I do want a stand-alone film as well, with Campbell and Craig and why not.
There is NO reason at all to look back at SP or even further back.
Bond was never about sequels and it never again should be like that.

I looked into my crystal ball and it told me that Craig will return for his fift Bond and that Soderberg will helm the movie.

I just hope I'm reading this correctly.

Yes, Yes and Yes to Campbell returning! As I said previously " reunite the "Casino Royale band" of Campbell, Craig and , yes Arnold. Let them do what they did with CR, a reasonably faithful telling of one of Fleming's novels. It would make a great bookend for the Craig era."

I tell you @talos7 the day it is announced Campbell will direct Craig again in his fifth Bond movie and David Arnold is doing the score I'll instantly die of excitement!
Well, no...I'll wait with dying until I've seen it of course.

Daniel Craig, Channing Tatum, and Adam Driver are currently 50 feet away, dancing like fools to @carseatheadrest and I can't stop laughing.

Are we really that stuck in our Bond-Fandom mindset that we....only consider Martin Campbell as director? Not that I dislike Campbell. On the contrary, he would be a serious option for me as well.

But, as we were discussing good stories and better screenplays, then why not letting first EON Productions focus on that and afterwards look for a possible director to execute it. It has been done with GE, with CR and perhaps with Bond #25?

Having said all that, and IF a damn good story is in place, I do have a wishlist of directors who could direct such a good story treatment:

    - Martín Campbell
    - Steven Soderbergh
    - Ron Howard
    - Christopher Nolan
    - Paul Haggis (as director)
    - Guy Ritchie
    - Denis Villeneuve
    - Paul Greengrass
    - Anthony & Joe Russo
    - Jon Favreau
    - Kathryn Bigelow
    - Matthew Vaughn, &
    - Alfonso Cuarón (how could I forget him @BondJasonBond006)

That is a great list. But you have forgotten the most important one.

    Alfonso Cuarón.
Imagine him together with Alexandre Desplat doing the score.

Soderbergh would likely hate the long shoots and may not like the restrictions placed on his vision, like Nolan. Paul Haggis might make his QoS script a reality and have Bond and Madeleine raise a baby in the movie, so I'm unsure there. Guy Ritchie needs to get on making more Sherlock Holmes movies, so axe him from consideration. Paul Greengrass is out of the question, as I'd actually like to see the movie I'm watching instead of a constant blur of moving parts. The Russos are making Disney money and are doing the best Marvel films we've got yet, so let them do their thing there.

Don't have much of an opinion on the others.

GE was a good effort. I disagree about it being one of the best, thought the opening shot, on Contra Dam, is pretty "damn" impressive.

From the list by @Gustav_Graves, I'd like to see Villaneuve given a shot at it.

GE is now in the vulnerable spot to be 20 years old. I think movies hitting the 20th are always looking and feeling a bit dated. But in another 10 years GE will definitely belong to the few true classics the franchise has.

GE's reliance on dated computer tech destined it to be badly outdated, but that tank chase, Bond vs. Alec fight and Natalya and Xenia will always be great, so those elements will keep the film alive.

    Nope.

GE will just keep on looking more and more dated.

Dated Shmated! It adds to the charm from which it came from. :P I love old tech and those classic computer clicking sounds. Ahhhhh. Classic.

@Getafix, I wouldn't be too sure. Hell, the fact that GE will inevitably date badly is what will keep it alive. Years from now, our grandkid's grandkid's grandkid's will be watching GE on a projection screen inside their heads while they're dreaming, remarking at how funny those "computer" things must have been in an age without time travel, AI slave robots, hover cars and military warrior bots.

They will marvel at the amount of styling mousse in Brosnan's hair.

Child of the far future: "Mum, did you see that?!"

Mother of the far future: "What, honey?"

Child of the far future: "That man there hung upside down in a lavatory, punched a man right in the face and his hair stayed in one place!"

Mother of the far future: "You've not seen nothin' yet. Later, he pilots a tank in a country they used to call Russia, and he tears the place up with it, but guess what? His hair stays right in place. Amazing. Just amazing."

No one can adjust his tie like Brosnan in a tank on the streets of St. Petersburg or in a jet boat while being under water.

    That's class!

Brosnan could fix his cuffs and tie underwater in a tank of pond scum that's hanging upside down, swinging like a pendulum, AND with two sets of handcuffs on locked behind his back....blindfolded!

Except, Brosnan's hair looked horrible in GE, far too long on the sides.
