He said we are still working on the screen play, they haven't finished yet.

Apart from the screenplay not actually being finished, I'm feeling pretty optimistic.

There's enough time I'd say. I think they might be done by January. Just a hunch.

The most interesting part of that interview is that B25 will follow the events of the last four films.

    Indeed.

There was plenty of chatter amongst Bond fans that Eon may use Fleming's YOLT as basis for the story and Shatterhand has been revealed as the working title.

Considering Fukunaga's heritage as Japanese-American, perhaps this fuels speculation further as he is yet to make a film in Japan. Maybe this aspect sold him to make Bond 25?

I think it makes sense to make YOLT. You can wrap up the Craig-era appropriately and many of the books themes to do with mortality and Britain's ailing world status are very relevant today.

I find that disappointing and discouraging.

Agree. I was hoping for a standalone mission for once.

I expect that won't happen again until after DC is gone, in all honesty.

Yeah, I know it sounds unlikely for a standalone mission in the DC era. One of the reasons why this era is my least favourite so far, unfortunately.

I would prefer a standalone mission for sure. They can bring characters back (Leiter, Madeleine, even Blofeld if so desired) but I hope it's not going to be yet another story about Bond's past or whatever. His parents' house was destroyed, his half-brother revealed not quite dead, ... Lest they sacrifice what little credibility is left, it's all the same wisest, I believe, to throw some fresh logs in the fire rather than attempting to burn the ashes. Give Craig his Goldfinger, please. Simple, fun, unforgettable.

I think Cary meant to tie up all the loose ends and still make it a standalone film .

That at least sounds like something I would definitely welcome. :)

I am glad for all of that. And yeah I'm happy Bond 25 will follow the arc of Craig's tenure. With the right script, that will be appropriate. I thought ever since I learned Cary was the director that he would be overseeing, and helping with the script - perhaps a good deal. But he is a great storyteller and I find that reassuring. I'm not concerned about anything at this point. It will get done on time, and with respect along with some aspects that are fresh. For even just one aspect - what Cary comes up with visually - I am quite eager for this film.

As far as being based on YOLT, it may be to an extent, but I do not expect Bond 25 to follow that explicitly.

    Thoughts about this interview:

-I love that AVTAK was Cary’s first Bond and it lett a good impression. Some inspiration from that underrated Bond outing for Bond 25 could be nice (a power couple again especially IMO).

-“As in any story, a character has to change in order [to have] a narrative.” Hopefully this doesn’t mean Bond himself changes too much.

-As for continuing from a CR arc, I wouldn’t read too much into it. Craig’s Bond has changed just a little bit in each of his films. We could just as easily get an SF-type film without much connections to the other Craig movies as a direct sequel to SP.

-“We haven’t finished the screenplay, so there is no way that anyone could know that. Those are two extraordinary actors, so if there is space for them in the story, I would absolutely want them there. But I don’t know yet what it’s going to be.” This is interesting. It leaves the door open for Blofeld (and Q, but he’s a lot more expected), but certainly is no confirmation or denial.

-Glad Cary is thinking about the action and locations (among probably other classic Bond elements), but is prioritizing the story. He sounds excited about it and I’m happy about that.

A standalone Bond film is what I’d want most, but if done well, I think a YOLT adaptation could be an amazing way for Craig to go out too. They mostly botched Blofeld and SPECTRE in SP, so a direct sequel is a little more concerning, but I’m going to stay optimistic whatever direction they go in will work out. Still lots of questions and interesting stuff ahead, but I get mostly positive vibes from this interview.

What I read from this is that the main villain hasn t been fleshed out yet.

Cary is being tightlipped, which is appropriate. He may well have a great villain in mind, but he's not going to let out anything about any characters at this point.

It could of course mean that Blofeld will take a backseat if included, and that Spectre s involvement may or may not be decided upon.

Personally, I feel that Blofeld/Spectre should not be a main factor - even if YOLT inspired. I bet that Cary (and his scriptwriter/s) can give us a good story with or without Blofeld, but mostly I think a great script is possible for Bond 25. And not a totally predictable one. Which is good. He was being tactful about whether certain actors return or not. I think we can see by now that Cary is tactful, gracious, and skilled at interviews. I think he won't give up any info until he is good and ready and EON approves (when to release news on actors, etc.). We may get info on locations earlier, of course, which would be great fun to know. AND if we leave Blofeld/Spectre until the very end of the film, only hinted at ... that sets up the next one, with a new lead Bond actor. Just my thoughts on that.

"Continued on from the first four films" could really mean anything. It could be as connected to Spectre as Skyfall was to Quantum of Solace. They might just be carrying a thread over.

I thought he was talking about the character arc?

Anyway, I like the multiple mentions of Japan in this article. Go back to Fleming, it always works!

Yes it can mean many things, including just that as an arc that means the character undergoes some kind of change. It cannot stay static; that is boring. So Bond could change, be altered slightly or a lot (from his experiences leading up to Bond 25).

Since Cary is of both Asian and Scandinavian heritage, it would be nice to see both reflected in Bond 25.

For some reason the article isn't popping up for me to read, Oh, well. I do hope that there isn't too much invested from the previous Craig films in this one.

I have a hunch if it is the title, we're still not getting an adaptation of the YOLT novel, and the title will refer to something completely different.

You know I would dearly LOVE for Bond to be in Japan, even if just a little, for Bond 25 and I'd really like somewhere in Scandinavia, too. I don't get tired of having lovely snowy locations in a Bond film.

It says that this time it is personal and for the first time we get a strong independent girl who is Bond s equal. The past comes haunting Bond, and there is a traitor within his midst. Very new and refreshing.

I love snowy locations in the Bonds as well. I feel they've been all too brief in later films: GE, TND, QoS and SP.

I feel optimistic that perhaps Cary can utilize his locations well as to create atmosphere. For instance I love the use of the Alps in OHMSS. That films has an amazing ambiance in terms of the Switzerland setting.

The "this time it's personal" and the Bond girl actress stressing how her role in THIS Bond film is so different from other Bond girls because she is strong and a match for Bond ... well, that is all tradition now, @Thunderfinger. ;)

Yes to snowy locations - I like contrast with the locations in a Bond film. I prefer a few, some variety, with whatever landscape could provide real tension and awe as we near the final scenes.

They still haven't locked down a complete 100% screenplay/script and likely don't know who the villain is??? This actually looks like a sequel to spectre if waltz may be involved. Interesting.
