    I just found out that Connery’s former villa on the French Riviera is on the market for £27.4 million.

    I agree regarding Charlotte Rampling, Charlotte was great in Farewell, My Lovely opposite Bob Mitchum as a Femme Fatale.

    Maybe it's Sean's expression, but the first time I saw that picture I thought he looked a bit like Michael G Wilson.
    Still great to see a recent shot of him. Happy birthday, Sean!

    Happy birthday to one of my heroes from way back. Glad he's still with us and look forward to discovering many of his other performances I hadn't had the pleasure of seeing yet and getting reacquainted with those I've enjoyed many times over. That's the mark of a screen legend.

    Another one from me since “James Bond / Sean Connery” is trending on twitter at the moment.

    Back in 1998, music producer (Sir) George Martin asked some of his “friends and heroes” to join him in saluting the music that had been a major part of his life. It was to be (at the time) his retirement album. So, in addition to Beatles’ covers sung/played by the likes of Goldie Hawn, Celine Dion, Vanessa Mae, Billy Connolly and Robin Williams, etc., you have Sean Connery doing a nice spoken word version of “In My Life” to conclude the LP.

    From the liner notes(*):
    “There are only a few voices in the world which are completely unmistakable. When you hear the voice of Sean Connery you know who it is after one syllable. I wanted to finish with the poignant lyrics of “in My Life” and I cannot think there is anybody else who can give them the meaning that Sean does. He is a hero not just to me, but to almost everyone I know.”

    There is an article on the front page now, where his top non-Bond films get ranked. It is claimed there that in The Untouchables he plays Jimmy Malone, "an old-time gangster". That isn t quite correct.

    I watched a tribute to Sir Sean earlier on YouTube from a UK Entertainment channel and they called the first Bond Film to star Sean Connery Mr No [-(

    Sean Connery is perhaps the last great, iconic movie star who could have held his own with legends like Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, or Bogart. The Bond series was extremely lucky to find a superstar-in-the-making. I hope he's in good health and fully enjoying his 90th birthday. What an amazing life to look back upon!

    I don't know the exact reason why Connery retired from movies when he did, but I have long thought it was a shame that his last film was the crummy League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I would have loved to see him as King Lear, or in a role of similar greatness.

    I remember a quote from him saying he no longer felt a connection with the movie business. He regretted turning down roles for THE MATRIX and LORD OF THE RINGS. He turned them down because he didn’t understand them. So when they became hits, he took a chance in LGX even though he didn’t quite get the movie he figured it would keep his profile high. Since had a bad experience making it and it flopped he decided he was done for good.

    That is an illuminating interview. Seen it before, but fun to see it again. That is a great, loving smile he gives at the end.
