Cars pulling out of side roads so that they are half a length in middle of the main road and they expect you to brake suddenly and let them in whilst you have a truck behind you who won't be able to stop in time. Grrrrrr.

Yes, I've had that happen to me too. People are quite mad.

    Middle-class people.

One way or another they think they're better than everybody else. What's worse is that they have no idea how transparent they look to the rest of us. A good example of this is Totalbiscuit on YouTube. He will lecture his audience on the correct way to pronounce "issue", but he is constantly using words like "Blimey", "Sodding" and "mate". Sorry, that's not allowed, and it just shows how transparent you are. If you want to put on your high minded "holier than thou" act, be my guest, but you can't then turn on a dime and start pretending like you're the salt of the earth as well. Class isn't a buffet where you get to pick which bits you like and forego any baggage that might go along with you're decisions. Pick one.

That's what grinds my gears the most.

When you're busy emptying your brain on a manuscript you'd write, and suddenly someone out of nowhere decides to converse with you on a subject that couldn't be more stupid at the time, leading your brain to end up in confusion and lose all the information you were supposed to put in black and white. That feeling is damn annoying.

Also people who don't use indicators and/or get in the wrong lane, on roundabouts.

Makes me wish that Q-Branch had fitted out my car.

People who want to pass you and fail to realize that this requires them to continue to drive faster than you. Instead they end up traveling right beside you, or worse, they pull in front and then slow down. This is especially irritating when you already drive over the speed limit.

Also, people who don't understand that you have to apply more pressure to the accelerator when going uphill to continue at the same speed.
  • People ahead of you who enter the freeway at half the freeway speed limit, forcing you to also attempt merging at half the freeway speed limit.

Similarly when a row of cars are driving the same moderately slow speed across all lanes, creating a perfect wall to prevent anyone from passing.

trying to watch Olympic beach volley ball and diving but the tv producers are employing the Elvis the Pelvis rule. This is really grinding my gears. (lonely M likes going for walks, loves cheese. uk)
  • Drivers who hate motorcyclists like myself. Every now and again I'll still get someone beeping their horn at me or trying to cut me off when I'm (legally) filtering. Equally, drivers who use roundabouts, change lanes, etc, without signalling, and (rarer but I have seen it) people who text or do anything on their phones (apart from hands free calls) while driving.

In response to the whole PC thing, I agree some take it too far but what annoys me more is the genuine bigots (including those who don't realise they are) who hide behind the "PC gone mad, can't say anything these days" mentality. I think there's a real danger of downplaying real social issues by brushing it off as "SJWs" bitching about nothing. Yes there are some instances of people getting offended over nothing but that doesn't mean we should ignore how much prejudice still exists in the world today. A large part of it is probably just human nature sadly but there's still more we could do to combat this I think simply by being less tolerant of it.
  • I find it confusing and very sad that fighting for social justice has somehow become a bad thing. All I can really do is leave this superb clip from Stewart Lee on political correctness:

Stewart Lee is a great comedian, but he is wrong in this case. Everyone is wrong sometimes. Social Justice is cancer.

Completely agree. For some reason it now has negative connotations it's come to mean people getting offended over nothing (and like I said above, genuine bigots then hide behind this, "I'm not racist/sexist/homophobic/etc it's just pc gone mad") and while there are instances of this, I think that too many people forget that political correctness is, by definition, a good thing, and that we all absoloutely should fight for social justice in whatever way we can.

Indeed. The whole notion of political correctness and social justice having gone "too far" is absurd. In what way has it gone too far? Gay men are still beaten to a pulp on the street, 20% of the population still live in poverty, and we are still governed by an aristocratic elite.

Admittedly there are a few nutters on twitter complaining about cultural appropriation, but the reality is that we live in a deeply unfair society. An effort to redress that fact should not be met with disdain, particularly from those who have never needed social justice.

Amazing. You can't even define what social justice is, despite it apparently being a "cancer".

I can, I'm just not going to. I've seen this trap before. You want to defend your silly ideology, you provide the definition.

Sure thing. Social justice is an effort to reduce inequality in people's life chances and opportunities. If that's not good enough then here's what Google has to say :

"Justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society"

You'd have to be a peculiar character to disagree with that. Anyway I'm off to bed, cheers mate.

Very well said. I've spoke to people about this before and I've found it difficult to get this point across but you summed it up perfectly. And just ignore Mendes.
  • @thelivingroyale So political correctness is by definition a good thing?

What do you think is politically correct in North Korea?

Political correctness has nothing to do with being polite; please read 1984 to get an idea of what it's like in US and British universities, and remember that these will become the next leaders of their countries.

Some years ago a nurse was struck off just because she referred to the title of a well known Agatha Christie novel.

PC is thought control masquerading as good manners. Oh and it also hides behind 'social justice', which usually means black people playing the victim card. That stat that says 1 in 12 black men of working age in the US is in prison must be down to racism right? Luther King would be ashamed of the self pitying nihilistic violent culture pervading many black communities right now.

Problem with that is how do you create wealth? Socialism does not create wealth, it redistributes existing wealth. Capitalism creates wealth. Capitalism requires a meritocracy. A meritocracy means having equality of opportunity. Equality of opportunity is anit-Social Justice.

So there you have it. Social Justice = no good.

Precisely. It's inherently collectivist and authoritarian.

Exactly. And It is pro censorship which is a big no no in my book. Bad things happen yes, but it's not because someone says something stupid and potentially insulting. I used to be bullied all the time in school. You know what? I grew a thick skin and brushed it off.

Yes. It is. And that you do not understand it is unsettling. I could explain further, but a closed mind is a terrible thing to argue with.

That is the correct attitude to have.
