dark times as this was going to be Craig leaving 'on a high' and instead it's Boyle leaving on a low and no clear path forward. There's every chance that EON may continue with Hodge's script. They did sign off on Hodge's script but perhaps they reached a fork in the road with how it was executed?

Anyone else think they've had time to kick back and watch the plaudits and cash thrown at 'MI: Fallout' and thought...we might want something like that?

I imagine it will get revealed at some point but I believe they fell out during shooting, I certainly didn't get the love fest vibe they gave while promoting Skyfall.

Both Dan & Sam were delighted with that I never got that from Dan at all.

Creative differences. That sounds like they didn't like the script Hodge wrote and Boyle rather wanted to tell that story than doing a Bond film based on a different plot.

I’m so angry right now. These bloody fools are running EON and they don’t know what they are doing. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    ugh

If I’m honest it’s almost certainly that Boyle wanted little action and the producers, after seeing fallout especially, wanted more action.

Classic case of bond films copying other films.

Boyle said no because it’s suppsoed to be a low key character piece. And so they booted him.

Now from here there are a few options..

They get purvis and wade to add action scenes to Boyle’s draft and then they get some hack director and make it. It’s May get delayed.

Or they go back to the original script

    Or they start fresh

Very sad times to be a bond fan if I’m honest.

Completely random but......why when you type "Shatterhand 007" on google you get TND as as suggestion?

If the call for more action is indeed true, I’m down with that.

Bravura action sequences interspersed with lifestyle porn is what the Craig canon so badly needs.

    Enough with the angsty claptrap.

James Bond Radio.com have suggested the great idea of Boyle's was Bond dying!

Bond is a ghost in Bond 26!

Genius idea. Can't wait for Idris Elba as James Bond Ghost. :P
