The best "4" of them all is Star Trek IV.
  • There are quite a few "fourth" films that I enjoy and think are solid: Star Trek IV, Ghost Protocol, Scream 4, First Class, Terminator Salvation...

But the only two I really like are Thunderball and, well, Alien: Resurrection. I know I shouldn't like Alien: Resurrection as much as I do, but...what can I say?...I do.

Hey man, that movie surely has its moments! And Joss (Avengers) Whedon wrote it.

Sorry man, this isn't the 4th in the series, it's the first. I don't care what numeral it has in its title. :))

This is a tough thing to decide.

Rocky IV and Rambo (John Rambo outside the US) are arguably the best in each of their respective series, and I'm just going to have to go with those.

I'm surprised to see Rambo getting some love here- I thought I was alone in liking that one. It was totally brutal and it pulled no punches. Far superiour to the two preceding flicks IMO. Realistic violence is not, nor it should be, depicted as 'fun'.

</b>How do you feel about Tim Burton's movies?

    A) Loved the first few, not too hot on his later ones.
    B) His laters ones are so much better than his first films.
    C) Goofy guy ain't never made a decent movie, I tells ya!
    D) I'm a Tim Burton slave. Anything he poops out, I'll watch!

Dammit. I'm not sure which camp I fall in. I love Batman, Batman Returns and Beetlejuice, but none of the rest of his films.

    E) Haven't seen everything - I think I have seen 13 out of 18 he has directed, and haven't seen the first, one in the middle or the last 3. I like some (both early and later), don't like some, and barely remember some.

I love all the Tim Burton films I've seen. Yes, even Dark Shadows. He's got a very particular style. You could say he is repeating himself and becoming predictable, but I can't get enough of the Burton-style. So put me in the D) camp.

Not sure where i'd fit. I loved his two Batman films, Beetlejuice & Sleepy Hollow. Some of his other films such as Alice In Wonderland & Mars Attacks were ok.

Pretty much choice A for me (although "few" sells my fondness for his earlier work a bit short). I enjoy Frankenweenie (both versions, I guess), Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Ed Wood, Nightmare Before Christmas (yes, I know he didn't direct), Mars Attacks!, Sleepy Hollow, and Big Fish. Sweeney Todd wasn't bad either, but for the most part his newer films don't do it for me. His style has grown awfully stale in my opinion, and the quality of his work has just not been on par with his late '80s-early '00s output. "Directed by Tim Burton" now makes me groan inside...unless the film really looks like something outside his usual...well, once upon a time I would have said "style" but now I feel inclined to say "shtick." I haven't given up on him completely though, and I do still need to see The Corpse Bride, which looks like it could be good.

Burton has been a bit hit and miss his entire carreer in my eyes. Either brilliant genius or just cringeworthy.

I quite enjoy his visions as caught by him for the cinematic experience. He is an original.

Batman, Batman Returns, Nightmare Before Christmas... That's about it. Not too fond of what he delivers these days. I think Tim needs to rethink his formula.

No love for Mars Attacks or Sweeney Todd, @DarthDimi?
  • edited May 2015 Posts: 372
A, his last good movie was Corpse Bride... Sweeny Todd was average. Dark Shadows, Alice in Wonderland and Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter were absolute trash, in my opinion.

I´m hearing good things about Big Eyes though, but I haven´t seen it.
Definitely A. for me. Sleepy Hollow is the last film he did that I liked.
I´m not too fond of Burton´s style of storytelling. He sure knows how to put up a general atmosphere though.

Sleepy Hollow and Mars attacks! were cool. Not sure if I remember his Batman films well, but nowadays I would probably say they are among the best Batman films made so far.
