Gauging the Personalities of MI6 Community's Members- Take the Test and See Where You Fit!

I've always been interested in the metrics and psychology behind personality tests and how a handful of questions with a agree/disagree scale can so accurately sum up an individual, who they are, how they act and why some of these behaviors may exist. A few years ago I took a highly lauded and viable personality test on a site called "16 Personalities" that uses the latest developments in what it calls "psychometrics" to create a single multi-question test to fit test takers into one of 16 personality groups that they are placed into by how they respond to questions about their emotional state, social energy, personal habits, views on certain life and work experiences and more. These 16 personalities fit into the framework of the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and those who take the test often exclaim that after reading their results they feel creepily understood regarding what the information says about their personality group.

I think the last time I took the test I got an INTJ Personality type, and this time around I got a close brother to that type, INTP, which is short for introversion, intuition, thinking and perceiving. The name the site gives this personality type is "The Logician" and it can be read about here:

I can report that, much like many who take the test, the results were very close to me and I was nodding my head frequently as I went through. I think the INTP results and the explanation of that personality type are bent more towards relating the findings to scientists, programmers and mathematicians, whereas I'm an artist and writer from another world in comparison. That being said, I could easily see how the explanations of scientists and their analytical processes that the results revealed to me could easily be thought of in the context of art and writing, where the ability to think clearly and with imagination are just as viable to writing a story or essay and drawing a creatively fused picture as it would be a for a scientist designing an energy core or mechanism for a certain purpose. The need for imagination and heavy thinking and analysis is vital in both areas and connects those disparate fields. Reading the results actually showed me how the arts and sciences really aren't that far apart in the kinds of people who seek out those careers, as both scientists and artists are motivated by their creative energies and their desire to push the boundaries of what we can do as humans in an imaginative way. They can also be seen as eccentric and different by those who don't get them, outsiders of a kind who want to leave their mark in a definite and original way.

In other areas, the test's accuracy was hard to deny for how it explained me pretty damn well. The INTP's thirst for knowledge, unrelenting search and respect for logic, truth and fact are at my core, and what INTP's struggle with, like social situations, making new friends and dealing with trivial concerns fit me to a tee as well. I'm definitely the type to be so lost in my thoughts and ideas that I can forget time and place, that I can lose a whole day of sleep to work on my creative projects and enjoy analyzing and picking apart films, books and shows to write about them. I'm also more liable to be viewed as an eccentric or loner and misunderstood by how I act, where my anxiety in social situations is perceived as me disliking people and my honesty is viewed as insensitivity. In short, the test confirmed a lot about me and even more why people think I'm a certain way even when I'm not (or not trying to be).

Looking at the other 15 personalities I definitely feel more of a familiarity and identity with the INTP personality, and the findings also connect to the last time I took the test and got the very similar INTJ, meaning that I've been consistent in my personality since that last time. Other INTPs are Leonardo da Vinci, Immanuel Kant, Charles Darwin, Bill Gates and Albert Einstein, which is fascinating, but I was especially interested by how Sherlock Holmes has been pretty decisively argued to be an INTP. He's my favorite character of all time and I have always felt a strong sense of connection to him from the original stories and the various adaptations of them there have been (especially the BBC series), and I can see why. I've always held that our views on truth/logic, our bohemian behaviors and our small but strong friendships (we both have just one strong friend above all the others) were heavily shared traits, but I never thought that the personality test would back up where we connect so well. Bruce Wayne is also supposed to be an INTJ, so that also explains why I'm drawn to that character for similar reasons as Sherlock. I definitely find myself attracted to characters who reflect parts of me, and I guess another side of me is alive in Bond somewhere too, or at least must be, for the trend to continue. We definitely share a sense of loyalty, protection of women, sense of individualism, stubbornness and guardedness. I think Bond would match up well in the ESTP or ISTP departments, so parts of me would be in there for sure with him.


Anyway, I created this thread not just to take the test again and see what my results were, but to invite any interested members here in taking the test for themselves and seeing where they fit into the mix. I think one can come away from the test feeling more vindicated or at the very least assured or informed about who they are and why they may act a certain way or be perceived to be another. The results really do have a knack for explaining you to yourself, sometimes with an honesty that you lack the ability to deliver to yourself, or by how it connects your personality to certain behaviors you never saw a connection to before. I would be fascinated to read the results of some of you and see if the personality I have sensed in you over our time on the forum together matches up to what you are classed as in the test itself.

    There's a range of choices so that the test can give a wider range of results at the end. Instead of just agree or disagree, you can also report if you somewhat agree or disagree or only agree or disagree a little.

    I don't think there were double-barreled questions per se. Some questions had two elements, like, asking if you preferred working from experience or imagination, but it gives you the option of two choices-either agreeing or disagreeing-each with degrees to them. If you agree to that statement full-on it means you favor experience, but if you only somewhat agree you are making it known that you also value imagination and if you only agree a little you are making it even more apparent that you aren't chiefly driven by experience alone. So, throwing in the neutral option, you have 7 selections you could make in response to the question, and depending on what level you agree or disagree you will be seen to favor either experience or imagination.

    50/50 I think. Some stuff they say I totally agree with, but others I'm not too sure on.

    I've been facinated by these Myers Briggs type tests as well, have done this particular test before and have even delved into a few books on the subject as interpretations differ. There was one site / book which made it all clear but I can't remember what it was now.

    I'm type INTJ. Apparently we're big picture systems types and that's definitely how I approach things. Conceptual thinker primarily. I don't necessarily cling to status quo but can work within it if need be. Fits me well.

    It's a good tool if you answer it properly but like a lot of these things should be looked at as a guide.

    Adventurer personalities are true artists, but not necessarily in the typical sense where they’re out painting happy little trees. Often enough though, they are perfectly capable of this. Rather, it’s that they use aesthetics, design and even their choices and actions to push the limits of social convention. Adventurers enjoy upsetting traditional expectations with experiments in beauty and behavior – chances are, they’ve expressed more than once the phrase “Don’t box me in!”

    Happy to Be Who They Are
    Adventurers live in a colorful, sensual world, inspired by connections with people and ideas. These personalities take joy in reinterpreting these connections, reinventing and experimenting with both themselves and new perspectives. No other type explores and experiments in this way more. Adventurers don’t plan their futures in terms of assets and retirement. Rather, they plan actions and behaviors as contributions to a sense of identity, building a portfolio of experiences, not stocks.

    If these goals and principles are noble, Adventurers can act with amazing charity and selflessness – but it can also happen that people with the Adventurer personality type establish a more self-centered identity, acting with selfishness, manipulation and egoism. It’s important for Adventurers to remember to actively become the person they want to be. Developing and maintaining a new habit may not come naturally, but taking the time each day to understand their motivations allows Adventurers to use their strengths to pursue whatever they’ve come to love.

    From their (questionable) list of Adventurers, I'm partial to Éowyn from THE LORD OF THE RINGS. Maybe Kevin Costner. Joss Stone showed up, that's a Bond connection there.

    @PropertyOfALady, I haven't committed all the personality types to memory, but reading some of the Mediator Personality page definitely fits you. An idealist looking for the best in everyone, willing to help someone at any moment, passionate and excited to engage. That's you for sure.

    The Diplomat Personality groups definitely focus on charitable, charismatic and optimistic folks who are altruistic or at the very least always trying to find a reason to smile, and I think that's the only group you could ever end up in after looking at the others. You fit into a group that is probably the most opposite of what my group of Analysts are, which is filled with those who are detached, poor with social communication, and who aren't exactly effusive, charismatic or sunny individuals. It's fascinating then that we are able to get on no problem despite being so different.

    I'm also an Advocate. This ties in with something my boss pointed out recently: that I act like an extrovert, while actually preferring my own company.

    Delighted one of their example Advocates was Aramis, always my favourite Musketeer.
