    I think warner bros have confirmed man of steel will lead into Justice league. Thing is warner is at loose ends at the moment financially without potter a cash cow for 10 years and Batman ending for at least 5 years so there desperate for there superhero movies to be hits so they have rushed Justice league i think. Disney has more cash cow franchise then it can manage thou lol.

    It will be interesting to see if the news is true. Wonder Woman would be an interesting cameo.

    My best mate and I talk about this Justice League film a lot, and we both hate the idea of having Batman in it. He is the best of the lot, obviously, and he is guaranteed to appear since he is the big cash cow for Warner Bros. as you said, but it just doesn't fit Batman's character. He is a loner, and not a big team player. I feel that given the choice between handling something alone or in a group he would choose the former. He is a hero that fights in the shadows, not out in the open. Criminals fear him because they are scared of what they don't see, the myth that Batman has become as he claims Gotham back from the crime world in the deep cover of the night. It then seems foolish that he would fight with other heroes in broad daylight, and ruin the mystery, but that's just me. He is the only one without superpowers of any kind and just seems out of place in a team photo. He seems to me to do everything his way and wouldn't want to follow the others into what could be a worse solution. And we all know that Batman always has the most pragmatic plans in the team. I just picture all the heroes at the table discussing the distressing plot of some villain, and Batman is standing far back in frame, away from everyone else and looking down at earth, the place he should be. Batman does great with Dick, Tim, Barbara and Jim, because they use his methods, there is years of trust there, they are handling only Gotham's problems and not the world's, and they aren't super-powered beings. When you try to take Batman and have him surrounded by super-powered titans going against these outlandish universal foes it just gets a little hard to take. I find Batman to be grounded more in reality than any others, hence why this idea makes me uncomfortable. It's just not what I see Batman doing, that's all.

    Back on topic and totally ignoring "Film X performed better at the box office than Film Y did," I'm incredibly happy about how much money SF has made thus far. Great time to be a fan of James Bond.

    Yes, its good after all these years to see that the Bond franchise, can still make a huge impact.......i mean other franchises come and go, and have there moments, but for a film series to be going so strongly after 50 years..is well, just incredible!......and thats why we love it...........correct?

    @mepal1, absolutely. You and I haven't seen eye and eye recently, but it's nice that we can agree on that: 50 years and 23 films in, and we still manage to reach such landmark numbers. Wonderful news.

    It's still playing on 456 screens, the figures haven't been reported yet that's all. The final day will likely be Thursday 7th February, so two weeks of figures yet the come.

    LATEST BO UPDATE

    As of Thursday 'SF' had grossed an estimated $44.7 mil in China.

    Therefore, by my reckoning, and excluding other markets 'SF' must be somewhere around the $1090 mil mark...........that is a shed load of money!

    ..........and up another place in the worldwide list i believe!

    Film should soon pass $1.1 bil :)

    $1.1 billion by this Sunday should hopefully mean it can get that last $25 million to end in fifth place over the rest of it's run. :D
  • Another update of the 'Spy/Action Movies-list', know with the China-figures included. As of January 30th 2013, 'Skyfall' is only a few days away of beating that other huge box office success, Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

    I was expecting $90 Million from the China box office after its run there. But now the first week gross in China is known -an incredible $34.4 Million- that prediction might be a bit too careful.

    Besides agent 007, it is perhaps funny to notice that 'Taken 2' managed to overtake another Christopher Nolan directed Batman-movie. 'Taken 2', starring ex-Bond girl Famke Janssen, now stands at $374,187,209, compared to the $372,710,015 from 'Batman Begins' (2005).

    Note for the reader: Take in mind that for, more or less, accurate comparisons, most of the below action/spy movies are produced in 1987 or later. Actually, most of them were produced after the 1990's. All movies in this list are 2D movies!

    Furthermore, I have updated the list in such a way now, so that you can also use it as a 'watchlist'. Movies with a '▪' are part of a spy/actionhero movie franchise. Movies with a '▫' are rebooted movies or remakes. Movies with a '∞' are based on previous tv-series.

    Going back to 'Skyfall'......the Thunderball-esque box office craziness has severe implications for the 'All Time Box Office'-list from BoxOfficeMojo.com (Yes @Suivez_ce_parachute, I am still using BoxOfficeMojo as a source. Because do you actually know how much work it is to update the entire list down below? Moreover, if you can see it as 'approximate figures' then it's not necessary to prove 'this' or 'that'. Have some fun/passion about 'Skyfall' ;-))

    Because the newly published Chinese box office figures are in place now, 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' is starting to lag behind a bit on 'Skyfall'. 'Skyfall' will keep rising on this list and it now has a good chance on ending 5th now, getting rid of 'Transformers: Dark Of The Moon' (2011) and 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' (2003). This will then be a unique achievement for a 2D-film, with only 'Titanic' (1998) still higher on that list.

    The standings of the 'All Time Box Office'-list are now:
    01) $2,782.3 -- 'Avatar' (2009)
    02) $2,185.4 -- 'Titanic' (1998) *2D*
    03) $1,511.8 -- 'Marvel's The Avengers' (2012)

    I believe Skyfall is upto about $1,086 billion w.w. Likely to finish with between $60 to $65 mil in China remember it is only in cinemas a month in China so films are very front-loaded.

    Transformers: Dark Of The Moon earned a lot of money for being such a average film.
    It must have been released at the absolute right time with not much competition.

    The 3d in it was very good best since Avatar this help it be a beast OS particularly in Asian and Latin America. It was release at a good time over the July 4th weekend which tbf is one of best times of year to release a film along with the 1st weekend of May, Memorial day weekend and thanksgiving weekend. It did face a huge blockbuster two weeks after release in the final Harry potter film.

    Just as i was thinking things were getting sensible here..........someone has again made a headline that 'SF' has overtaken 'TB'..............yet reading the article, it was no more than an update to the weekly BO of the film, and there was absolutely no facts or source info in the article.

    Oh dear just more wishful thinking!

    Who here is writing this stuff????????????????????????????????????????????

    No such claim has been made by the film trade, the BO sources, the studios or even EON!

    As i wrote earlier, after i had contacted BO mojo, they themselves even said its impossible to calculate the inflation adjusted world wide box-office figures, because of different inflation rates in each country.

    If you do want a very simple rough answer the average US ticket price is 8 x now that of 1965-1966.
    If you apply that multiplication factor to 'TB's worldwide gross you get around $1130.

    Now 'SF' is getting very close to that, and could well pass that by its end of run in 'China'
    The point is that at present there is NO defintive worldwide BO adjusted inflation list, because it would take an insane amount of research to come up with the figures....and thats why some take the easy route out by just using the US consumer figure, or BO mojos own ticket price inflation method. Unfortunately this leads to a very large difference in results obtained.

    Even the Guinness book of records only has a worldwide adjusted list, but it features only the top 10 films..........and i dont know which methology they used to obtain this.

    :O

    Not sure why this is being flagged yet again since even you can’t prove, disprove anything, enough already. This point scoring one-upmanship is just ridiculous.

    It has nothing to do with point scoring, but everything to do with misleading, unfounded news stories, based on no proof of facts.

    Basically, a lie is being sold here, to suit a fanboys dream!

    No.

    So as much as it obviously bothers you that people say that SF has overtaken TB you can't prove that it hasn't. The fervour that you have to "prove" to people that they are wrong that SF has over-taken TB you should also apply to yourself when you say that it hasn't.

    Good god, quit the bickering and just be happy for both of them. I am sick of this whole "Skyfall has to beat Batman, it must, it must" and people going to the death over whether Skyfall or Thunderball got more money. Some of you need to get your priorities straight and love all of these films for their spectacular achievements both past and present instead of battling over which is the best. Shameful. Just shameful.

    Latest news from France: SF has been seen by 9 180 people in its fourteenth week, putting the grand total at 6 985 187. And it's still playing in Paris. I doubt, however, that it will reach the 7 millions mark, but it's close.

    Great Great news

    By now, Skyfall is the 007th ranked highest grossing film of all time. That's sure to guarantee another 50 years of Bond;. Can you believe I actually heard a rumor that Skyfall was to be the last Bond and also that the Jason Bourne was the new 007. Hahahahahahaha. Not a chance.

    I think it's gone past reasonable thinking. There seems to be a stigma attached to post sixties success, anything after is inferior and needs to be ripped apart to maintain the status quo, so no matter what Skyfall achieves it will never be deemed worthy by some.

    Don't forget that little country Netherlands ;-). The box office gross of 'Skyfall' in The Netherlands currently stands at $25,049,955. This amount ranks 9th behind the following countries (Figures are from BoxOfficeMojo.com, so the real figures could be different, but not that much. The Chinese box office figure is from Entgroup.cn):

    01 --> $302,044,126: USA
    02 --> $161,778,224: UK
    03 --> $084,945,572: Germany
    04 --> $060,069,449: France
    05 --> $049,882,229: Australia
    06 --> $044,700,000: China
    07 --> $032,199,327: Japan
    08 --> $025,241,686: Russia
    09 --> $025,049,955: THE NETHERLANDS
    10 --> $017,862,662: Sweden
    11 --> $017,103,042: Italy
    12 --> $016,050,743: South Korea

    But most importantly, 'Skyfall' is now officially the most visited film after the 1997 2D blockbuster 'Titanic', according to Sony Pictures Netherlands. In just three months, more than 2.2 million Dutch visitors went to the cinema to see the 2rd James Bond film. http://www.nu.nl/film/3015242/skyfall-best-bezochte-film-in-nederland-sinds-2000.html

    Looking at box office figures, 'Skyfall' is already the most popular film ever in The Netherlands, beating blockbusters like 'Titanic', 'Avatar' and 'Harry Potter': http://www.filmdistributeurs.nl/files/Top_1000_all_by_GBO_1991-2011.pdf

    I'd say, a tiny country like The Netherlands deserves some location scouting for Bond 24 no ;-)?

    I truly think its sad, that some people here are prepared to make up their own news stories to suit their own ends.
    This is a Bond film site, not a SF fanboys site, its truly pathetic.
    I dont give a damn which film is more successful, (well i would be taken aback if ever a 'Muppet' movie outgrossed Bond) but i do give a damn, when a tiny minority of members here continually abuse others, because they post facts which are contrary to thier own beliefs!
    Remember, who made these unsubstanciated news stories in the first place.

    All i can say is, if ever in the future a genuine news story is released from the film trade, saying film x made more money than film y, then it is going to make some people here look very foolish.....ISNT IT?

    Well back on topic.........'SF' should reach another landmark by the end of this weekend ie hopefully reaching $1.1 billion.

    :)

    I think your tone is absolutely out of order here. You make it sound as if the Bond fans in here actually create this news. That's bullocks and you know it.

    The fact that many people are enthusiastic about 'Skyfall', and in the meanwhile forget other great movies like 'Thunderball' and 'The Dark Knight Rises', says nothing, ABSOLUTELY nothing about how they rate other movies than 'Skyfall'.

    I think the problem with popularity on the whole is the following: The amount of people that get irritated by this popularity grows as well. I really REALLY don't get this anger. It's anger that borders some kind of snobbery of which I don't like to be part of.

    Let me be frank. This topic is about box office figures. Yes, BOX OFFICE FIGURES. If you don't like it? Go to another topic that is about reviews of 'Skyfall' or about the future of Bond for my part. I go to these topics too by the way, as I am a huge fan of ALL Bond films. No, even worse, I am a hugeeeee lover of all cinema!

    And now......let's get really back on topic :-P.

    @Nepal give it a rest. Jeez. We're working with figures that are available to us and the way it stands you have no concrete figures to prove TB still has SF beat so do us all a favour and spare us your constant drivel.

    Your working with one set of figures only, from several set of figures availalble, being selective in the list you pick because it suits your needs..........the truth hurts doesnt it.

    Please stop this insanity........you know it makes sense

    And yet you can't substantiate SF not topping TB to be factual. It's a waste of time going back and forth on this.

    If it can bring sunshine and happiness to your life, then be it, Skyfall doesn't beat Thunderball.
