@anyone Jung wrote about archetypal events (birth, death separation from parents...), and archetypal figures (child (Bond), wise old man (Mallory), wise old woman (M), the trickster (Silva) and the hero (007-- not Bond per se, but 007))...

Taking all of these, mixing them with Jospeh Campbell's The Hero Cycle (The Call to adventure, the journey/obstacles, the death and the re-birth), which is something Hollywood loves to use, and I think it's clear that SF deliberately was developed on a mixture of these premises. And the imagery found in the credits hauntingly reminded me of Jung's interpretations of dreams (where we confront these archetypal events and figures).

Yep. And the psychologist's "word association" test with Bond was an approach Jung took with patients.

The Jungian thing is real, and Fleming himself was interested enough in Jung to write to him and ask to translate one of his lectures into English. That lecture was about alchemy: the renewing of one's self, over and over, to become as close to whole and perfect as possible. This requires one to confront him/herself. It's part of the nature of "duality," a symbol of which is the mirror.

You'll find more mirrors in SF and SP then perhaps all other Bond films combined.

Does anyone own any behind the scenes Skyfall books or the James Bond archives?

Haven't seen Home Alone for years but amazing how Macaulay Culkin seems to have aged with the movie.

  • The official 007 account posted this photo that they claim is from SF:

    Is it though?

It can't be from when Moneypenny visits him as he still has a beard. So there is a chance its a deleted scene after she shaves him and he may have had a shower before going to the casino.

That's the only think I can think of.....unless its actually from NTTD and they mislabelled it.

He's got that nice fresh shoulder wound from when he stuck a knife into himself to dig out the shrapnel.

Must be a deleted scene from when he was "scrubbing-up" pre the casino (post the shave).

Damn I'm gonna miss this James Bond.

And this film-- already high on my list--really wants to go higher... i am waiting to see it again, holding off with all my strength, until I can see SF in concert on Feb 21...

EDIT: Blowing up the pic, it appears he still has scruff on his face. And, if I remember correctly, when he answered the door to MP, his hair was wet. I am guessing this was MP knocking at his door while he was in the shower.

Come on this is clearly a quick shower after sex with his Miss! :D

    Old dog... same old tricks...

(On a serious note, this is 100% a deleted scene of a shower he takes before shave, like you say).

He looks like quite the bad ass in this: lonely-Fleming Bond, untrustworthy even at a knock at the door... I wish they kept this. A great shot of DC/Bond...

Yep... scenes in China and Macao are basically perfection. A joy to watch. But you know, it’s also fine by me having a slightly different portrayal of the character in each film. Cocky and emotional in CR, angry and frayed in QoS, wounded, lonely but still arrogant in SF, confident and softer in SP.

I agree-- no person is stagnate. We respond to nurture and nature. This Bond organically changed throughout the years... But some things stay rooted to the ground (like... not being able to trust-- young Bond felt this upon Vesper's betrayal and 14 years later, it haunts him still)

Oh yes. Speaking about that I always liked a small Vesper node in SP, regarding not being able to trust. When Lucia says she can’t trust nobody he quickly replies: I know the feeling well.

About to see Skyfall in Concert, looking forward to it.

I also ran into David Zaritsky from The Bond Experience and had a chat with him. Nice dude.

Haha, didn't think to mention MI6 (although that would've been funny). He walked into the entrance with a tux on. Definitely an unexpected surprise.

It’s the tux from Skyfall, by Tom Ford. I’m so jealous.

I wish I was in Toronto watching Skyfall tonight. :’(

Honestly, it was a cool experience but it's not really the right film to do this kind of event for. The score is half orchestral, half electronic. And as someone who knows the score well, I found some ways they handled some of those elements to be a bit jarring. Still an experience I would recommend. A John Barry score would be awesome.

I saw Casino Royale in concert at the Opera House. Now that was an experience!

The score is not jarring, SF in concert was an incredible experience for me and my company back in December.

Really @Getafix do you give up? Go and soil yourself in the Dalton appreciation threads, your opinion on this film is public record and then some.

You pounce on every opportunity to slag Skyfall off, oh look there's someone being negative about it again must share by broken record point of view once again.

Any film they might end up doing in Vancouver, I'll be there 100%. May even make a trip out to Toronto for the next one they do there.
