One day later than I anticipated but here we are, the big reveal of our top 2.

Beginning of course with the silver medalist:

    THE JAMES BOND THEME
    From Dr. No
Performed by JOHN BARRY & ORCHESTRA.

    The-John-Barry-Seven-interpreta-James-Bond-Theme-Dr-No-1018x1024.jpg

The very first title track remains a firm favourite with its franchise-defining theme tune.

The James Bond Theme took home six gold medals (the most of them all), three silvers and one bronze medal.

Eight more top 10’s were noted: one 5th, three 7th’s, one 8th and three 10th spots.

    Only three members ranked it outside their top 10: a 12th, a 17th and a 20th placement.

In total the James Bond Theme acquired 166 points.

Which makes our number one and our gold medalist:

    ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE
From On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Performed by THE JOHN BARRY ORCHESTRA.

    R-11229034-1512313902-5875.jpeg.jpg

It says a lot how high John Barry is rated amongst Bond fans, given he takes the top two spots with two instrumental pieces in a competition that features songs from so many famous artists.

Concerning OHMSS, our distinguished academy was unanimous: every participant put this one in his/her top 10.

As far as top three’s go: there were three gold medals, five silvers and two bronzes.

The lowest rating was 10th, on a single occasion.

In total OHMSS’s title track collected 174 points.

We’ve played five games so far, these have been the top 3’s:

    Film*:
    1. OHMSS
    2. CR
    3. FRWL
    *(did not include CR67)

    Bond girl:
    1. Tracy
    2. Vesper (2006)
    3. Tania

    Original score:
    1. OHMSS
    2. YOLT
    3. AVTAK

    Main villain:
    1. Sanchez
    2. Goldfinger
    3. Dr. No

    Title track**:
    1. OHMSS
    2. DN
    3. AVTAK
    **(including NTTD)

Only LTK’s Franz Sanchez has been able to break the OHMSS hegemony so far.

That’s it for now, thank you all so much for participating both in the rankings as well as in the discussions.

Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noël, Frohe Weinachten, Buon Natale, Feliz Navidad, etc.

JBT was my #3 and OHMSS #6 but no complaints whatsoever regarding their final standings. Both incredible and iconic pieces of film music.

Thank you @GoldenGun for yet another entertaining round, highly enjoyable as always.

A worthy winner, and although the Bond theme ranked much higher for me than other instalments, it’s still a great runner up.
As always thanks for hosting @GoldenGun you’ve done a sterling job as usual and I look forward to your next game.
    Thanks

I think that we should do denouements/epilogues next.
  • Epilogues sounds great. Here are some other ideas:
    - Production design
    - Cinematography
    - Pre-title sequences
  • Cheers for another great game @GoldenGun!

Pre title sequences would be cool, or we could set up an elimination game for those.
  • Yes, thank you for running these, @GoldenGun! Whatever the category, it’s always fun looking forward to the countdown reveal.

Thanks for hosting another great round!

Very pleased with the Top 7, although I don't like the AVTAK song (my 22nd) at all.
A pity the CR67 theme went out this early; it almost made my Top 5.

Great round that I unfortunately missed. Interesting that the instrumental versions won. I still wonder what Impact the overall qualtiy of the film has on the perception of the title track. I guess AVTAK and DAF are the two where the songs are much more appreciated than the film. Still I guess that people who love a certain film will also mostly love the title track.

I must say nothing beats the Bond theme for me. Very likely my favorite piece of music ever. Though the original arrangement isn't my favorite.

    Which version is your favourite?

Impossible to narrow it down to one, but I love all these:

    From the films:
GF: Bond Back in Action Again
    OHMSS: End credits
    LALD: James Bond Theme
    MR: Gunbarrel
    FYEO: Gunbarrel
    OP: The Palace Fight
    AVTAK: May Day Jumps
TLD: Exercise at Gibraltar / Ice Chase
TWINE: Caviar Factory / Orbis Non Sufficit [both film and album versions]

    From other places:
Version from The Concert John Barry: The James Bond Suite
Version from David Arnold & David McAlmont's DAF single
    Bond vs. Oakenfold version
    Franck Pourcel version
Roland Shaw version [brilliant choice playing the riff in the B-section]
    FRWL video game version
The James Bond Theme (Mr Paul Dunphy's Podcast Mix) [originally titled James Bond Theme (Harmsway's Octogenarian Mix)]

The Orbis Non Sufficit track from TWINE sounds like the end credits of the complete Bond franchise. Epic.

I also really like the inclusion of the Bond theme in the submarine track in FYEO. Very innovative and underrated work by Conti.

He gave the theme a lot of flavor. You can feel he was very excited about using it.

Absolutely. In last year's 'Favorite Bond Moments' thread I surprised myself by ranking even an underwater sequence as my #4 favorite in one of my most liked Bond movies, because of Conti's excellent score.
