Yeah, he’s by no means an obvious choice, but he’s clearly a talent and a storyteller.

I just saw the documentary The Imposter and it was really well made. His first feature film American Animals received favorable reviews.

Yes to Bart Layton, I was most impressed with The Imposter and are seriously considering importing the Region A Blu ray of American Animals.

EoN really need to detach themselves from Purvis and Wade. Seriously.

Well EON do seem to take a lifetime to put these films out these days. But I suspect even that isn't long enough for P+W to pull together a decent script. I don't think they have it in them. Their writing is tired, cliched and boring.
Can't argue with that.
I can see why EoN would want to play safe now and stick with Purvis and Wade.

Maybe the two of them could collaborate with Horowitz going forward. Then there could be the possibility of his novels being the basis of future movies.

I have been saying this for a while, but I never thought about Horowitz doing an adaption of his own books. If they want to reboot after Craig, then there is no better option then Forever and a Day. Just keep Purvis and Wade out of it. It's clear that their hearts aren't in it, with quitting after Skyfall and saying quotes like the Bond Villain is a reality with Trump. EON MOVE ON FROM THEM PLEASE! You're only hurting yourselves. End rant.

    Three things:

    1. If Hodge was writing a script based on the treatment by P&W, then why weren't they mentioned in the May press release? Any idea, @ColonelSun ?

    2. You know who would have absolutely no problem writing a great Bond script? Yes, Christopher Nolan.

    3. My message to Barbra regarding BOND 25: [link]

Plus, P&W "Shatterhand" treatment was described like a OHMSS remake, a direct sequel to Spectre. Things change, but I don't see P&W coming up with something "sans Fleming material" with a title like Shatterhand (which was confirmed to be given as a working title by the production).

I can't see them coming up with a "sans Fleming material" either. So far the only Bond movies which had absolutely nothing from Fleming's novels was Tomorrow Never Dies (aside from Bond, M, Moneypenny and Boothroyd) and GoldenEye (some have said Sean Bean's character and his schemes may be loosely based on novel Drax).
    Escalus5 wrote: »
Aren't P&W the two clowns who said they couldn't write a Bond script in the Age of Trump?

If I were EON, I would have shown both of them the door after that statement.

And they're the same who suggested movie Goldfinger might have worked for SPECTRE (does it even make sense? What would SPECTRE gain from Goldfinger's plan?).

Happy to take this to another thread, but in the scheme of the Craig era, couldn't SPECTRE actually already be considered the loose OHMSS remake? Bond falling in love, making a deal with the love interest's father, Alpine set pieces, Blofeld confrontation, rumored "We have all the time in the world" line being cut from the film's final scene. I'm just trying to figure out why this "OHMSS remake" language has any legs at all in the current discussion.

Indeed, I said the same things a few days ago. If anything, Bond 25 might be based on Fleming's YOLT and focus on Bond hunting and killing Blofeld.

Nice to see this thread open again, and wonderful that @ColonelSun has rejoined the discussion. Cheers!

Just a few quick observations and questions that have been nagging at me.

    - I'm happy to see Neal and Rob back on the project. They're very knowledgeable Bond fans, first and foremost—and (in my own personal and humble opinion) excellent writers who seem underappreciated by the collective fanbase for all the work they've done on 007.

    - Related: being a writer on these projects is an extraordinarily difficult job. Writing a great feature screenplay, on its own, is no easy task. Add in all the external influences, requirements, and direction that one is forced to factor in and you're facing a veritable riddle of a creative assignment. Mad respect for anyone who completes it, let alone repeats it.

    - Related again: Neal and Rob, in particular, seem to absorb a lot of heat related to creative choices that were not—as verified on the record, in some cases—theirs.

    - Specific to Bond 25, one thing I'm progressively feeling is that the collective discussion is really taking on certain assumptions as if they're fact. I feel like we could all attempt to course correct here a bit.

Example: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's been a single reliable report from a legitimate source about Neal & Rob's work being an actual OHMSS remake, a SPECTRE sequel, etc. I don't think we genuinely know a thing that could be considered verifiable about Bond 25's story at this point, other than what might be inferred from some of the leaked casting details. And yet we seem to speak with such certainty about it. "Most odd." ;)

    - One of those Bond 25 'rumors' in particular makes no sense to me. This phrase "OHMSS remake." Happy to take this to another thread, but in the scheme of the Craig era, couldn't SPECTRE actually already be considered the loose OHMSS remake? Sorry for the long post. But there's been plenty to think about of late!

Agreed about OHMSS/SP. The title "Shatterhand" is already out there in an industry publication, so if B25 is based on Fleming, it's more likely to be YOLT.

Has Cullum got an album to promote? No way he’ll ever do a Bond theme.

They need to get Arctic Monkeys in before the ship sales.

It would be really special, I think. Between AM, TBHAC and his Shadow Puppets work, you just know the sound is there. Turmer is also a Bond fan. I can’t think of a better band/artist who balance quality/commercial viability, which is essentially what they’ll be looking for.

Indeed, plus he (Turner) knows how to write decent lyrics, as well as catchy tunes. Just have them spend a few days in the studio with the composer of choice, and we'll have something on a different level to Writing's on the Wall.

I don't understand why P&W keep getting this gig. There are countless brilliant scriptwriters out there. Is it a lack of imagination? Inerta? A creative impasse? I just don't get it. We so need fresh blood!! Bond is looking like a tired franchise. It needs a gigantic kick up the arse.

    This.

This is really lackluster news. Willing to give the new film a chance, but constantly letting P&W write/edit films will hurt the franchise long term.

Let's get it on with then. At least we can 100 percent guarantee something fresh next film...

That would be fantastic! Turner's side project The Last Shadow Puppets features heavy use of string sections of course, but never a full orchestra.

This is very interesting to me. Lotus is publicly challenging Aston Martin for a spot most assumed was already given to AM. Perhaps they are truly creating a car for Bond25.

Also just of interest to me. Layton mentions being a Roger fan and specifically the Lotus scene on the same day that this is published. Just a cool coincidence

Would they develop one in order to entice producers? Like they did in the past with TSWLM.

Deadline have confirmed that Purvis and Wade are developing a new sctipt that incorporates elements from their treatment and Boyle/Hodge draft

Deadline also confirm that Bond 25 will likely be delayed once a new helmer is announced.

Update: Justin Kroll at Variety has also confirmed that Purvis and Wade are writing a new script. However, Eon are looking to hire a writer-director to polish their work,
