So it looks like Snyder had to repurpose archive footage of Cavill from MOS (after he screamed over Zod’s body), placing a CGI hand of Darkseid over Superman’s shoulder.

The shadow of the hand looks extremely 2D.

That's a good catch. I wonder is that part of one of the dream sequences (if it is actually in the final film)? Considering the context of the original scene, Superman can only be feeling sad or angry there.

Early on before the official announcement of JL Snyder Cut there were rumours of a collection of scenes just being presented on HBO. The fact we are getting something so much more is remarkable. I always anticipated there may be a patchwork element to the film I would be very surprised if there was not based on the circumstances.

On that subject, Virgin Media have it down as appearing on Sky Cinema/Now TV on the 18th. I'll probably watch it if that's the case.

The Sky site says it's on there too. So, it's on Sky next week.

That's good it means not paying extra on top of a subscription (assuming people have Sky/Now TV). I was expecting it to possibly be on Amazon Prime for a steep price to rent.

Yeah I was quite surprised about that too. And if you don't have Sky you could just do a free NOW TV trial (which I guess they're still running?) and watch it at no cost at all.

Also returning subscribers will make a bit of money for Sky. I have not had Sky for sometime I subscribe to Now TV, now and then mainly for football and cancel when the season is over.

I pay for at least another 4 subscription services so its more cost effective for me to re subscribe when there are shows/movies I am interested in.

    Darkseid and Steppenwolf

A Superman villain from the comics that isn’t Lex Luthor or General Zod? I’m shocked, I never thought this day would come.

I wonder why that video (or maybe that YT channel) has black bars added when it could just fill the frame.

The film is actually going to be presented in 4:3 due to the aspect ratio being 1:33. Snyder shot the film in Super 35 rather than anamorphic/scope and says he prefers the squarish framing.

Yes indeed, that's what I mean: the YT vid doesn't need black bars at the top and bottom and echoey video to fill the frame on either side. Weird choice.

I love how they keep including the Green Lanterns. I do hope we get a good GL film in the near future. I had no trouble sitting through the Ryan Reynolds one, but I'm glad it's not an official part of this canon. I don't think it would fit, tonally.

Cavill’s Superman deserves his own second film.

I agree and if that does not happen I would sign him up as the next Bond.

I've been watching them again before the new one: only seen them once before. Man Of Steel I thought started fairly well but got quite boring when all of the endless superfights started. Not bad generally though.
I did Batman Vs Superman last night and I'd agree that it definitely ends up feeling like Superman gets a raw deal as he's finished with before he really started. Lots of examining if we need a Superman etc. but he barely gets to be Superman. It's a much poorer film than Steel though, just an awful lot of portentous standing around and talking (they throw in an action scene and it turns out to be a dream sequence? What a waste of time) and a load of character beats and changes of mind which don't really ring true. I'm not sure I even hugely got what Lex was doing.

Also Bruce decides to get the superpowered people together because he has an idea something bad might happen. But why not spend some of those billions on a big private army with guns and stuff? :)

Unless it s a documentary, all such scenes are fantasy anyway.

The whole thing is a fantasy, but if the scenes you're watching have no impact on the plot they are pointless. A dream scene is fine to show a character's inner thoughts (even though it feels a bit hackneyed) but a whole action scene is just a waste of time.

I thought it was fine. If someone woke up at the end of the film, and everything was a dream, it would be different.

We had a thread here once where the poster theorized that Moore waking up at the start of LALD implied that DAF had been just a dream where he imagined he was Connery.

For me, action scenes need stakes to be exciting. If you know a character isn't in danger or there are no stakes it can't be exciting. You thought it was fine, but I'm just explaining why I didn't.
