I am pretty sure Tarantino planned another western before it was changed to what he is making now. Would love to see him make a Modesty Blaise movie.
He's been rumoured to do a Modesty Blaise film?
He executive produced one (a somewhat TV movie/unaired pilot) in 2001.

Ah, that one. Haven't seen it, and had totally forgot he was the executive producer. Wouldn't be against him doing a proper Modest Blaise film, with himself directing.

He's mentioned previously that he'll still continue film work once he "retires," just that he won't direct any longer. Think he wants to move to doing books, scripts, etc.

Think Tarantino could write some great books. The dialogue in his films are always a treat, and it would be fun to read some of that in book form.

@Torgeirtrap, agreed. I was reading the missing chapter from Kill Bill yesterday, clicked yet again just how well he writes dialogue and character interactions.

Some years ago, Tarantino had bought the rights to three of Len Deighton's spy novels, but gave up on them. It was to be his alternative to directing Casino Royale, but it appears that was never to be. Ah well.

Exactly! Hope he starts writing books, regardless of how many more movies he might or might not make. Same with scripts. I'm sure the likes of Netflix and Amazon would like to sign him up to pen some projects, maybe directing a pilot for a mini series, etc.

Would love to see a Tarantino Deighton adaptation. As long as he has the rights (still?), we can hope we'll see the project being made, if only with Tarantino only writing, producing or directing. SS-GB was adapted as late as last year, wasn't it?

@Torgeirtrap, now see, while Tarantino is usually given free reign to do what he wants with his film, I could still see him cheating by going to HBO or Netflix after his tenth film and doing a miniseries of some sort. He originally said he could've made Django Unchained a miniseries. That would've been something.

Shame that Tom Cruise is apparently out of Tarantino's new film.

Definitely! And with all the great stuff being made for television these days, I wouldn't at all be surprised if Tarantino would like to explore that possibility. If he gets free reign to make a two hour movie, you could only imagine what he could do with an eight hour long miniseries.

Would be fun to see Cruise in a Tarantino film. It was Brad Pitt who took that role, wasn't it - or was it DiCaprio?

I think Pitt took the role. Though I was rooting for Cruise to take it, to inject some freshness into his career. I wonder who of the two commands the higher salary today: Cruise or Pitt?

Not sure about "took," as it was all down to Tarantino's decision, but he was eyeing both. I would assume Cruise commands a higher payday these days than Pitt.

Pitt having been in Inglourious Basterds might have been a factor, too? Tarantino likes to use actors and actresses he's worked with before, and if Cruise wanted a higher salary, Pitt might have been easier to sign up.

Agree that this could have been a different role for Cruise, and not the typical "main man" role. Tarantino films are always an ensemble effort, which could have been a factor in the casting, too.

Cruise or not, I'm looking forward to this one. Interesting subject and time period to base a film on.

If not Modesty Blaise, I want him to do a follow-up to the Dollars trilogy.

I was pulling for Cruise because I would've loved seeing what he could do in Tarantino's universe. Maybe next time.

Has he entertained that idea, as well?

Would sure be interesting to see Cruise in a Tarantino project. Think Cruise's energy towards stunts, and a colourful Tarantino story (and dialogue!) could be an enjoyable experience.

    It s just wishful thinking.

Being Tarantino, that wouldn't have been too unlikely a project, either!

Exactly right. And with Jackman as Joe/Blondie.

That's actually a very good suggestion. He can do that look with those narrow eyes Eastwood has made a career of.

I saw Borg Vs McEnroe 4 months ago when it came out on the big screen here, I really enjoyed it. As a matter of fact, I've already picked up the Blu Ray for it, it's looking great next to my copies of Senna, Rush and Eddie the Eagle.

Glad I'm not going crazy - I saw that trailer pop up, but I could've swore it had already released somewhere.

I can't wait for Federer V Nadal, that tells the story of the 2008 Wimbledon final. That writes itself, so much drama and build up it had.

Hardly, since Cruise time and again proved that he´s a great ensemble player, for instance in Magnolia, Lions and Lambs, or Tropic Thunder. Incidentally I find those three the best performances he ever did.

Same here. I could imagine something in between his characters and performances in Collateral and Tropic Thunder.
