But without the script leak, would we have known that the guy Bond was chasing in Mexico was called Marco Sciarra. And without the script leak, would we have known that Bellucci's character (in Italy) was related to the man Bond is chasing in Mexico?

But the Sciarra characters and actors were identified on Imdb at the very least. I think press reports identified Marco for sure. The Sciarras were revealed via normal channels, of that I am sure. Even one of our members, I noticed commented about Bond bedding the widow of a guy he had killed, and this member is not privy to leaks.
A good barometer though is @marko. He knows everything that is out there via "normal" channels, which quite a bit, but he hasn't read the leaks.

@smitty I only followed production of both QoS and SF ahead of time, and I found it enhanced my viewing. That's why I am right on top of SP. As much as we figure out ahead of time, nothing replaces seeing the film for the first time.
The thrill is in seeing it all come together. How all the familiar photos and looks get edited into a tight film. I only do this with Bond, so I've got every other film being made to watch fresh, so there is no shortage of such experiences.
But Bond, I like to learn as the film is being crafted, so I do thank those who diligently stay on top of production. The leaks are just bonus.
Following along is akin to help working on the project and then sitting back to see how all the hard work came together.
When I first saw Fields on screen in her trenchcoat, and Olga in her orange top and skirt outfit in QoS , I sat up straight in my chair, eager with anticipation to see how,the now very familiar images would play out in the finished product. I'd been gawking at those pictures for months. Now they were finally coming to life. Awesome experience.
Now with leaks, we also see how dialogue might play out or even evolve. ie the White cabin scene.
If others want to stay spoiler free, that's their call. Fully respect it, but I'd be quite happy if Mendes sent me the dailies everyday with his commentary. ;)

I agree with your thoughts on this, which is why I am still following the leaks thread. I haven't read the script, so the dialogue is one part of the film that still remains mostly a mystery for me. I was really happy with the outline as it seemed to emphasis, finally, a Bond on a mission film and I'm thrilled with Lea's casting. I have high hopes for this film.

This is going very weird if I have to worry about spoiling someone in this thread :) But let' say that your comment shows there's still a world between following "all the info" and "reading the screenplay". Because
"Bond on a mission film", SPECTRE is not...
. This spoiler is only for smitty, open it at your own risk !

timmer, I think you underestimate a lot the difference between "not being surprised by" and "actually knowing". It's easy to watch a movie and keep on thinking "I knew that !" or "Told ya !". But here, for once, we actually know something.

@suive I think you understimate your own powers for obtuseness.
We get it. You believe there is still very much in the screenplay that has not been revealed yet.
    No f*#@ing kidding. :-B
But I also believe that it is becoming more difficult for people to remember whether what they know, comes from the leaks or from what has got out there via "normal" channels.
Not complicated. Just a simple observation.

My big concern with the plot for SP is that we will have SF2. I think Bond needs to remain an enigma so I don't like a plot with lots of emphasis on Bond's childhood and any drama associated with it. That is always my fear about Mendes who is a drama guy. That's why I've been happy to see what appears to be an extensive amount of action sequences. I was also unhappy with the almost totally lack of Bond/Bond Girl story line in SF and QOS. So the outline that I read lead me to think SP's plot would correct these two major issues that I wasn't happy about in SF. Am I on the wrong track here? Hope not.

I've gone back to the script since reading the trailer and noticed some small changes, which is why I've never been bothered about reading the script because the film isn't gonna be exactly like the way it is in the script. It probably is mostly correct but small things will change. Like the way Bond deals with the mercenary who helps Sciarra into the helicopter and the fact that before it seemed the fight between Sciarra and Bond happened inside the helicopter whereas now the main fight seems to happen outside the helicopter with them holding on.

I'm still wondering how Sciarra's death will be done, considering it's quite a gruesome death and would require some special effects.

I'm thinking they don't need to show us the gory bits. There are ways to convey his demise without actually showing it. That said I'm hoping for something in between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Captain America: The first Avenger, both feature propeller kills. Most likely they might do something like in TND, where they also had a chopper with CG blades.

On a side note but still related, just finished reading Benson's The Facts of Death and in it one goon gets pulled into a cruise ship rotor leaving a huge cloud of bloody red bits in the water, and not to mention that moment from OHMSS, both in novel and film. I really hope they find some way to make Sciarra's demise work as scripted.

  • Hey script readers, I wanted to know who you think the guy sitting at the other end of the table is at the SPECTRE meeting? as we know Waltz is seated underneath where Bond is standing?

    No idea.

Not everyone sitting at that table is mentioned in the script.
But they are all random SPECTRE agents.
Some of them will speak, some not. That's it.

It is not specified in the script, where everybody sits.

I'm not sure Bond is above Oberhauser. There's also two henchmen left and right of the guy at the center of the image above, it could be him, his face come out of the shadow at one time, etc. it could be him. And well, this is a blockbuster, I don't expect much misdirection : this guy is important, according to the direction of that scene :)

They could be filming these scenes while Daniel is absent from the set:

When Moneypenny's enters her office and discovers a gift from Bond
When Q discovers the DB10 is gone
Scenes with Moneypenny in her apartment - when she is talking with Bond in the chase
    Nine Eyes voting
When Q sees Bond's whereabouts and lies to M
M and C in CNS Building scenes
    Q in Horatio Hotel
Scenes with M, Moneypenny and C in The Foreign Office
Scene with M, Q and Moneyppeny in the Italian Restaurant
Scenes with M and Moneypenny in Car in the finale - this will probably be filmed on a green screen background

He is. It mentions so in the script and Oberhauser has a door behind him which the guy in the picture above doesn't. Plus Oberhauser has two guys by the door and two guys seated next to him. I think this guy in the photo could just be one of the people who stand up.

Well, I just re-read it, and if I'm not mistaken, in the December script that I can't quote here for copyright reasons :), there is no door specific to Oberhauser in the script, and Hinx is sitting at the far end of the table (opposite to Oberhauser then ?). Also it is said Oberhauser in the end looks upwards to Bond.

But note that in the script, it is said he is on a throne (however, I'm not an English native speaker so I don't know if "throne" is litteral here). We already know that obviously there were some little changes between this script and what they're filming, ie : the different clapperboard numbers.

Plus all second unit work with stuntmen.

Bond is above Oberhauser because he looks upwards towards Bond as if he's turned around and looked up, plus Bond throws the henchman on the table directly in front of Oberhauser and Oberhauser moves his drink before he lands, meaning Oberhauser would have to be directly under Bond to be able to do that.

... or Bond would have to throw that guy very far to the other side of the table. haha ;-)

Here's a question for everyone who's actually read the script: How would you compare Spectre to Casino Royale and Skyfall? It sounds like the script presents more OTT action pieces, while also being moodier and bringing in a more serious romance between Bond and Swann. Is that accurate and does it pull it off? Where do you think the final film will end up on your rankings of Craig's other Bond films?

I definitely think it's more Bondian than the previous ones. As people have noticed each film is getting more and more like the Bond we know and love, yet still keeping the tone they set up when they rebooted the franchise.

I think the romance between Bond and Swann will be better judged when seen on screen and how it's portrayed. It could definitely come across serious but that may just be because we haven't had a proper Bond girl who survives till the end and is a love interest. Of course, we had Camille but she didn't feel like a love interest as much. Also, I'd have to rank it after I'd seen it on the screen. The way I see it is, if you look at each Bond script, you could have said Bond had a serious relationship with any of the main Bond girls.

The film, to me, is top notch especially after the re-writes but I feel it'll be even better when you see how it's actually been taken from page to screen.

Where do I think the final film will end up in my rankings? That I can only tell when I see Mendes' work.
He could make a stunning movie from this script, but he could also go in a different direction. I don't mean content-wise, but the mood of the movie is not written down in the script.

Knowing Mendes, I believe, it will turn out being more Skyfall than Casino Royale.
The romance between Bond and Swann seems not as serious as with Vesper. They have romantic scenes like getting drunk together. But otherwise she's more a normal Bondgirl. You don't really get to know what Bond really feels in this film. I wouldn't say he's in love with Swann. But I'm extremley looking forward to the whole Morocco adventure.

With Swann it's less changing Bond's feelings, but more changing his thoughts.

When I say "normal Bondgirl", I mean, Swann is the kinf of character in the movie, that has to be saved by Bond on severel occasions. She's not an ass-kicking-Halle-Berry-side-kick-girl.

Coming to the action-scenes: in reality none of these would work out for Bond. So yes, they are over-the-top - a lot! The way he escapes collapsing buildings, sliding on their roof-tops. In the script it reads like a Legolas-scene from LotR oder The Hobbit. :-)

It's such a shame we won't be hearing the official one for a while. From what I can remember, Adele and Skyfall was announced and released around a month before the release of the film? But it was easier with that because we already knew she was doing it.

Bond can't move over to the other side to throw the guy over because there isn't a balcony on the other side. I think the image above is after Bond has moved closer.

I think @MadeleineSwann is right on this one.

I don't want to spoil or anything (ive read the script), but just to alleviate your concerns,
I did not get a SF2 feeling at all from it, there isn't really too much about his childhood, and there is a great bond girl role, like comparable to vesper and tracy.
Whether these things translate onto the screen is another matter, although there is a very capable team
