I think the first film is going to crab the audiences

Audiences don't want to get crabs from a movie.

    Depends on the theatre/venue/cinema house.

I have heard of a Plaice like that

You have to wait. If you go now, it will be another film showing.

Ha ha, that was funnier than anything of Zack Snyder's DC movies put together.

Once again, the CW's DC tv crossover totally out shined the Justice League movie. Here's hoping Aquaman is at least half as good as Elseworlds was!

The Crossovers are great fun, I am in the UK and need to catch up on episodes.

Elseworlds was fun, but I had some problems with the structure and how certain characters were used.

Still, looking forward to next year.

Aquaman opened pretty well in China, and the reviews have been fairly positive so far, at least as far as DCEU films go. It’s currently sitting at 70% on RT, though the score seems to continually drop as more reviews come in.

I’ll be seeing Aquaman tonight. I’ll be sure to share my thoughts.

Sigh I still don’t get why the film is being made

I realize I never shared my thoughts on Aquaman.

To be honest, this film let me down. The more the film carried on, the more it turned me off. I seem to be in the minority though. I'm actually surprised so many others are liking it.

It had an overly kinetic quality to it. It seemed like whenever we were on the verge of settling in and having a quiet character moment, it would be interrupted with an explosion or someone crashing through the wall.

The dialogue was pretty awful too. These poor actors never really got a chance to shine because their material was so bad. There were brief moments where Momoa's natural charisma came through but they were few and far between. Many of the lines just came off awkward and stilted.

The humor was also pretty poor. Of course there were occasional laughs throughout the theater but most of the major attempts at humor fell completely flat. Even the hero shots or big reveals where you typically gets cheers felt underwhelming. There was just no reaction from my audience. Keep in mind, this was a special advanced screening filled with fans wearing DC t-shirts and cosplayers carrying tridents. Ultimately, I feel the tone was just wrong. I really wish this film took itself a bit more seriously.

To put it into perspective, I pre-ordered an IMAX ticket several weeks ago for opening night. After seeing this advanced screening, I cancelled the reservation and got a refund. I don't have any desire to see this again. Not anytime soon at least.

As it stands now, my subjective ranking of DCEU films goes:

    Man of Steel A
    Wonder Woman A-
    BvS B-
    Aquaman C-
    Suicide Squad F
    Justice League F

Elseworlds just finished watching, it's far from perfect though being a life long DC fan it was alot of fun. There are some genuinely great moments, saying that Supes is written extremely poorly and bad casting. Ruby Rose was terrible as the none event Batwoman

    The
    Monitor
    scenes were awesome.

Though you can't deny the ambition, in 2019...

But... but... the Snyder cut! :))
  • Now this is pretty cool! This is (one of the many) costumes that Nicholas Cage was meant to wear in the infamous Superman Lives.
Later it was worn by none other than Henry Cavill in 2004 (!) for his audition for what was then called Superman: Flyby, and would have directed by JJ Abrams.
That went through development hell and eventually became Superman Returns (Zzzzzzz)

Nice! I have the Jon Schnepp (R.I.P. Sweaty), documentary The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened, there were some interesting suits created for Burton's abandoned film.
  • I think my favorite one was the one that was very dark blue, with black boots and belt- with the cape a deep blood red. Also the red S on his chest no longer had yellow behind it, but instead more dark blue.
That looked like a perfect comic-to-reality costume transition. Enough like Superman but not completely cartoony, you know?

Unfortunately the images of Cage actually wearing it weren't flattering at all! :))

I don t know, I would love to see it. Jack Nicholson as Luthor, and Bizarro was in it. Brainiac, too.

    Justice League F

So after seeing an advanced screening of Aquaman and being disappointed, I cancelled my preordered ticket for the opening night IMAX screening. In a strange twist of fate, as I was inching my way home through rush hour traffic last Thursday, I passed the same theater just 30 mins before showtime. I decided to stop in and see it again (mainly to let traffic die down).

And I’m kinda glad I did though because I’m changing my tune about this film. I think I was being too hard on it. While I believe my complaints are still valid (particularly awful dialogue and horrendous soundtrack choices), when you take this film for what it is, it’s a pretty decent CBM romp.

It definitely looks good on an IMAX screen too. I don’t believe it was shot with IMAX cameras but it switched aspect ratios during the underwater scenes much like an IMAX film would.

Overall, I think I now give it a C+ or so. Which effectively changes my rating from a thumbs-down to a thumbs-up.

I saw Aquaman last night and was really happy with it. It´s huge, silly, and very consistent and entertaining. I might want to watch it again, but can´t say Right now, because the film is so massive, it left me a bit stuffed ;-).
For those who watched the Trailers but not yet the film: Believe it or not, the Trailers didn´t Show off yet the most gigantic stuff.
Definitely great fight choreography! Nicole Kidman destroying a handful of opponents near the beginning of the film Looks actually believable.
