    Always thought M was a bit harsh on Bond, I mean it was Carter's mistake that led to the embassy etc. In Bond's own words, 'holster the bloody weapon Carter we need him alive,'

    I suppose,as the senior officer,Bond is ultimately responsible.
    Also it was probably the destruction he made all over the place,and the diplomatic incident he caused by entering the embassy and attacking the staff.

    I am sure Carter never worked for the service again, that much is certain. How he even got to a qualifying position underneath Bond's command is far more puzzling than what happened to him in that pit.

    The James Bond Encyclopedia list his status as "Dead, bitten by cobra" or something to that effect. It was either implicit or there was a shot that was left out.

    The mystery persists. Our next step would be contacting the agent of the actor who played Carter and inquire from there. Anybody got the connects for that sort of thing?

    He is doing a lot of theatre and acted opposite Matthew McFadyen on stage ,and also in a series of 24...on WIKI it shows he has his own website and is on the IMDB ...so to contact him via his website will be easy,go onto WIKI and follow the link ...i went on there via Casino Royale and scrolled down to the cast.

    Never heard this answered.
    How long do the films take place?
    Like are each of the movies set in a week or two? Or months? I know some of the movies like Die Another Day for example show Bond being captured and tortured. The film obviously takes place for months but some of the films appear to only be a week or two.

    We obviously never see Carter's fate, so it's unclear. He's just a background noise that's not important. Is he dead? We don't know. Is he alive? We don't know. The script doesn't say anything, either. So, it's pretty much Fate: Unknown.

    Unless we're talking about further extensions of the franchise, in the video game, Carter survives and aids Bond in his fight with Mollaka's terrorist goons who appear to have been also hired by Dimitrios.
