    Because the last two earned just under $600 million. Even four years later, there is just not that kind of market out there for Bond. If we get $200 million from the US, how on Earth do you expect it to earn $700 million internationally? That would mean it would have to earn over $250 million more than the last films and be one of the biggest international money makers of all time.

    It's not having little faith, it's simple maths.

    'Skyfall' Shatters U.K. Record for Monday Box Office

    The U.K.'s fascination with James Bond has never been more intense, at least at the box office. "Skyfall," the latest entry in the super spy franchise, has set the record for that country's biggest Monday ever, taking in $6.8 million.

    That tops the previous Monday all-time high, set by last year's "Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" with $5.1 million. The 23rd film in the 50-year-old Bond film franchise has now taken in more than $96 million in four days and should pass the $100 million mark Thursday
    "Skyfall" is playing in 25 foreign countries ahead of its Nov. 9 bow in the U.S. Other notable four-day hauls: Russia, $9.2 million, France, $8.6 million; Korea, $6.5 million, and Brazil, $3.6 million.

    Just got the opening week results in France:

    1.839.220 tickets sold. Not too shabby, considering that the movie opened last friday, instead of last wednesday like all other movies in France. Here's the full BO for that week:

    Skyfall Biggest Ever First-Week Box Office Earner In The UK

    After a valiant battle, Harry Potter has lost out to older British icon – James Bond. Skyfall is breaking all box office records in the UK.

    While Skyfall had only the second biggest box office tally ever in the UK for the first weekend – trailing Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 – over the first full week, Skyfall has actually managed to outpace the boy wizard’s final adventure.

    Skyfall has now taken an extraordinary £37.2 million in its opening week, overtaking Deathly Hallows Part 2 to secure the biggest seven day gross of all time in UK box office history.

    In response to the amazing news, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said, “We are very grateful to the Bond fans and all UK cinema audiences for making Skyfall the biggest opening week ever during our 50th anniversary year.”

    “The continued record-breaking success of this film is a true testament to all involved and the global power of this 50 year old franchise” said Gary Barber, chairman and chief executive Officer, MGM.

    Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 eventually earned £73,094,187 in the UK, so Skyfall is already over halfway to overtaking it. Not bad for a film that isn’t showing anywhere in 3D, eh?

    Just for your interest, here are the Top 10 earners ever at the UK box office (not taking into account inflation). Where do you think Skyfall will end up?

    It'll settle near the three The Lord of the Rings films, though may be able to beat the last Harry Potter film if it's beating it at the moment.

    Casino Royale is currently number 12.

    Great news to hear and read. As the film opens in more countries it will be facinating to see how much Skyfall will end up taking? Personally as long as it surpasses CR i believe the producers and MGM/Sony will be more than happy.

    I think we will have a £100 million Bond movie in the UK - the Olympics' clip is doing Bond the world of good.

    A Bond movie with a very British feel doing well in the UK in the wake of a feel good summer - a big hand for this superb bit of marketing strategy...oh and of course to the writers.

    I think, they will just ride on the success of this film, while its still hot. They are writing the script as we speak and will have - after SF - an even better access to the greatest talent out there. Directors will queue up, if Mendes declines and they can choose from the best.

    According to Box Office Mojo, not only has Skyfall outgrossed the entire Avengers run in the UK, but it's also tracking ahead of Avatar in the same number of days release.

    That's pretty incredible. In just two weekends, it has already become the 14th highest-grossing film in the UK of all time.

    And it's beaten that movie with all the superheroes....Avenge-something.

    It's open in nearly every international market now but the money should keep piling in over the weeks ahead. Could Skyfall make a run for $600 million overseas? It'll give it a good go. This film is big, can't wait for the US opening next week!
