  Watching FYEO, why doesn't bond pull the lever to destroy the atac and get back to the surface with the short air supply, rather than faffing about disarming it to bring it with him only to throw it off a cliff at the end

  Bond's mission was to retrieve the ATAC, not destroy it.
  
  He destroys it at the end because its his only choice, as he says, they cant both have it.

  This is a relatively new inquiry, but I've heard tell that in Goldfinger, Auric is actually wearing a gold SPECTRE ring on his left hand during key moments, like the poolside card scene and when he's telling Bond about his Fort Knox plan later on.

  I don't have the time right now to put in my Blu-ray of the film to see if this is a clearer observation to make in high resolution, but I'm curious if anyone has found reason to believe this "legend"?
  
  I know it's often said that Goldfinger is the special villain unconnected to SPECTRE in the 60s films, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service may even hint at his fellow conspirators on the Knox job being Draco's men, and not Blofeld's. Most confusing.

  @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, just happened to check. But, the way it looks sculptured under the sun beams, it isn't a SPECTRE ring. At least, that's how I see it.

  I love reading stuff like that, because it's the perfect definition of "stranger than fiction." My best friend told me about Jack Churchill years back, and I thought he was making most of it up, as he's a storyteller by craft. Imagine my surprise when I found out the man and his legend was real!

  My Grand Uncle was part of that. He hid in an outhouse while the Germans were looking for him. they never caught him, so they took his younger brother, my Grandfather, instead and put him in a labour camp.
