Have fun. Please try not to show any advance bias against the legendary TB until they've had an opportunity to experience it for themselves.

Yeah I won't I'm very interested to see their opinions
Great. I was just kidding. I'm sure you will be surprised that they may have a different view on the films from you. That's the great thing about Bond. There's always something for everyone. Please let us know how it goes.

@JamesBondKenya, if any of your friends complain about the amazing water photography take the TV remote and bash them over the head with it. It's gotta be done, and I am sure those criticisms will come.

If I were to introduce someone to Bond for the very first time, I'd absolutely have to show DN-GF, OHMSS, and CR.

    Not GE? I'm surprised.

I was trying to come up with more "classics" and not my straight up favorites. I think the first three are incredibly important and classic, and demand at least a viewing. CR is a given, as well, so that leaves my mind jumping to OHMSS for the last one. I could possibly replace it with TSWLM.

Just 5? DN. FRWL, OHMSS, TSWLM & TLD. I was tempted to swap out TSWLM with FYEO, but TSWLM is the most Moore-ish of his 7.

TSWLM is probably the most perfect of Moore's films. The scale, the locations, the way it's shot, the sets; it's the most 60s feeling 70s movie, if that makes sense.

Ok but they seemed pretty onboard during dr no my friend thinks it's the best bond film
The real problems gonna be the Moore era

This is where you may have to bash them over the head with something more prominent than a remote control to make them see the light (again, just kidding - do not try at home & I do not condone violence).

That is impressive. I didn't come around to DN until I was at least in my 20s.

Same here. I found both DN and FRWL to be a bit boring.

We'll see, we're watching frwl tonight
  • That's fine, I know them all pretty well.

Five to introduce a newbie to:

GF, FRWL, TSWLM, GE, CR. I like the idea of trying to show off the variety of Bond interpretations. OHMSS just isn't a good choice for a first timer. Two Connery films? Well come on -- his is the iconic Bond. If forced to show only one Connery in my 5 for beginners, I'd lose FRWL and substitute TLD.

In early 2012 I tried introducing my wife then girlfriend to CR as her first Bond. She couldnt take anymore after the airport scene. She saw SF later that year and somewhat enjoyed it. It wasn't until I popped in TMWTGG about a year and a half ago that she got into Bond because of Roger. For a newbie just see what films they generally enjoy and pick a Bond closest to that.

Too young. One is almost 3 and the other just turned one in January. I'll get them hooked on the films once they're older.

I put the films on regularly and they're around playing with toys and whatnot. But haven't been able to sit them down to watch one. My older loves The Incredibles. Perhaps ill throw on DAD soon as theres plenty of similarities.

I'm due for a Moore film soon. Was thinking either FYEO or AVTAK since they're bottom 5 material but in need of a watching. But TSWLM I think now is first.

U can watch octopussy too, I used to think the Spy Who Loved me was by far the best Moore movie until my most recent Viewing of them both when I discovered my true love is for the film octopussy , and a close second is the Spy Who Loved me

While I like aspects of Hamlish's score, A Barry soundtrack for TSWLM would have been the icing on the cake.

I've done OP somewhat recently. FYEO for me is like the forgotten Bond film. I forget it exists half the time.

If we have to choose 5 I'd say these five make a fine story arc while still living up to great quality:

    FRWL
    TB
    OHMSS
    FYEO
    LTK

Maybe adding TWINE would be nice, although many would disagree.

I watched TWINE the other day and really enjoyed it....very under-rated on here I think....and I might have to review my rankings and bump it up a few places.

    BEST:
    1. Casino Royale
    2. Dr. No
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    4. The Spy Who Loved Me
    5. The Living Daylights

    WORST:
    5. Live and Let Die
    4. Diamonds Are Forever
    3. The World is Not Enough
    2. Die Another Day
    1. Tomorrow Never Dies

    Choosing a bottom 5 is easy - it's choosing a top 5 that's hard.

Fair enough why don't u like TND

Brosnan tried his best in TND after GE - he's not the main problem (although, as is the case with his Bond catalog if you ask me, some of his acting choices didn't help make things better). Even for the Bond series, the entire film is completely over-the-top in tone, far-fetched plot wise, the dialogue is garbage with gag-inducing hack attempts at humor especially, the emotional elements that were shoe-horned in to appease Brosnan fall completely flat, the acting is really atrocious from the secondary cast members like Frobe, Hatcher and Schiavelli and the top billed cast is mediocre at best (Yeoh, Pryce). When you get down to it, for me, the whole film represents the absolute worst of how the James Bond franchise appears to the non Bond fan; it's flashy but so shallow. Arnold's score is good, Q's scenes are fun and there are a few cool action set pieces - but let's just say.... it killed any chances of having many future tomorrows with me.... I don't return to this one very much. haha

I'm reminded that I ranked LALD way too low here.... I returned to it recently and it's actually a movie that keeps getting more and more watchable for me, I should have put down AVTAK in the #5 worst spot. What was I thinking?

    Top:

    CR
    SF
TND (yes really, I love it)
    TSWLM
    FRWL

But I should add I have a lot of love for Lazenby and Dalton's films too.

    Bottom:

    DAF
    DAD
    TMWTGG
    TB
    TWINE
