That's not true, man. They knew Connery would only come back for one more. I saw it in a documentary.

It was a decision made midway through production that Connery would quit after YOLT. When they made DAF, it is my understanding that it was a two-film contract that he never ended up fulfilling.

Honestly guys, I don't think it being Craig's last is as big a deal as people think. That rumour was out there for SP as well (helped along in no small part by his comments prior to the film's release). It's almost a bit of deja vu, but this time with a more positive spin.

Ultimately the film will stand on its own. It will either soar, be seen as mediocre, or be seen as disappointing. As with anything, we won't know for sure until a few years have passed.

One thing I'm sure of: if B25 is his indeed his last, the chance of it being a 'high' are less likely because the inevitable marketing push will be to presell and market B26 as something really special, particularly if it will be an anniversary entry. The hype train will be off the charts.

I think he signed for one Bond, with United Artists agreeing to finance non-Bond projects, but only The Offence got made.

There is an interview that Connery said during the filming of Diamonds where he flatly says he "only came back for the one," meaning Diamonds. The clip is in the documentary Inside Diamonds Are Forever, which is included on home video releases.

    This is correct.

It was DAF plus a two-pic deal, with, as you say, only The Offence being made.

Granted this is internet trivia, but according to IMDB and 007james.com...
Sir Sean Connery turned down the then astronomical sum of five and a half million dollars to play James Bond. Connery gave Sir Roger Moore his personal seal of approval for inheriting his role, calling him "an ideal Bond".

Take that for what you will.

Sean was right imho, although I'm quite certain many will disagree.

Pretty much nothing's there, mate. We're on ground zero. Other than Craig returning and a November 2019 release date, we don't have much of a highlighted news.

Having just rewatched the entire James Bond franchise, Sir Roger Moore might now be my favorite Bond. He is the most malleable actor in the role, striking a brilliant balance between suave, camp, vulnerable and serious based on what the film called for. Without diminishing their strengths, I'm not convinced any of the other James Bond actors could obtain that degree of adaptability.

While a good choice, even Villeneuve cannot save Bond 25.
No matter who will end up directing Bond 25, it's pretty much guaranteed the movie will be better than both QOS and SP.

What? We are absolutely NOT on ground zero. You need to start reading between the lines, mate.

While not directly related to Bond 25, the Bond movies as of today are made available in 4K on iTunes.

On the idea history says a Bond actor's last will be a weak one: Craig's final mission might be BOND 26. Or 27.

Martin Blank: Don't rush to judgment on something like that until all the facts are in.

Well, no matter how much disagreement we all have over the treatment of Bond in the Mendes era, it seems to be nothing compared to the $#!t storm over the portrayal of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi. Even Hamill is weighing in, and it's not good.

TLJ is awesome - die hard fans (I'm not one) are disappointed because they've spent the last two years pontificating on the internet, creating a mass sense of expectation of what they were expecting to see - leading to inevitable disappointment - perhaps there's a lesson there for us as we await Bond 25.

There’s nothing wrong with expectations and when a film doesn’t meet them but rather does nothing and plods about for 2 hours then has a shitty climax and a terrible end for other characters, then it’s a bad film

The thing is not all of us share your view on TLJ, it's not fact it's your opinion.

I'll take TLJ far over SPECTRE, it was a travesty.

Bond 25 will be on par with Skyfall but wont fall into Casino Royale critical acclaim IMO. its hard to close out with a critically acclaimed final installment.

If they bring Spectre back, I can’t see why they can’t reveal the real Blofeld, in shadow, at the end of the film and introduce dialogue stating that the other chap was just a smoke screen and even subtly allude to the fact that Waltz’s character was a psychopathic liar, in reference to the stupid backstory we were fed in Spectre.

We don’t even need to know that it was Spectre behind the plot until the end of the film. Of course, this could all be done in Bond 26. Bond 25 could certainly be a stand alone. If the film has a good plot and characters with well executed direction, it doesn’t really matter who the villains are, as long as Spectre isn’t in five Bond films in a row... :)

It’s not that you can’t do that, it just comes across as a little bit hackneyed and an admittance of making a mistake on your previous movie. Not to mention it would mean even more retrofitting - the very thing most SP critics single out as one of its major flaws.
