Well, I enjoyed the film but I'm not sure as to whether it lived up to the hype. The one liners just don't belong in the Craig era and while I do think DC is a very talented actor, he can't deliver them with the flair of Connery and Moore. .

The scene with the reptile in the casino was very Flemingsque but could have been more suspenseful and certainly could have done without Bond making the cheesy quip at the end after pulling himself back onto the bridge.

I was also hoping Bond would have gone into more detail about his childhood but at the same time I was wondering how they would do it as M was undoubtedly aware of Bond's history.

I'll have to see this a couple of more times but I think Casino Royale is the better film. Campbell made the right decision keeping the one liners out. With Mendes, it just seemed in some parts that he was just ticking all the boxes. Also, why does the DB5 have guns and an ejector seat? Are we supposed to believe that Demetrious had all this fitted into his car before Bond won it off him in CR? Why would Q do all this when he said that exploding pens are not what they do anymore? Unnecessary. Silly.

I thought that Bardem’s character might have been a little too light hearted and comical for my liking but thankfully I was proved wrong. He did a wonderful job. One of the best villains in the series.

I love who became the new M at the end but the character who turned out to be Moneypenny was a bad move in my opinion.

I was hoping the scenes at the beginning when Bond is "enjoying death" would be a little more panned out. Sadly, they were cut too tightly.

Why did the DB5 have machine guns? Are we supposed to believe that Demetrious had these installed before Bond won it off him in CR? Q said that they don’t go in for exploding pens anymore so why would he install guns and an ejector seat? I don't buy it. This stuff was unnecessary.

I was hoping that they would go into more detail about Bond’s background history too.

Currently, I rate the film 7 out of 10. CR is better. Campbell had the right idea - leave out the one liners as they just don’t belong in the Craig era. It seemed like Mendes was just ticking off all the boxes not unlike in the Brosnan era. I’m not even sure where I would rate this film at the moment. Maybe in the top 10. I did like how there was more character development in this film. It was part action, part thriller, part drama instead of all just action like in the majority of the post Dalton films.

For Bond 24 and beyond, I'm going to avoid these photo threads because otherwise I will accidently read all this speculation. It was no surprise what happened at the end of the film for me.

I loved SF although as you say not quite as good as Casino Royale but no other film could be IMO. I also will be avoiding all speculation in the run up to Bond 24 as I came across way too many spoilers and fan speculation that took away some of the mystery. Lesson learnt for next time! Still, a very enjoyable viewing experience nonetheless and Bardem gace an acting masterclass in screen villainy.

Slightly outrageous comment to make, surely? If the gun barrel is at the end of the film how can all the traditional elements return? You did say "all". With respect, you should have said "most". And I'm not aware of previous Bond films using the f word. So that's hardly a tradition!

I'm not wishing to dispute your review, Jet, but you do have to careful when you make sweeping statements such as ""All the traditional elements return in this film, " because that is not 100 percent correct.
Yes it is 100 percent accurate, no sweeping statements from me. The gunbarrel appears at the end, and for a specific reason (which I won't spoil). I had issues with this too before watching, but after seeing how the film played out, it made sense putting the GB at the end of the movie.

As for the `F' word appearing, grow up!! Fleming's novels were littered with swear words.

Girls Eve was decent enough and looked hot, but I'm not sure about her being Moneypenny. She's a secretary, I didn't want some big backstory about how she shot Bond. Severine is great but really underused. The greek girl doesn't even open her mouth. Bond doesn't get laid much either but that's not really a problem, as long as he gets one girl per film I'm happy.

LOL He gets laid by 3 in this film, how many more do you want him to have?

Me too. CR had a few flaws (Eva Green being one of them) whereas I didn't find any in SF. I also found SF to be more engaging and gripping too.

This is not to detract from CR in any way, as it comes a close second.

It was a nice 50th anniversary logo, do you agree?

Yes, very nice but gunbarrel should be at the begining.

Yeah, I just ended up learning too much. Speculation often proves to be accurate. The end of Skyfall came as no surprise to me whatsoever.

Also, regarding the very end, I love who the new M is and the old school office. It even has the Admiral's beloved naval pictures on the wall! Didn't notice the shell for the pipe ashes however. ;)

A 100% true, but modern, copy of his office, ey? :D

You haven't seen the film have you? Or is that a typo?

He gets laid twice but there really isn't much sex in the film. When there is a sex scene it only lasts a few seconds anyway.

But he does get "laid". So another "big issue" I don't understand.

I didn't say it was a big issue, I just pointed out when talking about the Bond girls that there isn't much sex in the film. I even said it's not really a problem.

So, I've seen Skyfall yesterday twice and generally it's very good but I am not sure to put it in my best five's. Many scenes are great but some odd (homosexual talk, killing Severine). Direction, acting, cinematography, dialogs, song are fabulous but music is weak, the worst in series, shame. And someone forgot to write at the end "To the memory of John Barry".

Why should they have written that?

He died and gave a lot to the series, and they've dedicated films before. I think it would've been a nice touch.

Long story short: Skyfall is definitely one of the 3 best James Bond films and after CR it's the second Bond film that I can wholeheartedly recommend to people who otherwise don't really like Bond films.

Then, they should've written something for all the great people who worked on Bond that have died.

Excellent film, in top six or seven Bonds.
Villain was terrific, although campery just spilt over slightly. Maybe a bit more menace could have been shown.
    Settings great, Daniel Craig excellent.
    Couple of observations -
    1) wouldn't Bond be in deep sh*t over M's death? It was his idea to take her up to Scotland - ultimately the plan failed. She surely would have been much safer in London with hordes of security/police/army protecting her. Or could they not have sent the army up to Scotland as a trap for Silva?
    2) Jokes about her poor aim aside, Eve actually looked pretty handy in the field. It didn't seem credible she would accept a secretary's job ... a bit of a blow to feminism?

Well I'm assuming he did do Eve ;)

I thought skyfall was excellent ..i thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
Silva was a pure menacing villain i actually felt really uncomfortable when he got close to bond tied to that chair.Daniel craig is also on top form and seems more relaxed into the role.
only complaint i have is the soundtrack it could have been a lot better.

I love that they don't show Bond & Eve having sex. That, and the bullet, will hopefully give us some great banter in Bonds 24 & 25. :D

And about the music: It has grown on me, but I always liked Arnold, so I wouldn't mind him coming back.

But the Breadcrumbs-part when the DB5 is revealed is pure genius. Great reaction from the audience too!

I felt uncomfortable during that scene too. The pitfalls of watching at BFI IMAX lol

Maybe he gave her a shave as well ;)

I actually think she'll work well as Moneypenny alongside M

I just loved those little bits: like the fact that M had typed "COMMANDER" Bond... Here's to him in uniform!

Did he? All I remember was Eve shaved him. Still, even if he did, it didn't show it. So there really isn't much sex in the film.
