Craig's beard is trimmed and cared for - the look is totally deliberate this time.
That assumes Craig will wear a beard. Which you don't know for sure. Just as doubleoego doesn't know for certain that Craig will not wear a beard.

In the 50s and 60s, when Fleming imagined Bond, beards where not exactly a sign of gentlemanness, neither were they considered sexy. But we are now half a century later, therefore I find it reasonable to explore the possibility of a bearded Bond, as long as it is not for the whole film.

To beard, or not to beard, that is the question.

Craig is only 2 weeks away from filming. He wasn't wearing a beard a few weeks back. He's grown it for a reason - for Bond 23.

That's proof of nothing. For all you know, Craig grew the beard for the TINTIN premiere. He has got a habit of wearing a beard to film premieres.

If I remember correctly the last time Craig wore a beard to a premiere was when he had to wear a beard for a role.

Indeed. And his character in TINTIN has a beard.

Even if Tintin was live-action, he finished shooting that in early 2009!

I can't wait to find out how you will react once the first spy photos appear online exactly in 2 weeks time - with bearded Craig! :)

Yes. And that photo was taken from the TINTIN premiere overnight.

You really think Craig has groomed the beard just for a film premiere? Yeah, right!

He's 2 weeks from shooting Bond 23. He will also be doing full costume fittings etc. to determine the character's look for Bond 23, as well as rehearing the drama and the stunts, and continuing his tough exercise regime.

Anyway, no point arguing, we'll know the answer soon enough.

But I'm betting from the evidence of the Tin Tin premiere, Bond has a beard for at least some of Bond 23.

You wrote that Craig has worn a beard before to premiers. I wrote that it's true and when he has worn beard to a premier before it was for a role. For example: Craig had a beard to some of the CR premieres at the end of 2006 and the reason for that was that he was shooting the Golden Compass at that time which movie required him to have a beard.

So if he is wearing a beard right now there is a good chance it's for a role. Craig has only one upcoming film that hasn't finished shooting yet: Bond 23.

    He's 2 weeks from shooting Bond 23.
I believe that shooting will indeed begin in 2 weeks but is it really sure? Do you have any sources that confirmed the shooting start date other than UK tabloids?

With the conference planned for late November and a Range Rover delivered to Pinewood at the weekend all signs point towards that date. We have no further proof but I don't think we need any.

James Bond is ALWAYS clean shaven! B-)

Unless he gets in late from the casino (say about 4am) and he didn't have a shave after dinner before he goes the Casino for 9pm. :)

This is very rare, and would only happen if Bond lost his razor, or it was stolen by a porter who thought a £20 tip was not enough for a 4 star hotel. Well, Bond was still annoyed that Moneypenny could only find him 4* accomodation at such short notice so declined the extra fiva in the tip after the porter scuffed Bonds shoe whilst carrying his luggage past him into the room. :-))

YES YES, off topic I know, but I thought I'd go off on one to emphasise how ridiculous the idea of Bond with a beard (unless in disguise for no more than one scene) really is!

And besides, maybe the beard is in there for a reason rather than a whim. When Brosnan wore a beard in DIE ANOTHER DAY, it was because he had been in a North Korean prison for fourteen months. Maybe Craig wears a beard because he has been on a long-term assignment and does not have regular access to a razor or some such.
I had been thinking about this too.

Plus, you have beards and you have beards. They won't give Bond the Santa beard to don, I'm relatively confident about that. ;;)

Um. Can I ask you something?

Why did you call me "Dave"? I'm just asking.
  • In Hollywood the term beard has a another meaning often used by the star's pr/agents.

For example Kate is a beard for Tommy Girl. ;-)

DC having a beard, does this mean we will see another dimension to Bond?

What the hell are you talking about?
  • You know, I'm in the process of growing a beard, say half way there, and there hasn't been any global recognition or anything..

If previous reading is accurate then we will see Bond (willingly) have a full face of hair for the first time since 1962 when the next release comes out in about fourteen months, lot of furore over this from some quarters and some making a meal of it, the main thing here is we will get to witness something that has hitherto been unheard of in Bond history, if you overlook the brief spell in DAD of course, and you can't help but think it goes against everything that went before, but in the present day and age it was only a matter of time before a new element of 007 was introduced

Google? Jeez, it's like feeding a sea anemone without the single cell. I can't openly make the point I want without bringing grief to mi6? OK put it this way...Elton John was married to a woman once but he liked men but his PR agent said why don't you use a beard (his paid wife) to make people think you like women. And of course this works for female stars as well.

    Honestly?

I won't care in the slightest. I'll look at the photos with interest, of course, but I won't be too bothered if none emerge. I don't obsessively scour them for whatever tiny details I can find from them.
