I'm tip-toeing into this thread because I am hoping to avoid major spoilers (like when a friend of mine write to be hour before I saw Skyfall to tell me that M dies). However, I have one nagging concern over the SPECTRE trailer. This may have been discussed already and I glossed over it to avoid spoilers, but: Doesn't it seem like Bond has a long-lost brother or childhood friend (in the burned photo). A friend/brother who becomes (possibly -- I haven't read the spoilers) Blofeld. And if so, isn't that the underlying plot for Mike Meyer's Dr.. Evil. (Austin and Dr. Evil are brothers). I sincerely hope this isn't the case; it would feel silly given the Austin Powers reference.

Don't worry its not ..just scroll through the leaks thread. Not brothers possibly same guardian but according to the leak freaks (said in a loving way) its minimalized.

Well, no one knows the future regarding to that of the franchise apart from EON. Didn't everyone expect Brosnan to do his fifth Bond at the time? But, we were proved to be wrong later. So, you never know...

Well, DAD had jumped the shark and the series needed a fresh start. Moreover - correct me if I'm wrong - Craig has signed a contract for a fifth, whereas Brosnan only had an option; Barbara Broccoli said she wants to keep Craig as much as they can, something I doubt she ever said aboit Brosnan. Lastly, Craig is a much more popular Bond among the public (and this is said by me who regards Brosnan as the best Bond actor).
Barbara wanted to stick to Brosnan. It was Sony that fired him and suggested a replacement. And she did say that several times if I recall correctly. A fifth Brosnan Bond was highly expected.

If the plan was to reboot the series and do an origins story wuth CR, keeping Brosnan a 50 year old Brosnan around wouldn't have made sense nor worked.

In the beginning, it wasn't. The first draft had Casino Royale written with Brosnan in mind, I am sure some of the articles can confirm that. I still have to get my hands on that script if it's found anywhere. Then, with Brosnan going off the rail, some of the key members I know have said it was just rewritten with a neutral view on Bond, until Craig was cast, and they reworked on the script for the last time.

While I do agree Brosnan should of done a 5th film with out a doubt (not Casino Royale tho). In fairness to Barbara and Eon they didn't owe Brosnan anything after DAD. EON fulfilled their commitments to Brosnans contract which was 3 films with an option of a 4th. Barbara had every right to do what she wanted with the Bond series after DAD. Eon wasn't contractually obligated to give Pierce a 5th Bond film.

Well, that's another story, what could have or should have been done. That isn't my point. My point is, Casino Royale started off with Brosnan in mind. And it was Sony who arranged the changes, Miss Pascal that is, not Barbara. The producers only went with the options they had, because half of the Bond film rights goes to MGM, and that company is owned by Sony since the early-to-mid 2000s.

yes a CR reboot should have gone to a young OO
Bond, much like Fleming's original story.
There was no need to do a becoming 007 story.
The story was about a young OO and his life-changing experience at Royale.
    What could have been.

Bond 25 will pick up where SP leaves off, as part of a two-film arc. Assuming SP breaks SF's BO numbers (and I think it will):

    Craig is back.
    Waltz is back.
    Mendes is back.

This time, it will be a summer release, for the first time since 1989. In 2018.

Since they're filming 24 and 25 concurrently, I'd have thought they'd go for a 6 month or 12 month interval. Two and a half years seems extreme to me - especially given the overlapping narratives. Are you sure?

they're not, they're only filming SPECTRE atm, the two film shot back-to-back was only an early rumour.

I think it's more likely that Mendes will return than him not coming back for Bond 25.

I too have a feeling that Mendes will do three. I know officially there is no
Story arch, but I think Mendes has a plan in mind for these characters. ;)
    Nothing but a feeling. :D

I once saw an interview with Sam Mendes shortly after he was announced for Bond 24. He was asked why he returned and he said his usual stuff about developing the characters and that he liked the direction of which it was going, but he also said another reason why he returned was that the original plan was to make 24 and 25 a two parter, but that plan was scrapped in favour of his return. This explains how he was and probably still is not willing to commit to two more Bond movies, let alone ones that are being shot back to back. I highly doubt he's changed his opinion. If I were you I would get used to the idea of Chris Nolan doing the next one. He's the closest thing to Mendes and was being seriously considered for SPECTRE.

Off topic but I thought Babs didn't really ever like Broz and that it was the producers that decided the change and unceremoniously booted Broz for a new actor. They decided to go back to basics after they decided they went as far as they could with OTT DAD.

If I remember well, for the first 2 years after DAD the only big rumours were about Brosnan. When he will be announced as returning, etc. The first major rumours about a new Bond actor didn't come until 2004. So it seems EON were not 100% sure about recasting straight after DAD.

It was Sony that made the changes, not EON.

After Craig's number of injuries during shooting of Spectre, it seems that he won't return for Bond 25. I do really like him, he is the best Bond actor in my personal opinion, but at the same time i also admit that it is the right time for him to get retire after Spectre

He's been injured during each of the films, it's what comes from him putting so much into the role. I don't think it'll affect his decision either way.

Exactly. In fact he injured himself a lot more during QoS tHan he has for SP. The guy is committed. He's exactly the sort of actor these movies need.

Exactly. Craig's most serious injury was indeed on QOS when he was about 39 and had to have rotator cuff surgery. As noted, he's been injured on all his Bond shoots because he does most of his own stunts. His age will not be a factor in his decision to do B25. The only thing I could see keeping him from at least one more Bond is if Spectre fails at the BO.

Didn't Craig slice off the tips of his fingers on one of his hands in QoS too?

I think it was just his pinky or index finger but it grew back before the film premiered.
