The best posers are the ones that subtly allude to the theme or story of the film.

All of these wonderful devil themed posters makes me want to watch a few horror films – and I'm not a horror fan!

U don t have to be a horror fan to enjoy Angel Heart. Have you seen it, TT?

There are some good posters for The Magnificent Seven, and I think this is myfavourite:
    The-Magnificent-Seven-Landscape.jpg

The new version also has a cool one:

No, I haven't. @Thunderfinger. Only seen very shorts clips from it. If I find the time this Christmas, I'll give Angel Heart a try!

Love it when they play around with the type design! The poster for the original is great in all it's simplicity, but the poster for the new one isn't bad either.

I was a huge Angel Heart and Mickey Rourke fan and I still have the poster in my collection in storage. It also had a great tagline "Harry Angel is searching for the truth. Pray that he doesn't find it."

You're right. It's also considered a detective story and can also be classified as a thriller or suspense too, so it touches on several genres.

That's a very interesting poster, @Thunderfinger! The line work on that illustration looks a bit like something Saul Bass could have made.

Watched that George Hamilton film not that long ago actually. Very silly, but entertaining enough. Great poster artwork too! That Higher Power poster made me think of the poster artwork for the 2005 remake of The Fog, sans the neon colours of course:

Two things about the second movie : First, the flying saucer tha aliens use is the exact same flying saucer the Daleks used in the Doctor Who movie Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.. Proof here :

Second, among the actors, we can recognize a name : Neil Connery, Sean's brother. Yes, he did some things after Operation Kid Brother

That film is on my to-watch list! That's a great poster; really lovely line art on that illustration. Made me think of the black and white comic strips of the 40's, 50's and 60's – like Rip Kirby etc.

I have a soft spot for typography like the one used on this poster. I have a book about mid century typography, and that book is filled with stuff like this.

The Planet of the Apes series were my favorites as a kids growing up in the 1970s. My brother has a combo poster of the first two films in his home cinema room.

How do the newer films hold up against the originals, @BT3366?

Had a look to see if I could find the film, but no luck. Maybe it will pop up somewhere at some point.

It was the sequel to this earlier (1949) movie, also featuring Fernandel :

And both movies are available on DVD in France.
