I just don't enjoy Scotch. It's too much for me.

My friend surprised me with his take on a Vesper on my birthday. It was fantastic.
He used Tanqueray no.10 as a Gordons substitute. His solution for lack of Kina Lillet was also interesting. I should ask him to write it down on here to share.

A good substitute for Kina Lillet is Lillet Blanc (a bit hard to find, can be substituted by some other dry Vermute) with a few drops of Angostura.

I'm not a fan of drinking alcohol but I love (and when I say love, I adore) Champagne, always Brut. Ocasionally a dry white Port is also nice!

Speaking of champagne, I could do with a mimosa right about now. Might liven up this lazy afternoon.

    Has anyone got this app?

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-spy-mixology/id436761971?mt=8

Basically every drink Bond ever has (in the films) along with the recipes to make them.

    @TheWizardOfIce:

I posted about that last year, though not many people noticed

    http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/858/the-bond-mixology-iphone-app

I would love to know if someone has it, if only to list all the recipes for us!

Yeah I have it but unless you can tell me how to copy/paste text from an app I'm not about to write it all out for you. :-S

    That much is there?! Wow!

Can I pick a film for you to copy then, please? Just one?

There's not really that much it's just I'm bone idle.

To be honest it's not as good as it sounds as, for example, for the Vesper it just lists the ingredients and measures and 'then says shake until ice cold and serve with a sliver of lemon peel' which is what Bond said.

Of more interest is the drinks cabinet whic tells you the brand of every drink consumed by Bond.

Tell me which film you want and I might get round to it if it's quiet at work tomorrow but no promises.

    Thunderball, please.

Here you go Samuel. Never let it be said I am miserable curmudgeon who spends all his time getting into arguments and slagging off DAD. That said don’t ask me to do the other 21 films.

    Thunderball

0:47 – Red wine: Lunch by the pool with Domino.

0:52 – Dom Perignon: After Bond defeats Largo at baccarat, he takes Domino to the casino’s nightclub. After perusing the menu he orders, ‘Beluga caviar, Dom Perignon ‘55’.

0:57 – Vodka Martini: Bond returns to his suite (where one of Largo’s henchmen is waiting). The first room has a sidebar with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red and a bucket of ice.
After embarrassing Largo’s henchman, Bond (at a second drinks area) adds ice to a tall glass and pours in what appears to be Smirnoff Blue vodka. He then adds Cinzano dry vermouth. Its either a martini on the rocks, or lacking a shaker, Bond intends to swirl the glass and pour the contents into another glass. We’ll never know, because the scene ends as he pours the Cinzano.

1:12 – Rum Collins: When Bond arrives at Palmyra, a servant brings two drinks. Largo takes them and offers one to Bond, asking ‘Rum Collins, Mr. Bond?’
Bond replies (while checking the Geiger counter in his watch) ‘Yes. Just about that hour , isn’t it?’

1:15 – Dom Perignon: When we see Bond and Domino at the Junkanoo, he is puring her a glass of champagne, presumably Dom Perignon. After returning the bottle to an ice bucket, he gets his own glass and takes a noticeable sip.

And here are the recipes for the above. Unfortunately all the measurements are in American which is a bit annoying.

Red wine – 4 oz. Serve slightly cooled (55 deg F)

Dom Perignon – 3 oz. Serve well chilled (45 deg F)

Vodka Martini – Ice – Fill shaker
    Vodka 3 oz.
    Vermouth ½ oz.
    Shake until ice cold.
    Strain into cocktail glass.

    Lemon twist - garnish

Rum Collins - Ice – Fill shaker
    Rum (light) 3oz.
    Lime juice 1 oz.
    Sugar (powdered) 1 tsp.
Shake until ice cold. Strain into Collins glass.
    Ice – fill
    Club soda – fill
    Stir gently to blend.
    Orange – Garnish.

To be honest I think the Bond from the films has on many occasion had the wrong marques. But that's product placement for ya. But Stolochnaya vodka? Or even Finlandia? No! Make it Gray Goose or Rusky Standard (st. Petersburg edition).

Today im dinking a Pinot Noir Bourgogne. (always good if you still have some coding to do..)

And for anyone who likes Talisker Whisky, try Tormore. What a Whisky!

Try Tito's Handmade Vodka from Texas. Best vodka I've tasted.
  • Cocchi Americano (aperitif from Italy) is actually closer to the original Kina Lillet than the current Lillet Blanc is.

Very good call. Rusky Standard PlatInum is so smooth it's indecent. Honestly just like drinking water.

I presume you are now either joking, work for Fosters or are Paul Hogan. For those of you who don't live in the UK don't let this put you off visiting - on truth we have some excellent beers.

Not just some excellent beers, Wizard, but a vast and amazing array. I'm fortunate enough to live within walking distance of two pubs, across the road from each other, which between them offer 17 beer engines of real ale. As soon as one beer is off, a fresh one is on. Each visit is like an adventure into the unknown. My wife never lets me out of her sight...
  • Well well well! Look what I made last night!

    2012-02-21201140.jpg

(not 6 of them like Bond in QOS)

    3oz gin
    1oz vodka
    ½oz lillet blanc

one lemon peel (also squeezed a lot of the lemon juice into it- not sure if they did that in the movie... wasn't bad!)

Thats exactly the kind of thing we're talking about. Excellent stuff sir. Fosters indeed - I ask you.

@Master_Dahark, I'm jealous. That looks wonderful. Think I'll have to shake up a few after work tonight. I've been too busy these past two weeks to sit down for a drink and it's time to break the dry spell.

just sitting down drinking some Honey jack Daniels whiskey on ice......this stuff is so good.
Honey Jack Daniels? Never heard of that till now. It's sadly not reached the UK yet. Sounds great though!

    Honey Jack is definitely interesting...

I really can't say that I'd ever buy it. Only tried a bit of it when my friend offered me a shot at the pub a few weeks ago.

Less than two months until I turn 21, but as of now, my favorite drink is Smirnoff, straight. Love it.

Two months 'til you can branch out and have some real vodka, mate. ;)

Edit: Some brands to try: Stolichnaya, Tito's, 360, and Monopolowa.

I'm not really an avid drinker - one of the few of my generation, unfortunately - but I do enjoy a glass of Ballantines, mixed with coke. for me personally, it's a bit to strong to drink "pure", any suggestions?

Talking about Ballantines Finest by the way...

Here's something I just learned that I recommend you all try!

This is a typical vodka martini (shaken of course) made with just vodka and vermouth, but the olives are hand stuffed with blue cheese! 'Blue cheese olives' are readily available at most supermarkets--- but NO. Get regular olives, and a tub of blue cheese, and hand stuff them yourself. Trust me it makes a world of difference!!! A new twist on a classic!

    DSC_0276.jpg

The 'hand stuffing' was something my sister taught me. I thought, 'what difference could it make if you do it yourself?' Now that I've done it, believe me, they are delicious!!

The weather's warmed up quite a bit lately, so my girlfriend and I decided to take advantage of our lounge chairs on the patio this past weekend with a few mojitos.

Here's the recipe that I use:

Toss a sprig of fresh mint into a highball glass and use the back of a spoon to break up the mint a bit against the side of the glass. Put some ice in a shaker and pour in a couple shots of your favourite rum, a bit of lime juice, and a couple teaspoons of sugar, and shake well. Pour the rum and lime juice into the glass on top of the mint and top it with cold club soda and garnish with a slice of lime.

I turn 21 in ten days, and am really looking forward to going out and legally trying out the drinks of the world. As of now, for me, nothing beats regular Smirnoff Vodka.
