If they're going to delay it, then just can the film, recast for a new Bond, and get a proper movie out in 2020.

This + a thousand times more.

    And get some new writers!

Deadline have confirmed that Purvis and Wade are developing a new sctipt that incorporates elements from their treatment and Boyle/Hodge draft

Deadline also confirm that Bond 25 will likely be delayed once a new helmer is announced.

Not confirmation of anything as far as I'm concerned.

    From the article:

Purvis and Wade are reportedly taking elements from their treatment and Boyle’s script and working them into a new movie.

The pic’s release date remains unchanged for Nov. 8 next year, however, many believe that will change once a new helmer emerges.

But, you know, a headline is a headline.

Can't one source publish a story without assuming that bond 25 will be delayed sounds like with combining both their elements and boyle/hodge's elements the film can still make it on time
  • "Bond 25's release date is unchanged" won't get you clicks though. "Gulp, it might be delayed!" has a better chance. ;)

I wonder if Eon could manage to not divulge anything until they have a finished film. Would be funny to read Headlines like, "Bond 25 delayed until 2021, Craig quits", and then a month later see a Trailer for the film :-)).

Agreed about Arctic Monkeys. They would deliver a stunning Bond tune.

As for the director, considering the circumstances, IMHO Bart Layton seems like the best choice of all the mentioned candidates.

In an age where we know far too much about films before we see them and I simply can't stop myself from soaking it all up beforehand -- I would love this more than anything. :D

EDIT: Almost more than anything. It would be a close second to David Arnold's return.

If film is releasing on it's schedule then they already have a director who is already working on a script with P&W/BB/DC. They may be waiting for the right time to announce it.

    Quite possible

Glad to see at least some elements of the Boyle/Hodge script are being kept - hopefully all the best stuff. I do really hope we don’t get an SP sequel though.

If film is to be delayed they might have already announced it and since they didn't which means we are getting Nov 2019 release on time which means they already have a director by my assumption.

That wouldn't surprise me at all either.

Campbell was in place prior to Craig being selected, was that generally known at the time?

I'm glad too. It's highly unlikely B25 will be a direct sequel, but with P&W writing I'm sure the movie will be more in line with the previous Craig movies, compared to what would have been with Boyle onboard.

Mabey there should make teaser where Ben Wishaw welcome ''new'' Bond directer on set. 14 October 2018. Ben Wishaw and Roger Moore birth day and month.

Or take Michael G Wilson in Skyfall ending copy of with pleasure.. where Directer will replace Bond and said: With pleasure M, with pleasure.. Sam Mendes is back.

Or Bond knocks on the back of the new Bond car and said time to get out.. Directer steps out.. Marc Foster is back..

They need to get Arctic Monkeys in before the ship sales.

Brilliant idea - not only would they make a killer Bond theme, but it would satisfy a specific person's dreams of having an A. Turner working on Bond 25, only not the Turner he had in mind. ;)

I guess "in talks" can still mean they are talking to more candidates than just Layton?

Killer Bond theme? The Killers then? Or the Gypsie Kings? Nah, that was Mr Bullion back in 2006 demanding calypso for CR. bigthink.gif

Purvis and Wade? How original! As long as we get a script polisher like Paul Haggis etc weay get a semblance of a coherent film. No way do I want them butchering the script on their own.

You prefer your scripts butchered by committee?

If he doesn’t want to direct, why not hire Christopher McQuarrie to just write the story and script.
  • Ok. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are back!! What about if this ends just like it started??

Written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and Paul Haggis. Directed by Martin Campbell

Oh yes, many of us have called for them to “ put the band back together”, the CR team, including Arnold. It would make a fitting bookend for Craig’s era.

EoN really need to detach themselves from Purvis and Wade. Seriously.
Why? Purvis and Wade are seemingly the only writers who actually know Fleming very well. Of course they also write according to demands from producers or directors, so we can´t blame them alone for some content. If they lack in certain areas, have the script polished by someone else. But I see no reason to drop P&W altogether.

Why? Because they're stale. I don't care how much Fleming they know, the fact is since they've come on board they've pretty much recycled the same tired tropes for every film. I doubt they're the only writer's on the planet that know Fleming. EoN need to step outside their comfort zone, pony up and really look and invest in committed writers who can more importantly tell a gripping spy story. Purvis and Wade fail for the most part in this regard and them knowing all there is about Fleming obviously isn't helping matters. What they've written is nothing that any competent script writer couldn't have done. EoN need to detach from those guys and really invest in better writers.

How do you know that Purvis and Wade aren't constantly writing their scripts within the constraints (the tropes you mention) put on them by Eon itself? Chances are that's exactly what happens, in the main. Plus, most of the Bond scripts in which they've been involved have been kicked-off by them and polished by others or ends up a result of their own contractually-obliged on-set rewrites, meaning what ends up on the screen isn't often what P&W originally envisaged.

Fundamentally, screenwriters aren't solely - or often even primarily - responsible for the regurgitation we all experience in the storytelling of modern blockbusters. In the end, it's the people who put up the cash who are most responsible. Because it's their money that's being spent and they're the ones who hire and fire - so it's them who put demands on everyone creative who works beneath them (directors included, of course).

You speak sense. If not P&W, the producers would get someone else who would meet their story requests. P&W at least have proven themselves capable of developing an interesting plot, and they always start with and return to Fleming. Be careful what you wish for.
