Daniel Craig says he doesn't want to do another Bond; Spectre may be his last

I really do hope now that Craig does 1 or 2 more so the whole Elba affair goes away. If they recast for Bond 25, the media is making such a deal about Elba that whoever is cast instead of him will be seen to them as a second choice.

This happened to Dalton - when everyone thought Pierce was going to be cast.

This happened to Dan - when everyone thought that Clive Owen was the odds on favorite.

So it happens again, and will continue to happen, because the media likes to create drama and controversy where there is none.

Elba's busy working on the new Star Trek movie which isn't due out until next year. He'll never be Bond. I wish he would stop being brought up. It's getting pathetic now.

While I agree, I wouldn't say that the new 'Star Trek' would hinder that, as filming will be done in the former half of next year, and they won't start shooting the next Bond until (at the absolute earliest) late 2016, I assume.

Rumor has it he's playing the villain or a big role so he will be hindered for a while.

But the movie is out in July. Even with debuts and press junctions, that would leave him free by the end of the year.

Late 2016, BB + MGW will have finished counting their dollars or dusting their mansions or whatever.
Maybe, m a y b e, then they will start thinking about the next Bond movie if we are lucky.

Anyone who believes the next movie will be out before 2018 is delusional. I'd even wouldn't be surprised if it would take them 4 years again.
  • Craig sounds like he simply can't bear thinking about Bond 25 right now. Like being asked what you want for dinner when you've just had lunch!

George Miller basically had the same stuff to say when constantly asked about a Max Max sequel: it's like he'd "just been through labour", and they want to know when the next baby's coming. Definitely doesn't mean he's not returning to the Wasteland and I'd think the same about Craig.

Dan said similar after CR and QOS after Skyfall he said he had been trying to get out of it since he got in. He's a wynd up merchant. But hey if Spectre takes close to a Billion at the box office do you come out and say yup I'm doing another. No you say you don't make the studio pay big to keep you. Willing go my mortgage on Dan doing 1 more. I think Mendes will as well. Mentally and physically drained it's the last thing on their minds but give it a year they will be both chomping at the bit to go again.

Maybe you should be a little more grateful that these people actually control the franchise. The alternative could be quite unpalatable.

Yes quite a ludicrous comment. They have been great custodians of the Franchise prior issues were MGM problems not EONs but after Spectre MGM will take production back in house and Sony unless they make MGM a ridiculous offer will be cut out the picture. This will hopefully speed up times between films.

This shitting all over EON is getting tiresome, anyone would think Cubbys off spring had driven the series into the ground, what we've got at the moment is nowhere near the generic tribute act we had between 1995 - 2002.

    To set the record straight:
BB + MGW did everything right up to 2006. I still think casting Craig was a mistake, he was already too old (38) for a rookie 00 agent and the reboot thing was an idiotic idea.
Nevertheless they did everything else perfectly, cast, director, music, etc.
    Casino Royale is their legacy.

Then everything went wrong. QOS never should have been allowed to happen the way it is. And Skyfall is such a disappointment in the writing department.
And they still have the same ole P+W writing the scripts...I wonder why they still have that job. In any other production company they would have been sacked long ago.
The 3 year gap between SF and SP is inexcusable, especially because we all know it only happened because BB once again had to have one of her darlings doing the movie (Mendes).

Simply put: BB + MGW had their times when they were young, fresh and good.
That was up to 2006, since then they have tunnel-vision, no ability for innovation, they don't recognise obvious problems (writing issues) anymore.
They should retire or they will bury the franchise. Especially when BB is alone at the helm which inevitably will happen.

The alternative could be unpalatable yes. Do I want Disney to take over the Bond franchise? I don't know, they can show us now what they are capable of with Star Wars.
I don't see why giving the Bond franchise to another production company should automatically get negative results.

You never know with BB. She might go for a 45 year old actor because she wants to make Bond even more "self-doubty, deep, melodramatic and angst-ridden" and show him in his middle aged phase.
She has already proven, she will cast anyone if she likes him. So if she likes Tatum Channing as she likes Craig, we will get Channing as the next Bond.

Why are you so....against the current Bond producers?? I actually admire them.

Elba is too old! Assuming DC stays on for another which i fully expect, he will be 50 when the cameras role. Elba if lucky would only have managed 2 movies at best. This simply will not happen.

SF got Oscars, the first time since I believe 1965. Craig got critical acclaim and was even talked up as an Oscar contender himself for CR. Babs and MGW rejuvenated the franchise to near-'60s levels. Bond became culturally relevant again.

    They're doing something right.

Considering where we were with the Brosnan era BB & MGW got there act together but our friend thinks that was better, generic tribute acts are obviously his thing.

I try my best to remain polite at all times, and that's been put to the test on many occasions, but that's just pure and utter bollocks.

I often wonder if people know how difficult film production is? Merely producing a film is an incredibly difficult and relentless process. Producing a 'good' film is borderline impossible. While we all sit and criticise, which we're entitled to do, let's not forget the infinite jigsaw that lies before every production team when they begin the process.

We are blessed to have the solid stewardship we enjoy. Even if one were to think the Brosnan era is poor, as many keep harping on about, the level of production is top, top notch. Taking into account the plentiful pitfalls of film production, to say we have 23 infinitely watchable films (IMO) is quite incredible.

"Cubby" would dance with joy if he sees what their daughter and stepson have been doing to the franchise. And the family saga continues, as Michael's son Gregg is gradually taking over now he is associate producer (similar to what Barbara did back in the 1980's):

By the way, it's pretty frikkin' unique that one family company still keeps this movie franchise going. Marvel doesn't have that. I'm following the man Gregg Wilson now for quite a while, and he also has a really interesting hobby, as you can see here:

Well I certainly don't expect everyone to agree with my opinions.

But the worship towards BB and Craig from many here and at the same time being totally uncritical to what EON has given us since 2008 is as shocking as some of my opinions may be.

And of course, always the billion dollar argument and of course the Oscars!

CAN YOU SAY AVATAR. Oscars and box office has nothing to do with the quality of a movie.
