NOT the right thing to say on a Bond board [-X

    Why not?

That was an attempt of my side to be sarcastic.. \:D/

Oh! Sorry; I usually get the sarcasm. I rather enjoy it. :D I know there are so many Dr. Who fans.

Wasn't there something about Bond turning down a knighthood in the The Man With The Golden Gun novel? Or was it that agents couldn't accept it?

Maybe after 50 years of service Bond and the Queen think otherwise? ;)
The whole idea of an agent, Britain's best to boot, is just foolish. That agent (Bond in this case) would be outed to the world.

Ah, sorry. It's hard to tell when it's in text.
  • Even though this is kind of tacky and corny, its great that Her Majesty is basically joining the likes of Presidents Kennedy and Reagan in promoting James Bond! Skyfall couldn't wish for a bigger promo, in front of a huge global audience.

    God save the Queen!

No need to joke about it - it's already happened/ will happen (timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly)... ;)

Yes, I don't like the sound of this if it's true.

Fleming always said that agents were not permitted to receive knighthoods for obvious reasons and Bond was offered, on one or two occasions, a medal or/and knighthood (can't remember exactly) that he not only turned down because it wasn't allowed but also due to the fact that he's not intersted in such things.

I'm sure if it exists, it will be a stand alone promo video and when Bond 24 comes out, he will not be "Sir" James Bond.

Love Doctor Who, love Tennant's Doctor...

...absolutely hated this episode and I've always thought that scene was the nadir of nuWho.

Bring on Danny boy, it gives me a reason to watch the olympics and I'm sure it'll be done rather tongue in cheek.

No, it won't have anything to do with the films. Eon would be out of their minds to start calling Bond Sir Bond in the films. I just don't particularly like the character being associated with such things even if it happens outside of the cinematic and literary world.

Of course he won't be "Sir James Bond". It's only a tongue-in-cheek bit of fun. As already stated, agents in the field are not offered, and do not accept, knighthoods. A retired Bond is a different matter. David Niven played a retired Sir James in Casino Royale (1967) of course....

But Bond will never retire in the movies. As long as the money keeps being raked in, 'James Bond Will Return'

I recently heard all this chat on the radio about how Bond/Daniel Craig would be participating in the Olympics and one thing they said was that he'd travel in a helicopter to the Olympic stadium together with the queen, then he'd drop out of the chopper into the stadium...without the queen. :)

I hope he doesn't receive a knighthood though.

Yes, I think so, there are other reports about the Queen being on the heli herself, too.

Its only the Mirror, but its a bit more detailed. It doesn't sound, like it couldn't happen that way

I tghink, this would be an excellent way to do it. Its still awesome but not that dangerous. Not bad for a guy with a fear of heights though. He is a sucker for punishment for sure ;)

That does sound pretty awesome, if it happens.

I would love for this to be true and am so pleased we'll find out in only two months whether it really is.

I'm still a bit doubtful about this story, I have to confess. I reserve the right to believe it when I see it.

If he receives a knighthood, this will just be cheesy and stupid.

I think that bit was made up, even though the rest of the story may well be too.

I'm just guessing it's not true. It doesn't fit in with the rest of what we've heard.

If they did a sequence for the Olympics? It's just abit of harmless fun and terrific free marketing for 007! He won't then be Sir James Bond? That really would blow his Secret Agent cover stood in front of the camera's recieving his Knighthood in front of the Queen! =))

I still think this is a lovely prank, but a prank all the same....
Being the biggest fan, it would be amazing.
But in the real world...nope...could we have the opening of the games by a shoot first ask questions later....Not the best image being the host nation could portray.

I'm sorry, but this is so incredibly cheesy. It just doesn't fit with Craig's grim-faced, low-tech, naturalistic Bond. Anyone else find this slightly cringeworthy?

I think it's a bit cheesy, but it's fun, it's something to be excited about before SF and it's good publicity for SF. Plus, I like the Olympics and I like Bond, so most of it is fine by me. I'd prefer it if the Queen wasn't involved though tbh.

James Bond is a British icon. This has nothing to do with the tone of any of the films. That's why the character is supposedly involved in the launch of the Olympics. How is it cringeworthy? How you you have Bond open the games?

As much as i like Bond---how will this opening ceremony compete against Beijing opening ceremony?

Well, I for one am glad that it won't try to compete with Beijing in the same way. This will be a British Olympics, hopefully with fun and class and sass, not just awesomely impressive masses of people moving in synchronized routines. Beijing was appropriate for its time and place. No nation should try to replicate that, I feel. Each Olympics should try to reflect its own heritage and style. This will be, I hope, a whole different kind of opening ceremony.

As for Bond, as others have said, James Bond is a British icon and if he is fitted into the opening ceremony somehow, it sounds like fun to me. A lighthearted salute to something truly British that the world knows and loves. Not to be taken seriously but a nod. I hope it is true.

I love the Olympics, and I still remember the remarkable Barcelona opening ceremony with the archer shooting the flaming arrow to light the torch! Exciting and beautifully executed under pressure.

I may have missed this part of the conversation, but has anyone considered that we may also be treated to a little "mini" Bond adventure, directed by Danny Boyle, with DC and the Queen, and scored, most likely, by David Arnold. It might include a couple of stunts and maybe a few funny bits before leading to the live event, like what they do with the Oscars these days. Maybe a little "audition" for Danny Boyle if he wanted to do a Bond film in the future. Should be fun. The Olympics are in reality the opening ceremonies for the 50th Anniversary celebreations!
