    A while @Benny

Please, what do you like about it? I'm struggling, I don't even like the score :-(

See I love the score. I find it very well paced. Has a sense of urgency in it. It works for me.
But I love the PTS, a mini movie that has nothing to do with the plot of the film. The last time this occurred. (Although to be fair, it's quite rare to have a mini movie pts)
OO9 being chased by Mishka and Grishka. Very haunting.
The scene set in the Kremlin, where Orlov discusses his plot to take over Western Europe.
The Sotheby's Auction is straight out of Fleming. It's tense and exciting. Well staged and played.
The Backgammon game is a similar scene to the above. Equalling imo the Golf scene in Goldfinger. Bond has rarely been cooler.
Being wined and dined by Kamal Khan, while being told of the torture he can later expect.
Infiltrating the circus, hiding under the train carriage, and learning of Orlov and Kamal's deadly scheme.
The face off with Orlov in the train carriage. Anyone who thinks Roger Moore is a bad Bond need only look at this scene.
The race to get to the bomb is edge of your seat, heart pounding action, that still holds up well to this day.
Capped off by Bond diffusing the bomb, whilst dressed as a clown, as the time ticks down to zero. I know this scene gets a lot of flack. I'm still at a loss as to why. It's a brilliant scene and full of tension.
The plane finale, as Bond clings to the outside of an airborne plane. Stunning aerial stunt.

The action of OP is top notch, knocking NSNA out of the park in comparison.
Great villais in Louis Jourdan, Kabir Bedi and Steven Berkoff.
    Strong leading lady.
    Great supporting cast.
Roger Moore is still a wonderful Bond in this film. (Actually Roger Moore is a wonderful Bond in all his films. Though in AVTAK he's a little too old)
I'd rank OP as one of his best performances as OO7.
Yes, there are a couple of lapses into slapstick, and poor humour. But they are fleeting and forgivable for an 80's Roger Moore Bond film.
If we all liked every Bond film equally it would be very boring being a Bond fan. I respect that OP is not to everyone's taste. But for me, it's still and All Time High.
Did you see what I did there. ;)

    @Benny

Thanks Benny for your response. No Bond movie is without merit but I found OP has less merit than most.

Things that annoy me in Octopussy -

    Tarzan call
The zoom in on the girls cleavage.
HMG lack of concern at Bond losing a faberge egg
    Bond hitch hiking
Bonds casual racism - "That should keep you in curry..."
    Sheeps head for dinner
    Alligator submarine
Gobinda not putting on a parachute
Bond in clown costume and makeup

    And more....so much more. It's a stinker.

The tarzan call lasts all of two seconds.
    What's wrong with some boobs?
It's late where I am so I could be a little tired, but what is HMG?
    What's wrong with Bond hitchhiking?
Different times. Besides, Sadruddin seemed pretty excited by it.
The point of the sheep head is to unnerve Bond.
I'll give you the alligator submarine, but nowhere near as offensive as some other Bond moments.
    Perhaps there were no parachutes?
As has been discussed to death, the clown disguise makes perfect sense given the circumstances and adds so much tension to the scene. I can understand criticisms pointed out in the first half of OP, but the second half is near flawless.

I really like OP. But there are so many silly moments that it is sometimes difficult to maintain the tension that the film actually has. My biggest complaints:

tuctuc chase, especially the silly tennis jokes
The scene could have been so much more intesnse and actually some of the stunt work is pretty great but all the intensity is wasted by the silly humour

    The jungle chase
    see tuctuc chase

The final battle at the Monsoon Palace
see tuctuc chase + I don't like old Q in the field + I dislike the gymnastics + the battle is way to lighthearted

Bond dressing up as a clown before entering the circus
The idea is great but it takes away some of the tension since Bond seems to have the time to put on a perfect make up while a nuclear bomb is going to explode in a few minutes.

All in all too many Indian cliches and stereotypes
I know they wanted to show that this film is about India but the overuse of "Indian elements" annoys me a bit. I mean we have elephants, tigers, sword eaters, snake charmers, crocodiles, snakes, strange food, jojos, tuctucs. It is OK if we have a few stereotypes like in the exotic Q branch scene but that is simply too much.

There's a lot of rationalizing of OP, the 'well if it wasn't for the bad bits' kind of logic. Well the bad bits really sink the film. There's a reason you can youtube OP and see the movie in its entirety.

Not in my bottom five, but yeah, not a great Bond film.

Like Pierce's last three films, they all open well or okay, then just face-plant in the second and third acts.

Goldeneye, though. Enjoy that one a great deal, just outside of my top five.

I too have at least one from every Bond actor in my Top 10 (and not by design either). I think that's one of the reasons the Bond series has had such longevity: every actor through the years has received his share of great Bond films to star in.

SF isn't the most critically acclaimed Bond film for no reason.

I try to shy away from double negatives for reasons of clarity. Are you stating then that SF is the most critically acclaimed Bond film of them all? I'd like to see some verification on that point... Some folks around here REALLY don't like it, whereas I'd say the general consensus on this site is fairly strongly favorable towards CR. (Personally I like them both, but I do acknowledge that there are some flaws in SF.)

On this site at least, I might go so far as to say Casino Royale is the most highly regarded Bond film across the board (even beating out such favorites as FRWL, GF, and OHMSS). I would go banco on that.

Note: I'm not saying it's everyone's #1, but that on average most people would have it in their top 10 or top 5 or whatever.

Just watched skyfall again it's not that bad , I don't get why people top 5 it but I don't mind it that much anymore, it's entertaining and fun. It has a great villain and some good action, it's well shot and directed. I still dislike the story and plot holes as well as some of the cgi so it clocks about half way on my rankings

TBH, rarely am I shocked by people's rankings of the Bond series anymore. However, if I see films like DN,FRWL,GF,TB,OHMSS,TSWLM, GE or CR towards the bottom of any list, then I'm slightly dubious as too how well they know Bond, or more likely their age.
Certain films of course don't work for some members, as they do for others. I still can't warm to QOS for example, and will often place it in my bottom five.
