Cheap sets continue into Felix's house... It's made out of cardboard as Bond, and TV actress number-whatever-on-Threes-Company stumble through and "drunkenly" almost assassinate the wedding cake. Tim's good.TV actress is Tv actress...

When I was 15, seeing this film for the first time, I actually wondered why Felix's wife was kissing and flirting with Bond. And, thinking it's Bond, I wondered, damn, is Bond going to bang his best friend's new wife (that's not an exaggeration, I just didn't get what Felix's wife was up to.... I still don't... She totally wants bond, right??)

When Killefer visits Leiter and Bond, he does enter like Larry from Three's Company doesn't he?: in the door, punches Bond and says he's "here to kiss the Bride" and leaves...

Later: "we're not going fishing on MY honeymoon"-- cue laughtrack..

Sanchez being loaded onto truck (something M:I6 would copy)... And Davi is the only thing good in this scene full of extras...

The dancing sequence at Felix's crazy wedding party... it isn't even 80s TV quality bad... it's 80's no-budget-filmmaking-in-a-buddy's-backyard bad...

But planting Bond's out of control lighter was great....

That's the most Unbondian moment in a Bond film.

Sanchez's escape is quite well done... but, the handcuffs he wears-- were they fake? Or does he have super-strength?

Yes, I like the reference to Bond's marriage... and Kamen's sad music... Why does Della sound like Madonna doing a faux-Brit accent when she asks, "Did I say something RrrrWrong"...

Felix and Della finding Sanchez's men in their boudoir is unsettling-- but Felix and Della are still in Three's Company Land...

Come and knock on our door...............

I like Priscilla Barnes, though it was kind of odd seeing her in a Bond film. I remember Jenilee Harrison appearing in some episodes of MIKE HAMMER, thinking she might have been better suited for the role. Then, along with Don Stroud, we'd have two MIKE HAMMER alumni in this film.

Milton Krest is appropriately slimy and works nervously well against Sanchez's cool demeanor.

LTK takes a nasty turn with Felix being fed to the shark (and he realizes how badly he's been played (by Killifer))...

I love Dalton-Bond's reaction upon hearing about some "big drug dealer's escaped"...

But HATE when he finds Della...

But like him again when he finds Felix (and a note left on him that was influenced by LALD the novel)... And Kamen's music is good!!

    Time for bed...

    cont'd L2K:

HONESTLY! The cop investigating Leiter's assault??? Where the hell did they get that smurf?? His tuff-guy "you stick around (as he taps Bond's chest), we might have some more questions for you, okay?" Sounds like a bad actor from the 30s. Who is this guy?
TLD was only two years before??

    And him talking about chain-saws...

And the hospital scene that rolls in next?? The back of a doctor "I wish I could be more hopeful, but we'll hafta wait and see", in the deadest possible way. Did they cast coz he's got white hair???
... They really killed the budget, didn't they??...

TLD was only two years before????

Dalton's a little too theatrical with the "Well FIND him"...

Agent Johnson from Die Hard is even more OTT than Dalton-- "let it go Commander"... Tv acting at it's finest... you speak, then I speak, then you emote, then I emote.

I don't blame Dalton. This was just bad directing (pedestrian), and writing; two guys at odds, but no motivation to BE at odds-- wouldn't a guy who knows Leiter agree with Bond about "other ways"? Would he be like, "f*&^% yes, there ARE other ways. Lets do them!"... So these two being at odds is false and the actors depict how false this is via performance.

"NO I'M NOT GUNNA FORGET ABOUT IT

Bond accuses Agent Johnson of being on the take-- a thread that goes nowhere, specifically about an innocent man...

Dalton Bond is great bluffing his way into Krest's marina... Seeing Leiter's bouquet... and, as he returns that night with Sharkey, is where this poor Bond film starts to elevate.

Kamen's music is very strong... Sneaky...

Question: why was the Wavecrest/Sharkhunter II going out? That's never explained outside of making it a plot device: Bond and Sharkey sweat coz they may get caught... the guys going out on an expedition leads to nothing...

Once again, Dalton Bond's reaction to puppet shark is solid...

And now he gets into the Krest warehouse; Kamen's music is wayyy better than the other non-Barry peeps during this scene. He has classic and modern nailed, as Dalton sneaks about...

    "Hold it"

Daltons A+ reaction-- i'm fucked. Gun to head. Hands in maggots...

Ugh, not a very strong punch from Dalton here-- looks like something from the 1930s... He swings back with his elbow. I can probably say that this one punch he gives this guy, is the worst punch in Bond history, unfortunately...

The flip though, almost makes up for it... Almost.

I do like "Bon Apetit".... that Dalton/Connery/Craig... they don't need the other stupid lines. Seriously!!!

Dalton reacts strong again at the pursuing gunfire and Killifer's eventual, "FREEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. OVER. BY THE TRAP DOOR. OLD BUDDY..

So Dalton did well with taking out Kilifer coz we didn't see what he actually did, we only heard it... But Dalton fixing his jacket like he did was sooooooo not cool....

His coldness at dropping Kilifer and the money into the shark pit was bad ass. Screw you, bad actor! Jaws will eat the rest!!!

I think I've read members complaining about Bond not shooting Whitaker in the body... But Whitaker is wearing body armour...

It always irritates me that he obviously shoots and hits bulletproof glass, then proceeds to empty his entire magazine into the exact same bulletproof glass.

Agent Johnson (no, the other one), comes to visit Bond again to visit him to Hemingway's house...

Yes: Great. Scene. I like Bond breaking the rules, and M letting him...

On the wavecrest-- Milton Krest/Zerbe is an amazingly seedy drunk-- out of Fleming. Lupe looks the part, but "GET. OUT." doesn't work...

    The 007/Mantaray... love this...

Boarding the Wavekrest sequence is all awesome... Bond killing the first guy like some monster from the 50s-- the music, he springs up and submerges the poor bastard...

I love when Bond opens the air chamber. Sees the money. Gets an idea...

Bond visits Lupe ... what a second meeting, right? Sticks a knife to her throat "Make a sound, and you're dead"... Then he grabs a clump of her hair.

    I love this.

But the '89 audience had Moore only 4 years earlier-- and they had him for 12 years!!! Who was this bad ass (a Bond that tried to closely resemble the real-deal, that's who)....

Yes Dalton does well all in black clothing and shadows... And when he see Sharkey's corpse... uh-oh for the bad boys...

The harpooning of a villain? Timeless-- thank you L2K! Thank you!!!

Bond stealing the oxygen tank of the man he just killed? Thank you L2K! TU!!

The fight with underwater henchmen? TUUUUU!

    The waterskiing behind the plane?...

    Priceless...

I have nothing good to say about the Pam Bouvier/Bond/Bar fight scene.

Other than Del Toro was there...

I don't mind, however, Bond making a deal with Pam as they start to get intimate on the boat... This isn't the sexiest scene in Bond history, but it's a far sexier scene than after Hinx's murder...

Yes, I find Dalton kissing and laughing with Pam more realistic than Craig and Swann hooking up with desperation...

One of THE best set pieces they've ever staged, and not just action for the sake of it.

In honor of Sir Sean's birthday.............

    NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN

Controversial opinion, I prefer this theme song to the Phyllis Hyman tune. I just can't picture that song playing over this teaser style opening.

Connery looks the business in his olive green jungle attire.

The Connery head butt predates the Tim head-butt.

Bond is getting reamed out by M.

I like Edward Fox' obnoxious version of M.

    It's Scrooge's nephew! Great actor-Michael Medwin.

Barbara Carrera is my favorite Bond femme fatale................next to Luciana Paluzzi.

Max Von Sydow, though isn't my favorite Blofeld................well compared to Waltz he is.

Max Von Sydow could have played Dracula, especially as described in the Stoker novel.

The shot from Fatima's night vision binoculars I vividly remember in the cinema - especially as she gets to Connery's face in close up. I remember thinking he looked cool as a much older Bond.

Bond strangled by Lippe. Connery's pain face here rivals Pierce's.

We need to get back to the Bond pain face. Craig needs to up his game in B25 and give us a pain face moment we can joke about for years. Roger didn't have one, but his OOOORROOOHHHHHH more than makes up for it.

Pat Roach with his curly hair and beard kind of looks like a truck driver.

He probably could have played Rocky, the trucker bully in SUPERMAN II, had Pepper Martin been unavailable. I don't think I've ever heard him speak, though.

"YOUR SEAT'S IN THERE, FOUR EYES!".

If he could thrash Indiana Jones, and Bond he could surely take on a powerless Clark Kent.

His look, though is very of that time. I can remember guys having curly hair and beards back then.

Speaking of Superman bullies, here's Gavan O'Herlihy.

    Great character actor.

    JAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!

    I love Barbara Carrera!

    BRAAAAAAAVOOOOOO!

Was he dubbed in Indiana Jones?

The NSNA version of the SPECTRE missile hijacking scene is better paced than the TB equivalent. The score for that scene doesn't measure up, though.

Bond is surfing the internet looking up Maximilian Largo's Facebook page. He becomes distracted by Largo's female "friends" and is compelled surf to the net for porn when Moneypenny comes in and interrupts, so he quickly closes the tab.

That's how that would play had NSNA been shot today.

'Going down...one should always be relaxed."

The "going down" part of that line was cut for ABC, as was the middle shot of Fatima here. Other than that NSNA was left pretty much intact for the ABC network airings.

Bond is now chased by a shark. I like the bits inside the wreckage. He's surrounded by sharks here. All real.

Ah, Valerie Leon! One of my favorite Hammer horror beauties!

    Bond is wearing here dungarees.
Fatima changes outfits then plants a bomb in his room...............

Bond keeps his shoes by the bed.

Bond is having a nice time here with Valerie.

and now we get one of my favorite Leiters.

Connery's blazer, striped tie and gray trousers look like something Roger would wear.

I love Bernie Casey. Great actor.

Alongside Jack Lord and Hedison he's my favorite.

I have grown to appreciate Basinger's Domino much more that I used to.

    I love the motorcycle chase.

I got a bike for Christmas the year NSNA was out. A friend of my grandmother had bought it for me. It looked quite fancy for a kid's bike and very Bondian. I remember my dad saying "Now you can ride around the neighborhood like Sean Connery in NSNA!"

I was surprised (and glad) my grandmother's friend didn't pick a bike with training wheels. I mentioned that and my dad responded by saying something like: "You don't need training wheels. Sean Connery didn't have training wheels! "
The industrial neighborhood we lived in really wasn't that great for bike riding as a little kid. There were, however a few empty parking lots where my dad showed me how to ride. Fun times. Kept that bike well into my adult years when I finally gave it away to another young kid learning to ride. I doubt he was inspired by the NSNA motorcycle chase, though.

I love the Palmyra escape. The laser watch is one of my favorite gadgets. Black metal clasp. Roger had a cool watch in OP as well that year.

I'm kind of tired of Bond plugging Omega. Wasn't there a bright blue Omega Bond watch recently? It had an awfully bright blue band or something? Too loud for 007, IMO. I'll take this simple looking NSNA watch over that.

Bond, Domino and horse dive over the wall. Connery is funny here.
    "HOLD ON! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!"

This is the intact version that shows the poor horse land on it's back. I think they were dropped from about 15 feet actually on a build platform above the water. Someone online there's photo's of that being filmed.

Bond loses his jacket shoes and socks.

I really like the underwater cave set and climactic battle. It doesn't measure up to the volcano or supertanker, but I find it more Bondian than, say the SP boat/helicopter chase ending.

The underwater fight with Largo is a bit weak, though.

Overall a solid viewing of NSNA to celebrate Connery's big 88.
