18/36, so 50%. I'll admit, I haven't seen a lot of his work, but I have quite a few of his movies added to Netflix Instant.

Oh, and 'Lions for Lambs'? Don't worry, you aren't missing out in the slightest. Really bad film.

Not a bit of it; my boy Tom has been in some pretty good/great movies. B-)

I couldn't agree more. I know Dustin Hoffman steals the scenes in the film, but 'Rain Man' is absolutely fantastic.

Somewhere around 24 I think. I haven't seen anything he's done lately though.

16... Collateral is the one that sticks out for me as being his best non-Cruise performance. I do love Jerry McGuire though. :P

    28/36.

Not bad, I do enjoy Cruise in almost every movie. There's literally one or two of his films I wouldn'tbe interested in.

I have seen 8 from beginning to end, but there are also a number that I have only seen in parts, though never in full. Therefore, I don't count those. He is an actor I like very much, and will enjoy spending some timing dipping into his earlier/lesser known work, as well as the more acclaimed films of his I have yet to see. His dedication to every project he is involved with and seemingly endless adrenaline to give everything his all is great, and something other actors (I am looking at you, Mr. Willis) should take note of. I honestly don't think he has ever done a film for the money, and instead picks films based on his own interests as a actor to capture a particular character or to work with other filmmakers he admires, like Spielberg and Kubrick, for example. Again, many actors could take notes.

My favorite performances of his are in Rain Man and A Few Good Men.

This is a great interview, as it always is when Mr. Lipton is involved. Enjoy:

Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder was probably his most unexpected and un Tom Crusian role ever. When I first saw him in that movie, I didn't believe it was him but his voice is so recognizable I was like wow.
    Tom-Cruise-Les-Grossman-Cell-Phone.jpg
It's probably one of his most Brilliant roles too. I hope he gets a spinoff movie.

Hey Murdock, which of Tom's MI movies do you find to be most 'Bondian'?
    For me it's MI2.
It's like a John Woo version of Goldeneye, heh heh.

To me MI-1 or Ghost Protocol are the most Bondian.

I don't like MI-2 and 3 is okay. He's excellent in Collateral. I don't remember much of War of the Worlds and I haven't really seen his other films.

I have always said that usually a Tom Cruise movie is worth the price of admission. He finds a way of landing in good and entertaining films since 1986. Some of my favorites
    VALKYRIE
    LAST SUMARAI
    JERRY MCGUIRE
    A FEW GOOD MEN

No I don't mind his long hair. It's just the complete tone and reality shifts from the first one to the second. The first one was very laid back and full on thriller as the second is balls to the wall action and over the top plus Hans Zimmer's score is a drop in quality over Danny Elfman's fantastic score.

    I'm from USA. :D
But in all seriousness I wasn't comparing MI2 to DAF just the tonal shifts between films.

John Woo was an extremely poor choice for MI2. It's the odd one out of the four films. The Ethan Hunt character is like a completely different person in it.

Did Tom gain weight for Tropic Thunder, or was there makeup and a fat suit involved? I know that he performed as that same character at the MTV movie awards, so I am edging towards a fat suit, also considering how much Tom seems to like keeping in the best shape possible. He was hilarious in that role, and as many have said, it was quite a surprising project to take on for someone of his acting calibre. I have spoken to some people about the film, mentioned who he played, and they looked at me in awe because they didn't know it was him. Quite cool, that. I love his character in that movie, and his scenes are about the only thing I have seen of that film. I'll have to get through all of it someday.

As for Tom's most Bondian flick, I would probably say MI1 or MIGP. MI1 because it feels like an old school espionage film akin to the early Connery Bond (as well as Dalton and Craig's films), and MIGP because of the insanely impressive stunts (most that Tom did himself!), and Giacchino's amazing score which brought in a lot of brass for some great instrumental power that reminded me of his past score for The Incredibles (which I loved) and also of John Barry's Goldfinger score (and Bond music in general).

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, I'm pretty sure all of that was just makeup and a fat suit. After that, you had all of the talks of a spin-off film involving his character, but it never happened.

Whenever I have an MI Marathon, I always skip 2 and go straight to 3.

    27/36 :-O .
I wouldn´t consider myself a fan, but I´m always amazed at how good an actor he is despite his incredible self-indulgence. I like him best when he´s not producing or exec producing. Lions and Lambs was a dull film, but one of Cruise´s best performances ever. Love him in Collateral. And, yeah, his appearance in Tropic Thunder just killed me, I don´t know how long it took me to notice it´s him.

I think MI2 is just fine, it´s just that I find the female lead totally dull, that pulls the whole thing down for me.
