    Tomorrow we'll be heading into the top 5. Though in practice we'll already be looking at it today, since this entry collected the same amount of points as tomorrow's reveal. This one did achieve less top 10 spots though and therefore it lost the toss-up.

    Here we go:

    (another difficult search for an interesting poster, nothing particularly special to discover, in acceptable picture quality that is)

    Fair to say GE had a good run. Usually it's a top 10 in games such as this one, but in this particular contest it managed to end up considerably higher.

    GE received two 1st, three 2nd and three 3rd spots. Additionally one more 5th spot was noted, as well as nine more top 10's. GE's lowest ranking was 24th on one occasion, while another member ranked it 23rd, giving it two bottom 5's in total.

    Martin Campbell and Terence Young are the only directors to have more than one entry in the top 10. They are also the only returning directors who have all their Bond efforts in there as well.

    In total, GE secured 187 points.

    DN occasionally overtakes GF as my top Connery, despite my enormous love for Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore. The more I watch other films from the early 60s, the more I'm wowed by how fresh and cool this one must have looked when it burst on the scene.

    Glad to see GE reach this far. I honestly think it remains one the best. A child of its time, but a great first film for Brosnan.

    GoldenEye lands exactly where I have it in my respective ranks. Excellent. Great to see the love for it - you'd often get the impression that its popularity has waned over time on these boards especially, but it takes its rightful place as a top-tier Bond nonetheless.

    A worthy top ten entrant with GE, a film that I enjoy more and more with each viewing. Certainly a Bond classic, with so much to enjoy.
    So, we're down to the final five
    FRWL, GF, OHMSS, TLD and CR. All worthy of being in the top five. My guess is TLD is next. Possibly GF, but I'd be surprised, though it hasn't always got the love at times around here.

    DN #7 for me. Favourite scenes here might be Bond at Taro's villa, and the trio exploring Crab Key on the way to No's lair. Favourite line: "Both hands on the wheel, Mr. Jones. I'm a very nervous passenger!"


    GE #14 - the lowest I've ever had it, as it usually sits in my top 5. It dropped so far due to a recent reassessment of the early Connery and Moore films. A fine entry in its own right, but the six-year hiatus and mostly faithful video game two years later have clearly helped elevate its popularity.

    My boy nearly made the Top 5?

    Nothing more I can say about this one. Perfection and nostalgia through and through, for me. Everything clicks and dazzles and intrigues here for me, from the breathtaking opening stunt to the intense, race-against-the-clock finale. I love everything about this film and can't get enough, surely 1,000+ viewings later.

    As I mentioned, GoldenEye is #3 for me. Aided by a smart script that gently recontextualizes Bond for a new era, as Casino Royale would do more forcefully in a decade, as well as Martin Campbell’s lively direction (as much as I enjoy some of John Glen’s movies, Campbell’s direction is *so* much more dynamic) GoldenEye is about as good of a first entry as a new Bond actor could hope to get. From the opening PTS which blends iconic stunts with an instant narrative hook to 007 and 006 fighting for it all on the satellite dish, the movie is more or less a blast the whole way through. I’m not crazy about Brosnan himself as Bond, he never really carves a unique portrayal of the character for himself and lacks some of the cold edge and swagger, but that’s not nearly enough to get in the way of everything I enjoy about the movie. I’ve revisited this plenty of times since childhood, ready and willing to reevaluate the movie, but I’ve always had a great time with it.

    Personally, I always enjoy GE. Used to be top 5 for me, though now it sits around 8-10. I think it will always be a top 10 for me however, top half would be worst case.

    I'm also a huge fan of the music here of course, that's hardly a secret.

    Watched it recently for the first time in a while. It's a better looking film than I remembered and the cast is really strong. Ouromov is an all-time great character.

    I guess for me though there's not a lot of strong scenes between the awesome PTS and the brilliant fist fight at the end. And too many meta speeches from characters. My biggest hangup is that with all the references to a buddy cop partnership with 006, the main character doesn't really seem like James Bond. Sharing pub-themed code lingo with your partner, "toppling dictators"... Doesn't sound like any James Bond I know.

    Not ashamed to admit it was me who has it at 24!
    Cant stand GE to be honest. Apart from being a bore, it has the most irritating set of characters in one Bond movie! From that silly bitch in the opening assessment sequence, to Sean Bean and his silly accent, to Onatopp ( a poor man's Fatima Blush!) and her encounter with the slap happy Admiral, to Boris 'Slughead' Grisenko, and most annoying the godawful Jack Wade idiot! All topped off by Ol' woodenchops Brossa! And then there's poor old Desmond Llewellyn blatantly reading off cue (Q?) cards!
    Throw in DoP Phil 'lets shoot everything in the dark to hide its cheapness' Meheaux and Eric 'chuck a drumkit down a stairs' Serras music
    score! Not to mention that sickening end title song! Even the lovely Isabella Scorupco, a small saving grace, doesnt escape some awful dialogue, namely that cringey scene on the beach and you have a deserved second last place from me (from the Bond film whose name should never be mentioned!)
    Well at least there are 5 gems to come!

    @Mathis1, and I had it as no 23. I honestly don t understand what people like about this one. Sure, the bungee jump is fine, and the title sequence and song are both excellent. Tcheky Kario gives a great performance the two minutes we se him, and then I can t think of much more.

    @Mathis1 The end song is disappointing. I give you that. But I disagree with all the rest;)
    I love all these crazy characters, especially Ourumov and Onatopp. The Q scene is one of my favourite Q moments. So funny.
    The PTS is amazing, I absolutely love the bungee jump and the "You can't win" moment.
    So many great moments and a much better climax than in most other Bond films.
    GE earns the silver medal for me.

    Never understood people's issue with the beach scene. It's shot in perhaps an overly sentimental way, with the light flaring over the trees and whatnot, but the performances are good and thematically the dialogue is in keeping with the themes of the film.

    I forgot about Ouromov. He starts out quite well in the pts. Commanding presence and air of menace. But later they turn him into a hip flask swigging buffoon!
    Agree about Kleinmans titles, for me he was the best thing about the Brossa era, though he's gone off the boil lately!

    It took me a long long time to come around to GE @Mathis1 believe me. But it has so much going for it. Especially if you break it all down.
    Stunning PTS which must rank among the series best. Intriguing mission, even if we do know who the bad guy is. The tank chase is a series highlight. Well conceived and shot. Highly enjoyable. And then the climax of the n true Bondian fashion. I think Pierce gives a fantastic debut, even with a few faults here and there. On the whole he’s a perfect fit for 007.
    Love the way he turns his head to avoid the bullets as he’s planting his mines.
    Still each to their own.
    Lord only knows my love for OP is never going to be agreed on by the majority of Bond fans.
    I can live with that.

    Well, aside from the lighting and music, Bond's just sitting there thinking about the rough day ahead, and Natalya comes over and gets mad at him for some reason. It's weird. "YOU THINK I'M IMPRESSED? blah blah blah". Natalya, he was just sitting there, why you gotta make it all about you? Should he not kill Trevelyan? What's the problem?

    For me, it's also another reminder of the weird retcon that makes James Bond one half of the dictator-toppling 00 duo unknown to the previous 16 films.

    In these community rankings, it is always FRWL, OHMSS and CR in the top three, but the order differs. When the tournament thread ended last year, the order was OHMSS, FRWL, CR like you suggested here. GF and TLD ended in a joint sixth position.

    I disagree with everything you wrote about GE, @Mathis1. :-) Wow, mate, I couldn't disagree more! It's fascinating to discover how so very opposite opinions can be. GE at 24 is like saying Empire is the weakest of the Star Wars film, at least in my opinion. But hey, I'm sure we're both pleased to see the top 5 with the films that are left. :-)

    We just had the "oddball" with GE! More dips than a roller coaster!
    TLD is a stone cold classic. For me it maintains its excellence throughout! Mainly because of Dalton, who is a sublime James Bond! TLD is in great company for this last round!
