Sir Rog always had his own distinct style!

I was watching a bit of North By Northwest again last night and Cary Grant reminds me a little of Roger Moore. Moore's comment "the thought had occurred to me" when he's hanging from the cable-car in MR is very Grant-esque. Smooth when faced with danger, gentlemanly.

Roger is the only Bond who didn't have to act to be Bond. Being Roger Moore was good enough already.

I love this man. And unlike himself, I think Roger is a pretty good actor. I love his dramatic as well as his funny moments in the Bonds. I think his age didn't begin to show until AVTAK, and I suspect they performed some plastic surgery on him between '83 and '85. ;-) Still, OP may very well have one of the coolest Moore performances for me.

What I can furthermore appreciate is that Roger doesn't let the fans down. He's almost always present when Bond tributes, reunions or documentaries are recorded. And he for one doesn't talk about his days as Bond as if they are but a distant nightmare.

I've just booked a ticket to see him on Sunday at a book signing in my local Waterstones :D

OP is definitely one of my favourite Bond performances from him. Sadly I don't think he keeps it up in AVTAK.

My god i would love a ticket to actually meet the great man and have a brief conversation! How on earth do you get tickets for something like that?

It was easier than I thought actually. Went into the shop after seeing a big sign in the window and they said they still had a few tickets available.

I managed to find the time to listen to the Reunion show that took place on Radio 4! What a thoroughly enjyayable listen! :D

I listened to that too. It was kind of awkward hearing Moore talking to Britt Eckland as I remember him calling her a silly cow on stage in 2008. Also I felt sorry for Richard Kiel. The poor bloke didnt sound very good.

Great interview with Sir Rog on the BBC news channel today. At the end when he's saying goodbye to the interviewer his voice got a bit higher pitched. "Why did I yodel?" He asks.

Yeah he did sound out of sorts but then again he beat his alcohol demon! And that is something to admire. Good for him as I am sure it is not easy! =D>

I didn't hear this radio interview; I wish I had! Is it available for replay?
I'm a huge fan of Roger Moore.
As for Richard Kiel ... he is much older now, too. I hope his voice was "off" just from being tired or slightly under the weather, nothing serious. He had overcome his alcohol addiction decades ago, so I hope that had not resurfaced for him more recently. He had a bad car accident in 1992, leaving him somewhat impaired. I hope he is doing all right, all things considered. I have always liked him. I have not checked out his website in a long time; perhaps I will later today. I sure do wish him well.

I wonder whether Kiel may have had a stroke of some kind. I'm not sure obviously but his speech sounded slurred.

Ah! I just went on the BBC4 website, and I can listen to it later today. Good to know. :)

And Britt apparently makes this comment (read from the blurb about the show):

Britt Ekland says today's Bond girls are victim to the era of political correctness. "They are beautiful businesswomen instead of sex kittens like we were."
  • edited September 2014 Posts: 11,189
    Sex kitten?? Bollocks.

Well Britt I'd rather have a beautiful intelligent businesswoman than your dopey, incompetent, unfunny bimbo.

Also, Solange from CR was a more convincing, more believable character and "sex kitten" than she ever was,

I'll listen to it tonight, sounds like a great group of talents. Scared that Kiel didn't sound well. I met him at a convention last year and he sounded fine.

Just listened to the Reunion podcast. Great stuff. A lot of the stories have been heard, but nice to hear some of the actors dialogue back and forth who have not done interviews together in quite some time.

Kiel did unfortunately sound a bit off. Some sad news that I found out. Last week he broke his leg in a fall, which required surgery. http://www.daily-journal.com/news/local/plenty-to-pinch-hit-for-jaws-at-bond-fest/article_f43c7d43-6dfb-5806-bb89-2db7724cde3a.html

Roger hasn't changed much since that was filmed. Wish I could say the same for those interest rates.

In light of the passing of Richard Kiel this week? It was nice to hear him again during this reunion show. RIP Big Guy!

Just back from Cardiff where I've spent an evening with Sir Roger on his latest round of the book tour for Last Man Standing have to say that he's on great form at the moment looking verry well and is as witty and funny as ever I do urge you to go along and see him if you get the chance you will be well entertained as I have been tonight.

Glad you enjoyed it, I knew you would! Did he do a book signing?

I couldn't sleep early this morning and suddenly remembered a brief exchange I had with my grandad back in 2012:

Me: "did you watch that interview Roger Moore did with Piers Morgan the other night?"
Him: "No!! Why Roger Moore would prostitute himself to him god only knows".

(and he was never really a big fan of Roger Moore)

That did make me smile :)
