Just YouTube the Swedish Made Penis Enlargement scene from the first. To this day I cannot get through that scene without hysterically laughing.
  • And also at the end when he's being choked by Random Task and still insists it isn't his and says so through gritted teeth. :))

I recently treated myself to this beautiful notebook, which I intend to be seen with in public places:

The cast returns once more for a Super Bowl ad:

Please give me a fourth installment already.

I loved the ad. But tbh I think the nostalgia is good enough for a 90 second ad. But won't be enough to carry an entire movie.

I think the thing that holds it back for me, and probably why he doesn't appear in the ad, is how Austin Powers would work within the current climate. Probably not something people want to hear but Powers, while a funny character, is a certain kind of character.

Dr. Evil was appearing on SNL and other talk shows too instead of Austin.

Dr. Evil is just a funnier character that has more staying power. Also, he works better as mouthpiece to discuss things like politics, social issues, or the environment.

I don't really remember if I wrote something in this thread during the past five years (and didn't feel like checking before writing this), but I haven't really missed re-watching any of the Austin Powers movies. All of them suffer from a far-too generous serving of toilet humor, though to different degrees. The first one was half-way funny, the second one was (IIRC) slightly better, because it stopped this pop-art intermission nonsense (or what you want to call it). GM was subterranean in that (fart/poo-poo etc.) regard, in fact cringe-inducing for me.

The best indication that I didn't really like the Austin Powers movies (except for some funny quotes that satirized the Bond films) is that I like the Johnny English films a whole lot better. All three of them. And I couldn't stand, nor endeavoured to watch more than once, Mr. Bean before because I found him particularly unfunny (and never saw any of that Black Adder bit). But Rowan Atkinson did more things right here than Mike Myers did.

Looks like it could be a lot of fun but could equally be cringe and not worth six entire episodes. I love Myers, though, so I'll give it a go at some point. I really just want another Austin Powers before it's too late, even if a fourth installment might not work as well in today's world.

Myers does walk that fine line, if its utterly stupid I will be happy. I have not had Netflix for several months though as a fan of Myers I will likely re subscribe.

Rewatching Dean Martin as Matt Helm, it fascinates me how much inspiration AP took from MH as well as from JB.

I'll have to check out Matt Helm sometime. Austin Powers definitely took more from CR '67 than from any of the other 60s Bond films. Austin Powers' appearance and mannerisms in particular are modeled on Peter Sellers in that film.

And Derek Flint I think, though I haven't seen that one yet.

Oh! That reminds me that I recently watched The Tenth Victim (which stars Ursula Andress) and it was very apparent that Mike Myers was a fan:
    • The main character is involved in a photo shoot for a product called Ming Tea
    • Someone gets gunned down by a gogo dancer with guns concealed in her brassiere

My flatmate and I yelled "MACHINE GUN JUBBLIES!!"

Here's another: Smashing Time, whose cast includes Michael York as...a swinging Carnaby Street fashion photographer!

I could teach a film course on 'Influences on Austin Powers' :)

Give me anything new from the series and I'd be so ecstatic but I'd really love to see Austin Powers 4.

Coming back to this ad, I thought it would be funny if they had Austin Powers enter his lair through a giant door with a “IV” on it, and all you see is his silhouette or something, purely as a joke with no real intent to make a fourth film.

EDIT: Or maybe he comes up in an elevator and you can see the floor ticker, “1… 2… 3…” and ends on 4.
