    The Matador 2
    Matadors
    The Return of the Matador
    The Matador Strikes Again
    The Matador Part II
    The (Julian) Noble House
    Matador: Wright & Noble
    The Greek Matador

Brosnan and Kinnear have such cool chemistry. They should work together again. I haven't seen Salvation Boulevard so I don't know if they share any scenes.

They do share a few scenes together. That one wasn't at all what I was expecting but was still pretty solid overall, uniquely different.

Brendan Ingle was a truly great man and an absolute Sheffield legend. Pierce is honoured to be playing him, tbh. However, the producers have got no idea just how badly they've cocked-up by filming it in Leeds instead of Sheffield. It's like making a film about Celtic and filming it at Ibrox!

    Nice, will watch.

I know he's 70 but Pierce went so quickly from "older, seasoned secret agent" to "older than dirt retirement home citizen" in just a couple of years.

And yet his fans on twitter would insist he could still play Bond today as if no time had passed beyond his greying hair.
  • Dalton fans have been insisting the same thing. In fact “Old Man Bond” isn’t a new concept by any means.

There's a good chance he'll be doing a East End accent for this one apparently, Brosnan + accent is always a treat!

Agreed; my favorite is “Foghorn Leghorn” Brosnan from Fast Charlie.

If Pierce plays Brendan Ingle, he'll have to learn an Irish accent...

He's playing Ron (I haven't read it so I don't know much about the character).
  • I want a Taffin sequel with more shouty Brosnan!

Pierce sets up another film with romantic thriller A Spy's Guide To Survival, where he plays an ex-spy who strikes up a relationship with his neighbor:

According to this, Pierce is in Leeds filming for that Brendan Ingle/Naseem Hamed movie. All the glamour spots...cough...

It is great to see Brozza continue to solidly work after his post-Bond career, similar to Connery.

Brosnan playing a drunken werewolf hunter? Sure, why not?

It is nice to see him keep working. Dalton and Craig (so far) have done ok with their post Bond careers as well.

And a very, very happy 71st birthday to my all-time favorite actor today. My love of film as a whole wouldn't be possible without the action-packed heights of GE kicking off my Bond obsession and everything else that's followed.

Happy Birthday, Pierce. You've been a:

    IRA hitman
    Private detective
    Anthropologist
    Taffin
    Military officer
    19th century millionaire turned adventurer
    Virtual reality scientist
Handsome man involved with crossdresser's ex-wife
    Heroic secret agent
Scientific advisor to the president of the United States
    Volcanologist
20th century millionaire turned art robber
    Corrupt secret agent
Hitman going through a mid-life crisis
The object of Liam Neeson's wrath
Prime minister who doesn't have a clue (a tautology?)
    Pastor
    Policeman
    Flamboyant king
    Less flamboyant king
    Superhero
    Fixer for the mob
    WW2 veteran

And now, the greatest challenge of them all:
    Drunken werewolf hunter

    What a career.

He is playing Ron?! Having read the books, I can't even begin to imagine Pierce in this role. A former trades union official with a West Ham tattoo on his neck, I'd always imagined someone like Ray Winstone for this part.

But if this means we'll see Pierce with a thick cockney accent, that alone will make this film a must watch!

The casting of Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley is spot on though. Mirren in particular.

Let's just put it this way: I really like The Thursday Murder Club book series, so I was already sold on watching this movie. Now I learn that Pierce is in it. Great! Then I learn he's portraying Ron?! I mean, this film went from a film I will definitely watch, to (probably) the upcoming film I'm most excited about! :D

What's next, I wonder. Will Daniel Craig play Bogdan?

Who would you cast as Joyce? Osman said they've got someone perfect for it I think.
  • edited May 17 Posts: 17,352
Good question, and I really don't know. Pierce is a bit younger than Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley obviously, and there are plenty of good actresses in that age range.

Off the top of my head, someone like Celia Imrie, Joanna Lumley, Zoë Wanamaker, Brenda Blethyn and Annette Badland would fall into that category. If younger, maybe Lesley Manville or Samantha Bond? Manville and Bond might be a bit too young though.

I'm sure with the cast they've already got, they've found a perfect Joyce too.

    😂

I suppose the film poster tagline could be...

'If the werewolf doesn't kill him, the booze will.'

    🤭
