    It's not even about one's opinion on the acting, as that's not what an ensemble cast is. It's taken on different meanings, so again, it depends on what one sees it as.

    I loved Kario in GE. He dominated every scene. Great actor. John too.

    Let's not forget Scorupco. The look she gives Bond when she says "Trust you? I don't even know your name" melts me every time.

    God, cant agree with that at all! if I was pushed I would say the only half decent ensemble cast was TWINE. Marceau, Carlyle, Coltrane, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, David Calder, Michael Kitchen.

    To me Coltrane is the best thing about the Brosnan age. He got the tone of the films he was in perfectly. But I think this discussion about ensemble casts is fruitless, because they were almost all completely wasted. I mean, the SW prequels had an incredible ensemble cast too, but all the performances sucked so it didn't matter.

    Good point. It's not so much the cast, as how one uses them that counts.

    I give you GE, probably one of the stronger ensemble casts in the modern Bond era.

    But TND-DAD has a few problems.

    I liked Vincent Schiavelli, Desmond Llewelynn, Michelle Yeoh, Götz Otto, Sophie Marceau, Robbie Coltrane, John Cleese, Emilio Echevarria, Rosamund Pike and Judi Dench.

    TWINE does underuse extremely talented actors Ulrich Thomsen and Maria Grazia Cucinotta.

    I hated Teri Hatcher, Denise Richards (although admittedly gorgeous), Goldie, Lawrence Makoare and Halle Berry.

    Jonathan Pryce is middle pack I'd say, never been the biggest Robert Carlyle fan either.

    And then there is Madonna. It's striking that Halle Berry isn't even the worst female performer in DAD.

    Scorropco's really good I think. Aside from the scene @Bondjames used I like the I like the shot of her standing amongst all her dead colleagues with no idea what to do. I think she sells it very well.

    I get the point you're trying to make, and Christ knows Madonna is bad, but at least she's only there for 2 minutes and she's gone. Jinx is like a turd that won't flush and every single frame she's in is offensive.

    I absolutely hated MR. The scenes with Jaws, the over the top slapstick and a so much all around Dreck of a movie. Hated the villain, hated the Bond girl, hated her campy name, hated Lois Chiles, hated the space battle with the goddamned blue lasers, "007 is attempting re entry". God, I hate that $#$@# line.

    I also didn't like Roger Moore's "Hello, Felix!" in LALD. It's not so much cringeworthy as it is... plain annoying. And I know it was supposed to be like that, I just can't stop myself from being annoyed when Moore goes on the phone with Felix.

What if Milton Crest or Dario just happened to be inside the casino with Samchez? All they would have to do is say "hey that guys a spy, I've seen him before" and Bond is dead.

    That critical plot hole in LTK has always really, really grated on me. It is so large and glaring that it completely undermines the entire storyline. Seriously.

    Not really. It's just bad in some areas.

    Also, I think Brosnan's performance in TWINE is worse than Dalton's in LTK. Considerably.

    Some more negativity for you: I don't seem to get into LALD. I like Baron Samedi and Tee Hee but for the rest the film just feels underwhelming to me.

    - The PTS is quite possibly the most boring of the series
    - Yaphet Kotto is one of the weakest villains, the terrible Mr. Big disguise doesn't help
    - Adam and Whisper, forgettable
    - Gloria Hendry, the most annoying femme fatale you can imagine
    - What happened to the Ted Moore from FRWL/TB? The cinematography feels so lifeless
    - The climax is lackluster and Kananga's demise is laughable
    - As for the boat chase, it's spectacular but goes on for a tad too long
    - The chase with the plane, my goodness
    - On a controversial note: never ranked the title song as one of the best either
    - The cards with the 007 sign on the back
    - Jane Seymour while admittedly gorgeous is very much a damsel in distress, even the much maligned Goodnight managed to knock out Kra.

    Ah, I almost forgot I do like the cab driver: "HELLLOOOWWW JIM".

    I have to agree with you about LALD - which is weird because I really loved it as a kid.

    I like LALD but have never been madly in love with it like some. It's a bit too dated and kind of tatty aswell.

    The black stereotypes are pretty funny though and I like Yaphett Koto. I think what annoys me are the often cheap attempts at humour (quite a few come from Hedison actually).

    In my humble estimation no. Not even close. TWINE undoubtedly deserves that title, but I would add 'Day Time' in front of it.

    LTK is a little cheesy (particularly the ending) but TWINE has the 'love triangle', betrayal, infamous shoulder injury and romantic implications, not to mention world class acting (cough..) etc. etc.

    The soap opera in the franchise is clearly Skyfall, the church scene could be right out of Grey's Anatomy

    I blame Guy Hamilton. His 4 films rank quite poorly for me, the highest is Diamonds are Forever at 12 (I have a soft spot for it...it would be higher but I like 11 films more).

    Reasons are similar to what you list for LALD but swap character names and action scenes

    I don't think Rosie Carver even qualifies as a femme fatale. She was absolutely pathetic.

    And I agree that the cinematography was weaker than usual. Fortunately, the score injected life into what might've otherwise been fairly a dead-feeling film, in my opinion.

    While the score is decent enough, on my last viewing I thought it was a bit repetitive. Still, one of the better non-Barry scores

    Me too. Don't need to mention the boat chase, and the camera is lifeless throughout the film. There's no doubt there are many iconic moments which are good to watch in isolation

    Agreed. Barry's score for TMWTGG is also quite eccentric, like the film, but similarly charismatic. Lots of great suspenseful bits in this score. Some of my favourites are:

    1. The score when Bond is waiting outside the Bottom's Up Club, including first seeing NicNac
    2. the bit when Andrea returns to Scaramanga's to put her jewelry back
    3. the part when Bond hides Goodnight in the closet with the lights out just before Andrea returns from the bathroom.

    I don't get the hate the score receives. If this is Barry's rushed effort, he must be a genius because as a whole it's still better than any of the non-Barry scores, and even non-Bond scores

    I find all your criticisms to be fair, except for this one. I think Kotto gave an outstanding performance. He makes the most of the bad makeup job and is actually quite menacing in the scene where he removes the false face. I find him to be one of the more underrated villains in the series.
