This makes me even more curious as to who wrote what for Skyfall.

I'm starting to think all the great dialogue out of SF came from Purvis & Wade, perhaps? They have written Q decently before.. Moneypenny on the other hand? There was that CG sex scene in DAD.

Very interesting development. Makes me even more curious as to how the film will carry out.

It just makes me worried, or curious, in a bad way. Filming in just a few months is pushed back another two months (which will screw up the November '15 release date, I'm assuming) for a rewrite when Logan has spent so much time on it already?

Sigh I just I am hoping this means bond 24 will be closer in spirit to Casino Royale instead of Skyfall which the more I watch/think about it the more puzzled I am by it...

Still I was growing tired of Logan being tired so at least that is something.

At this rate, who honestly knows what the feel of 'Bond 24' will be. I'll just sit back and let it unfold. My excitement rate right now isn't the same that it was when SF was amping up, unfortunately, but we'll see how the film shapes up in time. I'm still pumped for it, though, don't get me wrong.

I was very happy with Skyfall; still am.

I don't want to get too worried about P&W returning. Since I've been watching Penny Dreadful, I've come to lose some respect for Logan (cliches, very melodramatic - but perhaps that fits that particular kind of show - and shocks for shock's sake). But I want to keep a balanced perspective. A writer can certainly write great, good, not so good, and pretty lousy things. Does't mean he can't write great again.

I would perhaps be happier if a new writer or writing team were brought in to polish things; or bring Paul Haggis back in now. :) And it so easy to give way to wild speculation (the producers must have hated the long two film arc and Mendes didn't want it either! And now there must be something really wrong with the script because P&W are back!!). Well, scripts often, very often, have more than one writer involved. If P&W have any sense of history or personal pride in their work, they have learned a lesson from DAD and gotten strength from CR. So, we shall see; I'm not worried yet, actually.

The two month delay could be due to a variety of factors. I definitely want the filming started asap, so I'm not pleased about that. Hope we get some other kind of news soon, too.

Boo hiss Mr Mendes. How dare you bring out the DB5, Bond's most iconic car, for the 50th anniversary.

No, how dare he brings it back with gadgets or at least no reference made as to how they got there.

Bringing back the DB5 itself was a wonderful thing and as the literary Bond has a love of classic cars (in the 50's books he owned a 1930's Bentley) then it makes sense to have it but just without the silly gadgets which don't harmonise with the Craig era. Since this was Bond's personal car there's no reason why we couldn't have seen it in every film. Now that it's blown up, Bond should be driving a Bentley. Ordinarily I would suggest one from the 60's (classic British cars are generally beautiful and elegant) however, I think the older Bentleys are on the plain side. The modern ones look a lot better.

"But now they’re back. The pair — who co-wrote five films for the franchise — have just been hired to re-write Logan’s script and give it some ‘punch’"

This could very well mean more big action set pieces and more cheesy, cringe inducing humour. Wouldn't be surprised at all which is why I no longer get my hopes up for these Bond films. Just what I said before about Logan feeling understandably bitter about working on big budget films in the wake of Bond 24 script re-writes. Get rid of the grittiness and deep character movement! We can't have this on Bond films! (Rolling eyes). Well, if there is not more humour than there was in CR then it would be okay but a little of the comedy in this film was corny and unnatural and if P & W are doing the final rewrites then this frankly, isn't good. They are good with the stories but their dialogue is far from the best.

Oh, what could have been... Good luck to them...

    I read the article. :-B
    Baz does say this:
Purvis and Wade have been asked to ‘punch up’ the script and sprinkle in more gags, emphasising the witty repartee between Daniel Craig’s 007 and Naomie Harris’s Miss Moneypenny, and focusing on the interplay between Bond and Ralph Fiennes’s M.

I am fine with that, done within reason, with balance and class, and along the lines of the dialog we had in Skyfall - because I really liked Bond's repartee with Moneypenny, Q, and Mallory in Skyfall.

His source is an "executive associated with Bond films." Well, before Skyfall I remember people slamming Baz's reputation; apparently, he had not been so "spot on" in the past. But he clearly must have had a decent source before and during filming of Skyfall because he was correct in his breaking news about Skyfall.

And I now remember that QOS almost filmed the story with Bond having a child, for heaven's sake. And they also had the crippling writers strike to deal with. So for now, I say take two months if they must, but I hope no longer. "Punching up" the script is what happens to many, many movies; that does not concern me in itself.

Many of us on this forum want a slightly lighter tone to Bond 24; that has been talked about. It does not mean that for sure the horrible gags and too campy humor will be inserted into the new film. Surely, P&W as well as the producers are aware of DAD's reputation at this point. TWINE, too, had awful humor. This news does mean, however, that - if Baz's sources as stated are correct - that there was not any (or noticeably enough) sparkling element of humor or repartee that stood out in the finished Logan script. I think it's not necessarily a bad thing that the powers that be want to lighten up this next story. Again, it just has to be the right balance.

Michael and Barbara would be idiotic to tamper too strongly with Craig's Bond. We shall see, but I refuse to give totally dire predictions at this point. I am still very much looking forward to Bond 24.

Let's hope David Arnold is back to punch up the music.

Like I said, they need to keep Craig's tone constant and quit changing the man up so much. Progression is fine, from a rookie agent to the seasoned 00 that he is, but I don't want him cold and calculating, then relaxed and lighthearted for another film, then cracking one liners the next, then dead serious the next one, etc. Just keep some constant tone to him, please.

I'm just curious as to what state the script is in now that they had to delay filming by two months and begin a script touch-up.

Oh, I'd love Arnold back, @Murdock and @marketto007. :-bd

Balance is the key for Bond humor and it is not always easy. I do think Skyfall had good dialog for the most part. P&W gave us Casino Royale, so I am hoping for quality again - even with their insertion of humor, as apparently has been requested. I hope the producers when hiring them back said, "More humor, wit, sparkling repartee, yes BUT .....!!!!!"and then clearly laid out that no lines should be crossed. Over the top, too stupid humor; no thank you.

I'd love to hear if JamesPage has anything to add to this news ... B-)

MGW is many people, including JamesPage, Vin Diesel and the real Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Anyway, is this for real? I was glad to have gotten rid of these two jokers that gave us one of the most pretentious, convoluted and boring scripts with TWINE.

Now I expect Judy Dench to return as Bond's aunt and since Mallory will get killed - the tagline will be "THIS time, it is personal! (again...)" - she will step in and be the new M. Oh and Bond is a child that needs motherly love and advice from his superiors...

But how will they be able to match the release date? If true, will that be postponed, too?

Yes, the release date is a concern. I really want it before Christmas, for goodness' sake!

And I am not tooting P&W as wonderful, by any means. I just refuse to think that they will automatically go overboard and write garbage. I do wish the producers had brought in Haggis or another new writer.

Like I said, two months is a long time when it comes to a film, the release would probably have to be pushed back, which means it won't be an October/November release.

Its just ridiculous that after all the delay we already had and all the time, THEY have had to get things right, we now have this. They should have let Mendes go and go on with it and get it out this year, for f**** S*** :-w

I feel the writing part has had more than enough time. If it was weak enough now, it was probably weak enough (and looking to continue like that) a few months ago. The powers that be should have acted sooner, I think.
Its unbelievable really. And you don't need 2 months to just "punch" up a script IMO. Who knows, WHAT they are really doing. DC sure isn't lucky with the way the pre- production on his films is going. Too much more delay might cost us and him 25.

Exactly. The script has been worked on for a long while now, why are they just now bringing in people to work on it, thus delaying the film?

From Empire magazine March 5 of this year, Logan said:

Right now the first draft is almost done,” he told us. “I’m terrifically excited about it! I’ve been working very closely with Sam (Mendes), and it’s been joyous to pick up from our work on Skyfall and just continue on with the storytelling. The new movie continues the themes of Skyfall. Some of the characters and themes that we began to introduce in Skyfall will play out, I hope successfully, in the next movie.”

I know this whole article was talked about back then, but I just wanted to say that even in March it seemed to me that the first draft should have already been completed, definitely by March 2014. Even considering that the two film story arc was thrown out a while ago.

Sigh ...I'm just disappointed with the delay. Not frighteningly concerned about P&W, yet not overjoyed about that either. I'd be happier with another writer on board at this point (yes, I realize I have said that in nearly all my last posts). Get it polished and finished, folks! I know other writers are often brought in, that in itself does not bother me. I am just not happy that it is being done now at this rather late date.

Imagine the backlash from that. One entire year delay for nothing. I still wish they would've rode on SF's success and released B24 this year, sans Mendes.

This...this whole thing is ridiculous and again, I doubt justt pepping it up a bit takes 2 months. Who knows, what's REALLY going on. And will they be able to pull it off for December release? If not, what would they do? Summer with another delay for 25? This seems to go out of hand right now IMO.

That's a good thought: why an entire two-month delay to retouch approximately 120 pages of a script? And I'm sure they've been brought in to edit here and there, not the entire script from beginning to end.

Does this mean, that Logan is pissed and sorta out, because they had artistic controverse? Sounds like it to me now.

Also - will they be WILLING to put it out in December? I am really, really pissed now myself.

Delaying production to merely 'touch up' a script doesn't happen. There will potentially be some substantial changes, the extra months giving them a window to align what's on the page to what's on the set/location.

Well, if P & W can write some actual clever, witty and subtle dialogue instead of cheesy rubbish for Moneypenny and Bond then fine, but can they? We've heard their past efforts. Still, if they were the ones responsible for the dialogue between Penny and Bond in SF, then I'm content. Except for that lame, unnatural ending where Bond finds out Penny's full name. Let's hope the exchanges between Bond and M aren't overdone this time like they were between the lady M and her best agent. More of that same old stuff will have me cringing and yawning.
