    https://hmssweblog.wordpress.com/hmss-archive-iron-man-the-cold-war-years/

In the 1960s, the Soviets were either trying to knock off Tony Stark (because he supplied the U.S. with weapons) or come up with their own equivalent of Iron Man. By Stan Lee and various writers (including his brother, Larry Lieber) and artists. Included was the introduction of the Black Widow, originally a Soviet spy.

Growing up in the 60's and 70's there were no video games, DVD's or computers. But we did have Marvel comics.

Loved reading over and over the adventures of Spider-Man and The Hulk. My two favourites, who played a big part in my young life.

    Thanks Stan. R.I.P

  • 1971: Stan Lee and his wife Joan (who died last year) make a cameo in an issue of Daredvil, written by Gerry Conway, drawn by Gene Colan and inked by Tom Palmer.

  • Stan's penchant for making cameos was in evidence long before Marvel made any movies... in fact, a determined researcher can find him showing up in comics stories as far back as the '40s, with several appearances in the '50s. We will not see his like again...

I admit I was never a big comic fan and found out about Marvel mainly through the films. But Stan Lee was undoubtedly a titan in the superhero world over.

He will be missed and his legacy will live on.

Roy Clark. Probably most famous for participating in the exchange, "I'm a pickin... and I'm a grinnin'" out in some corn field with Buck Owens on the American TV's series, "Hee Haw." Roy was a fabulous guitar & banjo player, with a voice like honey. Here's one of most evocative songs, "Yesterday When I Was Young." Rest in Peace, Roy.

Just heard legendary screenwriter William Goldman just died.
Wrote Marathon Man, All the Presidents Men and one of my all time favourite movies, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid!
His famous quote about Hollywood "Nobody knows anything" referring to what the audience wants, has passed into history!

Ricky Jay was one of the highlights of TND. I wish they'd kept the scene where he fights Bond with his cards.

Especially since it was the reason he was hired in the first place. Missed opportunity, this.

And I just learned that australian director Nicholas Roeg (Walkabout, The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Witches, among others) has passed away, aged 90 :

Sad to learn of the passing of Ricky Jay.
Certainly a good villainous role in TND as Henry Gupta. One of the better characters in the film.
    RIP
