We're looking at maybe another $25 Mil this coming week, and maybe if we're lucky, $20-$15 MIl the week after that.

I say we might have it by January!

$300 mil US is the target especially as it is the holiday season soon and a lot of people are out of work. Yh Lincoln had a good hold this weekend due to it's golden globe success and rise of guardians is a Xmas film so bound to do well. So pleased for Lincoln as a history student finally people are showing some interest in there history then the usual hollywood rubbish that makes bucket loads of money.

Sony need to give this a Christmas ad blitz in the US, to not get to $300 million now would be shooting the golden goose. I mean, come on, first Bond to get to $200 and $300 million.

At this rate, I'd bet Bond 24 would do $1.1 billion at least. Crazy numbers.

    Actually I'm not sure.

While I feel that a lot of people who weren't really fans have celebrated Skyfall and caught on to the hype, 2012 was a very big year for the UK, and I fear that played a major role in the success.

But Bond is bigger than that, so it is indeed possible Bond 24 will set all these records faster than Skyfall.

It's bound to make $300 mil with Xmas and new year ahead. Bond 24 could slip back from Skyfall as Skyfall had so much going for it that Bond 24 does not have. 2012 has been a very british year around the world in general this helped a lot i think. Yh bond 24 will set opening records but it may fall fast like a lot of follow ups to hugely successful films.

Bond 24 is likely to not be another Quantum Of Solace though, more The Dark Knight Rises to The Dark Knight.

Except Skyfall was similar to TDKR lol. Anyway maybe as Bond 24 will have inflation on it's side and will hopefully be filmed in IMAX for some scenes but hopefully none of that 3d rubbish.

I find it VERY interesting that The Hobbit had a smaller opening weekend than Skyfall in the US. Very interesting indeed.

And I think that $1B for Skyfall should pretty much be a done deal at this point.

It should have longer legs. If it doesn't beat Skyfall, it'll be deemed a dud I'm sure.

951 millions... I almost thought it was a joke when i saw the topic first. Who could have imagined this before the premiere? Well, i couldn't. This is great, absolutely stunning!

It is indeed quite baffling that SF has done so well when comparing to earlier also well received 007 movies, which all made a healthy profit.

It does put the bar absurdly high for the next Bondmovie.

But still congratulations are in order for EON, even if the current Bondmovies are not quite my cup of coffee (I detest tea) they seem to have found a way to tap a vein of interest. (I do not doubt that a parachute jump out of a helicopter by the Queen with 007 has done a lot for the movie in raising awareness, for me one of the highlights of this year on the telly)

The problem is, just like with QoS and with TDKR. The audience, and we fans will probably have rocket-high anticipation for Bond24. Which can be both good or bad.

After QoS my expectations were not that high as I believed that after QoS EON could most certainly not make a worse movie.

And as for TDKR it was never going to be as big as a movie that lost one of his major characters before its release. And they did get quite some interest based upon that one issue.

The hurdle that SF has thrown up for the next 007 movie is a rather huge one.

Absolutely amazing figures! :O Could it beat Thunderball? It really is mindblowing money!

The question is now "will it beat The Dark Knight Rises?".

I'm not sure I agree. Bond has been around for 50 years and I think it's safe to say that it's not about trying to be bigger but to ensure the movies are actually good. CR was an amazing movie and surprised people that Bond movies for this generation can actually be good. People also thought CR couldn't be topped and I'm convinced that QoS could have really lived up to being a direct sequel had it not been for the writer's strike but SF turned out to be a movie on par or surpassing the greatness of CR and that's what the forthcoming movies need to do. The focus simply needs to be on making great and entertaining movies and to market the hell out of the movies like there's no tomorrow.

Another update of the 'Spy/Action Movies-list'. As of December 17th 2012, 'Skyfall' seems to be on the road towards the $1 Billion worldwide. Right now it is short of only $49 Million to catch that figure. It is expected that 'Skyfall' will bank in another $30 Million in the USA alone until the very end of its run, probably late February/early March.

Then there is China. It is now officially confirmed that 'Skyfall' will premiere in China on Sunday January 20th, so it can cash in on some Chinese New Year excitement (This year Chinese New Year is on February 10th). The worst prediction would see 'Skyfall' still earning $40 Million in China.

But that would already be enough for 'Skyfall' pushing it over the $1 Billion mark worldwide. And all other markets besides China and USA haven't been taken into account either. Summarizing: 'Skyfall' is now battling 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Note for the reader: Take in mind that for, more or less, accurate comparisons, most of the below action/spy movies are produced in 1987 or later. Actually, most of them were produced after the 1990's.

Furthermore, I have updated the list in such a way now, so that you can also use it as a 'watchlist'. Movies with a '▪' are part of a spy/actionhero movie franchise. Movies with a '▫' are rebooted movies or remakes. Movies with a '∞' are based on previous tv-series.

It does put the bar absurdly high for the next Bondmovie.

It first, I would say that too. It does put the bar high. But absurdly high? No. Michael and Babs just need to continue on the same road: Hire both expensive Oscar-worthy crew and cast. Which, with the business upgrade of the Bond franchise, will now be a bit more easier. What Nolan did with Batman, took a bit longer with Bond. But it DID happen: The Bond franchise is fully upgraded now. Just keep going on the same road.

So far the Craig 'triplet' of Bonds has brought the franchise nothing but gold. This is a victory for the man. I remember the scepticism in 2005. I remember certain websites going ape against the man. And look how Craig has stolen audiences' hearts.

    Congrats to all involved.

Since CR the Bond movies have once again become an A-list series and this was further cemented with SF's overwhelming success.

Well said DD! Although i had a few concerns about Dan, i never once derided or slated the man. I was horrified at how evil and pathetic some people were towards him. Remember seeing Roger Moore say how about you wait until the movie comes out before you print or say anything.

Really pleased for Dan and the franchise, long may the success continue into the future!

Skyfall becomes the most successful movie of the year 2012 in France with 6 606 490 tickets sold. Only 69.097 tickets away from beating "Goldfinger".

The film could make 10 billion for all I care ,But was it a great film ? No it was a cut up mess. Is EON and MGM sending out checks to all the Bond fans anyway ? Why care how much a film makes over quality.

Think you're in the minority there bud. PS the word check in that sense is spelt "Cheque".

@LeChiffre, it's the same word, just a different locale usage. American English spells it as 'check,' while you're familiar with 'check.' It's like the American English 'favor' as opposed to 'favour.'

Skyfall is going to run TDKR very close $1.050 at least entering top ten highest grossing films ever!

I'm just hoping it hits $1 billion, which is pretty much a guarantee now. Less than $50 million to go, and it opens in China in about one month.

Ah, it seems that "give me statistics but only for the results I want" attitude has reached the front page. So here "officially" Bondmania is back again, and the "older fans" have only very thin arguments to say it is not so... !

I have already given many before about the past, I won't repeat myself, so I'll give one more detailed about the future.

Let's imagine that history continues as it is in the next few years : imagine the $ continues to be cheaper wrt to many other currencies, let's say it looses 30% in the next ten years (in the last ten years, it lose 40% for China, 50% for Japan, 30% for Euro, 0% for the Pound, for instance). Then the box office worldwide for a blockbuster which is 30% US, 70% foreign for instance, will receive a global 21% bonus just because your doing your computations in a money that is only a little part of it. For a $1bn target, it means 200M$ more just because you count it that way. It has nothing to do with inflation. So if you add a 15% inflation for instance, there may well be a dozen of billionnaire movies per year at that time with these conditions (also, experts say that in ten years China will be a bigger market than for the US !), and then a Bond movie will "just" have to be in the top 12 to be part of it.
But it won't mean movies as a whole are more and more successful...

Note that if on the other hand, the $ inverts the trend and goes back to its value 10 years ago, you may have lots of trouble to have billonnaire movies again (even with inflation and China...), and not just Bond. But it wont mean movies are less and less succesful. I'm curious to know what PR will invent then !

I realised he was probably American. Just a little anglo-American banter!
